1. What is the song’s title and artist?
The name of the song is BBQ Stain by Tim McGraw.

2. What emotional mental responses did you have to the song the first time you listened to it? Why do you think you had this response?
Initially, my response was “Uh-oh. Corny alert. Change station”. If I were to pin point why I had that response, I would probably say it’s the voice of all country singers.

3. While listening to the song, what happened to your appreciation level? Did it increase or decrease? Why?
On some levels my appreciation has gone up due to the fact that I am listening to genuine music. What I mean about genuine music is that these apparently sing about everything and anything that goes through their mind.

4. In your opinion, what was the message (theme) of the song?
If they really must know, the message is about getting a barbeque stain on his white T-shirt.

5. What about the song that most surprised you? The lyrics? The actual music? Your like or dislike of the song? The artists voice?
When I first heard this song, I thought, “Wow! Country has run out of ideas.” But of all things that surprised me it was the fact that this song became really famous, and made number one.

6. If you HAD to say that you gained or learned one positive thing from this song, what would that be?
Country singers, no matter what song they sing about, sing real songs from their heart.

7. From memory, list at least two, statements, comments, or quotes from the song.
“Barbeque Stain on my white t-shirt.” And “I said a heart don't forget somethin' like that
Oh like somethin' like that.”

Now using the following ESSENTIAL CORNERSTONES from page 8 of Chapter 1, consider how becoming a more effective listener can help you with each.

A. By enhancing my listening skills, I can become more open-minded by:
Listening to everything at least once. I may not like the content, but I might learn something new. B. By enhancing my listening skills, I can become more creative by:
Anticipating new and emerging issues by figuring out all their possible solutions.

C. By enhancing my listening skills, I can become more knowledgeable by:
Taking in information from various professionals to make into your own. D. By enhancing my listening skill, I can increase my resourcefulness level by:
Becoming an opportunist; I would be able to visualize, incorporate, and apply new ways of solving problems.…...

...A Journal Entry: Trail of Tears A Journal Entry: Trail of Tears Summer 1838 It has just been announced that to us that there are some among us that have signed a treaty selling away our lands from out from under us with President Jackson. I do not understand why our own people would do such a thing. We have been told that if we do not leave, General Scott will come and force us off our lands. (Schultz, 2012) My husband says that it is only because gold was discovered here that the white man is pushing us away. Though he does not wish, my husband says we must go before the general gets here. Fall 1838 We did not leave when my husband wanted us to go. My sister came to visit us and begged me to come back home and stay with her. She said that even my husband could come, but when we arrived at her large home, my father was there, and he told us that we could not enter and that he only had one daughter. I wanted to cry. My husband, bowed to my father slightly and we left, but before we got too far away, my sister called me back. She was crying as she gave me an old family heirloom that was supposed to have come to me on the day I turned 21. She begged me to leave my husband and those of the Cherokee people and come home to our family, but what she did not understand was that these people had become my people. I could never leave my husband as she wished of me. I loved him far too much. We stayed on in the home land of the Cherokee. But then......

...A. Journal Entries When the first time I entered L’Cokelat Day Spa, the employees greeted me politely with a big smile. Even though the place is not so big, but I felt a good environment there. The place is simply decorated, but the simplicity makes me comfortable in there plus the hospitality of the employees which makes me happy coming to L’Cokelat Day Spa. It was 12.30 pm, so there was no other customer there associated with the lunch time and the weekdays. Besides, I smelled a good flavor of chocolate which makes my body and mind relaxed since I entered. No need to wait for a long time, the receptionist directly showed me the menu of the variety of services. But, I disappointed with the menu, because the menu did not look good and well designed, it was just a printed menu on a white paper covered with a thick cover. Fortunately, the receptionist was able to explain about the services. She offered me lot of varieties completely. They have local and imported products. Since it was my first time, I could not decide which service suited my needs well. Luckily, the receptionist asked my need and took initiative to ask me to try the sample of the product which enabled me to smell and try on the product on my skin. I felt so happy and satisfied with the sample, because directly after tested it, I could choose which the best product and service is for me. In that visit, I chose “Tropical Salt Mousse Papine” in order to satisfied my need to get the complete package of spa with......

