Massacre of Christian Brothers (Feb 12, 1945)
So the first part of the video talked about the massacre of the Christian Brothers within the walls of the chapel and it happened on Feb 12, 1945.
Still talked about until today are the brutal killings of 16 Christian Brothers and refugees at De La Salle College, with 70 refugees, women and young girls (attempted to rape some of the dying women), children Some shot and others bayoneted (they were then subsequently shot, slashed or bayoneted. Those who did not die in the attack were left to bleed to death) | | |
The chapel was then set on fire but it was not destroyed because it was built of marble and concrete. Only 10 people survived including one De La Salle Brother
This is a statement from Jack Percival (war correspondent)
Estimates that a total of 82 priests and brothers were killed during the battle
BOMBING:
SECOND part of the video talked about the bombing of Intramuros and there were 7 churches in Intramuros alone.
Also known as walled city, much of Intramuros was damaged by bombings from both Japanese who occupied it and used it as their headquarters and prison and by U.S. forces who besieged the Japanese.
It was also the bastion of strong Christian Faith. There used to stand, within the walls of Intramuros, seven houses of God, all built with architectural magnificence.
At the end of World War II, virtually all of the structures in Intramuros were destroyed, with only the damaged Church of San Agustin still standing.
AFTERMATH:
What happened after the war was that our government focused on building new establishments over the rubble of the past glorious city
The catholic churches suffered great property losses (125 million dollars) value at that time
The other five no longer exist within the walls of Intramuros, the San Ignacio Church was left in ruins until now and the other 4 have new establishments built on their site 1. Manila Cathedral (rebuilt from 1953-1958). February 19, 1945 had 40 priests. “The Japanese then lobbed hand grenades in through the air holes“ 2. San Agustin Church - The church was spared from the bombings because it's bell tower was marked with a Red Cross (in times of war, attacking any building/establishment/vehicle that carries an emblem of Red Cross is a great war crime) 3. San Ignacio Church - it was greatly destroyed during the war and was left in ruins to date. San Ignacio’s facade was the only one spared from demolition after the Japs were rooted out. All the rest were brought down for clearing! 4. Lourdes Church - The war also destroyed the church in 1945, forcing the Capuchins to move to its current location in Retiro, Quezon City. 5. Recoletos Church – The church that was famous for its four-story bell tower and its magnificent interior. Manilla Bulletin now occupies the site. 6. San Francisco Church - It remained in ruins after its destruction during the war. Mapua Institute of Technology rose from its rubble. 7. Santo Domingo Church - When the Japs burned down the church in 1941, the Dominicans moved to its current site in Quezon City. The site is now occupied by the Bank of the Philippines Islands. ...Lance Voorhees January 16, 2012 Problem/Solution Essay Underage Drinking Underage drinking has been a growing problem in today’s youth. Nowadays teens and young adults are influenced by alcohol everyday. Whether it is by friends, advertisements, celebrities, or even family. Alcohol abuse amongst minors, needs to be abolished. To help end this growing problem, classes taught on drugs and alcohol, in all schools, should be required. Along with simply teaching minors, in school, the health issues and dangers of alcohol abuse, parents need to do a better job of knowing what their teens are doing. Communication, not only between parents and their children, but also between siblings and friends, has a great impact on the decisions they will make. When it comes to peer pressure, minors must realize what is best for their safety and choose wisely who their friends are. Required classes, strictly on the use of drugs and alcohol, taught in schools, would have an enormous impact on teens. With it being a required course, students would have no choice but to attend. Not only would they be learning the health issues of these substances, they would be being tested and graded on their knowledge of the subjects. This would force teens to listen to and take into consideration, the risk of substance abuse. Being in the classroom and learning with other people of the same age group could help students create positive, drug and alcohol free, friendships. Having friends who have the same......

...Reflective Essay One: My Leadership Manifesto What type of leader am I? I’m not a very good leader right now. I usually try to avoid the spotlight when possible. There are times when I am the lead tech on shift though. I try to lead by example. I don’t like to just sit around when there are jets to be fixed. I like to take initiative to figure out a plan for us to complete our work on time. What type of leadership style do I use? The transactional leadership style is probably the one that I use the most. I don’t like micromanaging at all though. I hate when leadership comes and checks on you every 5 minutes. Just let me get my work done without distractions. I would love to be a transformational leader but I just don’t have the dedication and work ethic to become one at this moment in my life. I just like to focus on the task at hand. I come into work and find out what needs to get done. Then I prioritize it all and get everything accomplished as efficiently and timeliness as I can. What type of NCO am I (want to be)? I want to be in expert in my AFSC and be someone my fellow airman can look up to. Someone that they can come to with any problem without fear of reprisal. I want my subordinates to follow what I say because they want to and not because they have to. I also want to be able to stick up for my fellow airman when they need it. I don’t like NCO’s that just care about their own careers and throw others under the bus. What are my strengths? It’s......

It’s a question that always lingers on my minds. “I will tell you just how it was. My father and mother were dead. My little brothers and sisters were hungry and asked me for bread. At First I earned the bread by working hard all day. But somehow the times were hard and the work fell away. I could get no more work.” “That night the weather was bitter cold and my little brothers and sisters were crying, shivering and craving for food. My brother and I hurriedly rushed and asked a piece of bread from the saleslady but she pushed me, scolded me for I am nothing but jerk. So, I got a piece of bread and we ran away but….Bang! The gun went off and my brother fell dead. “Dino, no…., dino don’t die…. Here’s a piece of bread… I got it for you and our sisters…..