...Journal Entry II BSHS 401 October 14 2013 Darla Roberts Journal Entry II October 14, 2013 After reviewing the second community resource in my city I have stumbled across one similar resource but they service different illnesses. (ACR) which stands for access care and resources for health is a non-profiting organization that focuses on the prevention of the spreading of HIV/AIDS while providing supporting services that focus on education of the illness. The organization usually services families that may have a member that is trying to deal with the illness that they have; the organization helps people not feel so bad about it and allow them to understand that it is not the end of the world. The goal of this community resource is to prevent the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases, provide support to people and families that are living with someone that may have the virus, and lastly to promote the understanding of the how people catch this illness and ways that it could be prevented. Normally an organization such as this one is heard about through word of mouth or recommended to by a social worker. Considering the fact that this organization is a non-profiting one, the client does not have to worry about prices which makes it much easier to help those that need it. Special care is given to those that are already infected with the virus. I think that I would recommend this organization to people because if there was a better awareness of what......

...October 1846 Dear Journal, Today is another day that we have gone without our potato crops growing. I do not understand what is going on. We have a huge farm land in the outskirts of Dublin and we are doing everything right but the crops will not grow or they will grow and will then wither which at that point, we are unable to eat them. My family is starving and we are loosing weight at a rapid rate. I do not know how much longer I am going to be able to deal with this. I have taken the time out every night to make sure that I pray but it seems as though my wishes have not been answered. I have been speaking with some of the other farmers in the area and we all agree that maybe it would be time to pick up and leave the area and we were all thinking about going to the United States. My hopes, by leaving, is that I will be able to make a better life for my family and I will be able to feed my family without relying on my crops, that obviously do not want to grow. November 5, 1846 I spoke with my fellow farmers and we have all agreed that this is now the time that we must move on and immigrate to the United States. I heard that there will be a ship that will leave in a few days and I must get my family on the ship. I know that this will be the best for all of us in order to survive because these potato crops are just not growing like they use to. I need to inform my family to pack what we have, but make sure that it is only the essentials because I do not want to be......

...Ashley Kresge BUS310- Human Resource Management Week 4 Paper Extra Credit- Week 2 10/19/2014 Week 2: Post to the journal in week 2 the organization you have selected to write your week 4 paper on and its mission statement. Tell me how you will explore their HR’s role in supporting this mission. Provide at least one research source. This is due during week 2, no later than Monday, October 20 9 am Eastern time. The company that I have selected as the topic for my week 4 paper is Dun and Bradstreet. This company has been in business since the mid-1800’s. It has survived the test of time and through adaptability remains a leader in the data industry. Dun and Bradstreet’s mission statement is to be “The Most Trusted Source of Global Business Insight”. I plan on exploring how Dun and Bradstreet’s HR department supports their mission by delving into the functions of the HR group, what development opportunities/programs are made available to employees, and how HR helps drive business success. I hope to identify what strategies HR is taking to drive the business towards success. The company named a new CPO in February (CEO, 2014) who has an extensive HR background. I also plan on exploring how this new business leader is driving change and success in relation to the company’s mission. Research sources: CEO & Direct Reports. (2014). ...Journal Entry HIS/110 The Spanish migration to North America was an interesting topic in this week that piqued my interest. Learning more about this topic in the second chapter of US History through 1877 was a good starting point to keep my attention because it is something that I have been fascinated with beforehand. I used the artwork from this chapter because it is beautiful and seems to tell an excellent story of migration and the survival skills that were needed in this day in age. I researched more about the Spanish conquistador and was able to read on "Came Men on Horses: The Conquistador Expeditions of Francisco Vazquez de Coronado and Don Juan de Onate". This book speaks of any myths that may have been written or spoken of about the way the conquest of America. The Spanish was the first Europeans to enter the America Southwest. Stories about the city of Gold is what lured in a lot of people in hopes of riches. The conquistadors were fighting the decision to search for the city of gold or not. They did not want to have the burden on their shoulders of not attempting to search for it, and someone else find it if it deemed to be true. There were seven cities that were expected to contain gold for the conquistadors to search out. The conquistadors depended on navigation when it came to their needs of survival. This would be of great service to them when it comes to finding their way to their destination...

...Dec 10, 1907 Dear Journal, It has been awhile since I have had the time to sit down, and write much with all that has been going on. A little over a month ago now I left my home in Greece in hopes of a better life. So many men came to our village with stories of the riches of America. I decided to make plans to come here to America myself. The idea of spending a 3 year stint in the military which was mandatory for me just did not seem right for me. Life in the old country has been really hard over the years. Mama and Papa have struggled greatly trying to farm the land which largely is just rocky in the mountain sides. I wanted to help them. I wanted to come here in order to make a great deal of money to take home, and purchase our family a better land with a larger home. Being only 16 I had no idea how hard this idea would become. The path here seemed to take forever. The ship I ended up on was so cramped with people. The only fare I could afford purchased me the lowest fare ticket. I spent 2 weeks within the belly of this ship. The narrow packed beds barely gave me a decent sleep. There was so much sickness around me. The smell of throw up seemed to constantly linger in the air. There was little to no food at times on the boat for us in the lower class. I tried to spend as much time as I could on the upper deck, however, the often storms made this impossible much of the time. I was thankful I had remembered to bring my worry beads. Twirling them around my......

...Tajae Gibbs Liane Tanguay English Composition 14 May 2015 Journal Entries Journal Entry #1: Should we rule society through strict displanarian order or let people organize themselves? I believe it should be through strict displanarian order. Why? Well in my opinion we need order. We need to be told what is supposed to be done and how. Another reason is because the society right now is not in order. If we was to let people organize themselves… well it would be a mess. People would be doing the complete opposite because they feel that they do not need the order. Without displanarian order this world would not be the same. I believe right now the rate for students going to college is high. If there was not displanarian order then probably a lot of kids would have dropped out of school or not even gone to school at all. I felt maybe this was my best work because I got to give my opinion on what I think about displanarian order. I got to talk about what could happen and what might not happen if displanarian order was not a choice. I had thought a lot about the question when it was given in class. ...At 8:30 a.m., all of the students begin filing into the classroom. They proceed to do their regularly scheduled activities of putting away their coats, backpacks, and then checking in. Unlike last week, all seems to go well in the morning. I notice that some of the students don’t check in right away and the attendance taker reminds them to check-in. When a few of the students still don’t check-in, the attendance taker consults with Mrs. Sinatro on what to do. Mrs. Sinatro informs the student that she should just mark the students absent. This decision left me feeling really uncomfortable. Whenever a student is marked absent, it is noted in their “permanent record.” I don’t think it is fair to penalize a student so much just for not following directions. There has to be a milder way to do it. You might think about how long students have had this policy in place and if they should be responsible for doing this on their own. I tend to think like you, but students do need to develop responsibility. I’m sure the teacher doesn’t want to have parents commenting on absences that were not absences. At 8.40 a.m., the students head to Success Makers in the library (see description above). During this time, Mrs. Sinatro and I take the time to correct homework from the previous night. I am happy to be included in doing this task, even if it is small, because I know that it is something that will have to be done when I am a certified teacher. At 9:00 a.m., the students return to the......

...mother sitting at the foot of my bed. “Your father had a heart attack, he didn’t make it,” she said. My father was 47 years old and I was only twelve. My father and I were inseparable.  He took me to school in the morning, picked me up, took me to work with him, and was the head coach of my baseball team. On that gloomy morning, I knew my life was going to change forever. Since that day I have went through so much hardship and made decisions that define who I am today. The night before, I had been pestering my dad to play Sonic Pinball with me. We were both very competitive and loved playing that video game. I was annoyed because my Dad didn’t want to play that night. Looking back, I could imagine that my father wasn’t feeling well. A week earlier, he had a heart attack and stayed overnight in the hospital. My father often fell asleep on the couch, would wake up in the middle of the night, and then come into the bedroom to go back to sleep. That night, I had fallen asleep in my mother’s bed. My dad woke me up and sent me to sleep in my room. It was the last time I would see him alive. After being told the most shocking news of my life, I didn’t know how to react. I was only twelve years old and had never experienced such a loss. My mother waited for me to say something. “Who’s downstairs?” I asked, in a nonchalant tone. My Uncle Mike was downstairs. I peeked out the window and saw fire trucks, police cars, and all of my neighbors on the street, looking......

...Journal Entry Jennifer Augustus ETH/125 July 17, 2011 April Dreeke Journal Entry It's been three days of rain now, with no end in sight. Sometimes I wonder if this whole island might one day be underwater from all the rain. My friend Irini says that the ocean swallows the water, and the island could never be covered. I listen, but I'm not sure even she believes everything she says. My name is Suri Songhai, and I live in Hawaii, the year is 1922. I came to Hawaii because my family enlisted a nakodo’s (go-between) on my behalf in my homeland of Korea, to find me a husband to take care of me. Many Korean men have been leaving our poor area outside of Okinawa to find more lucrative work. There have been quite a few who leave with the intent of working in Hawaii and building a beautiful home and having a family. There were many stories at the time of how well Korean mother's sons were doing in Hawaii, many pictures of homes, properties, beautiful beaches, gardens and animals. Additionally, a monthly check is sent from the sons to support their families back home in Korea. Many hundreds of young men have left Korea to work in the sugar cane fields in Hawaii. Families never know of the hardship their son's suffer, as the son's would never say; it would do no good to have their families worried or afraid for them. So they put on a happy face for all of the pictures, and sent as much money as they can without starving. Mothers of daughters saw these things and wanted their......
