B. Mission Statement: Through communication and mutual respect, we strive to produce above standard academic work.

C. Vision Statement: We will produce an effective, well- developed team work plan that can be used and understood by every member of the team.

D. Shared Values: The following shared values will support open and honest communication, accountability, mutual respect, and ethical decision-making. • Accountability: To willfully accept tasks, roles and responsibilities, set expectations accordingly, and produce deliverables in agreed upon time. • Honesty- To communicate openly with all team members, professors, classmates, and to adhere to the UMUC policy on plagiarism. • Mutual respect: To acknowledge and embrace each others' individuality, values, opinions, and perspectives. • Communication: To respectfully and tactfully express, inform, question, etc. the way(s) in which one thinks, feels, or believes with the goal of accomplishing the tasks set before the team.

Systematic documentation: We will work to document any and all work completed by its team members. This will ensure all work can be accounted for. This will also hold team members accountable for their assigned portions of projects. Furthermore by documenting all work, individual team members can ensure there will be no disputes about team contributions.

Regular communication: Regular contributions will help team members stay up to date about their team member’s progress on the projects. We will strive to send weekly updates about the progress of their tasks to ensure all tasks will be turned in by their respective due dates.

Professionalism: We will continually strive for excellence. By doing this each member will be responsible for their work, and continually improve it.

Positive Team Feedback: It is important for team members to remain positive at all times. They will work to give positive feedback even when critiquing other team members’ work. By doing this they will ensure all members remain motivated for the entirety of the course.

Positive Team Environment: Each team member will have mutual trust, honesty, encouragement, and respect for each other’s ideas, needs and limitations. Team members will communicate on a regular basis and notify team members if they cannot meet assigned deadlines.

E. Desirable team behaviors and consequences for non-compliance

• Meeting assigned deadlines: Each team member is expected to participate fully with other team members by contributing and submitting assignments in a timely manner. • Respect: Each team member is expected to treat other team members with respect • Punctuality: Each team member will participate in conferences and arrive on time to ensure the maximum amount of interaction amongst the team • Research skills – Each team member shall supply complete references and citations when submitting research to the group. Having to go back and search for references is a waste of valuable time and resources. • Meeting assigned or volunteered deadlines – Out of respect for other team members, get your assignments completed on time. If you will be late, let everyone know. Team members will be honest when setting deadlines and are expected to adhere to the deadline they choose. • Communication – follow the guidelines for team communications that we all agree upon: Team meetings will occur on Sunday at 9 p.m. EST (8 p.m. CST) on Google chat. We will discuss that week’s upcoming assignment and address any issues. Not all team members have regular access to e-mail. Team members will communicate through the conference area of the study group. Team members will submit all documents to the collaborative docs section of the study group. All communications through email shall be copied into the collaborative documents folder. This includes transcripts from chat room discussions to ensure complete transparency and information dissemination to the group. The team members are to provide feedback, revisions, and agreements within 24 hours after assigned drafts and final drafts are submitted either to the Study Group or disseminated through e-mail.

The team's final assignment will be submitted by the team's coordinator (or his/ her backup) after each member or the majority (which is 3 out of 4) agrees to move forward with the final draft of the assignment and no later than 10:30 pm EST. In the event the team is 24 hours away from submitting the final assignment, which would be any Monday, 11pm EST (or otherwise noted by Professor Newman) and there are only two members available to make a decision, the team will agree that the two members will have the authority to make the final decision.

F. Summary of individual member strengths and weaknesses (self-assessed)

|Members |Strength |Opportunity |
|Monet Green |Graphics, creativity, presentation, and data |Family and career constraints. Limited available schedule. |

|Serena Wales |Research, writing, and editing. |Mathematical problems. |
| | | |

(*Honest self –assessment is important. You will want to use this information to help you distribute the work in a way that leverages your individual and team advantages.)

G. Team conflict management plan Should any conflict arises within the team, each member is to be made aware of the issue and suggest resolutions. Each team member will agree on a said plan to resolve the issue and move forward in an amicable and respectful fashion. In the event the team is not able to resolve the issue, an email will be sent to the professor and the faculty assistant for mediation and resolution. Any e-mails or messages that need to be elevated to the professor/faculty assistance will be approved by the majority of the team first. Any issues should be resolved within four days in order to efficiently and effectively accomplish team assignments.

I. Encouragement of Teamwork To foster teamwork, the team will meet regularly via conference chat room to discuss all issues related to the project. Also, be aware that messages can/will be sent through email which means that each person on the team will need to check their e-mail on a regular basis. This will help the team identify if any problems exist or if an individual team member is struggling with his or her portion of the work. Once identified, a plan of action can be agreed upon to rectify the issue.

II. Team Work Plan

The team projects in this seminar require us to work together throughout the semester. It is important for everyone to know that one of the most significant factors in effective team performance is effective time management. To achieve this goal, each person on the team will have specific tasks for which they will be responsible. Each team member will adhere to any given timelines for their portion of the projects. Each member will complete drafts of their work sufficiently in advance of the due dates to allow editing to produce a cohesive quality document written in a single voice.)
The team work plan helps team members to more effectively plan their time and avoids unnecessary duplication of effort. In addition, if everyone knows what they have to do, what they can expect from others, and when they must deliver their contributions or can expect to receive the contributions of another team members, the possibility of a conflict over who should have done what and when can be minimized.
Work plans are to be posted in the study group's conference. Faculty expects each member to make a meaningful contribution to the weekly assignments and to follow the process outlined in the work plan. All of the contributions of each study group member to the assignments must be posted in the study group's conference. Usually all the team members receive the same grade for the team project, however, a team member’s grade may be reduced if the individual did not contribute in a meaningful way to the team assignment. This determination will be made by evaluating the member's individual contributions posted in the study group conference and comparing them to the work plan.

...Assignment: Climate Change Proposal SCI/245 Axia College University of Phoenix June 17, 2012 Will Romine Assignment: Climate Change Proposal June 17, 2012 Dear Senator Lugar, I know you are a very busy man and I also understand that this is your last year as a senator for this wonderful state of Indiana. Therefore I believe that it is you that can help make a change in the senate. You would be speaking for everyone around the world who will be affected by global climate change. I do not pretend to be an environmentalist but I do know that global warming is real. The current warming trend is of particular significance because most of it is very likely human-induced and proceeding at a rate that is unprecedented in the past 1,300 years. In recent years there have been more and more devastating storms, many of magnitudes not seen in many areas. The climate is changing and we need to do what we can now to either slow that change down or stop it altogether. Glaciers are melting at an alarming rate. The Himalayas are sometimes called the world's "third pole" because they are covered with thousands of glaciers. Water from those glaciers helps feed some of the world's most important rivers, including the Ganges and the Indus. As those glaciers melt, they will contribute to rising sea levels. Nepal alone has more than 2,300 glacial lakes, and experts say at least 20 are in danger of bursting. Glaciers are not the only thing in danger of melting, if the ice cap of......

College vs University

...College vs. University When choosing to go to a college or university the decisions you make are critical to your learning, knowledge, career and income. The tradeoffs you make in this process are incredible, when making the important decision whether to choose a college career tract over a university directed career. Both academic institutions require high grades from applying students as competition is high to get into them and location, financial requirements, and specialization also become key factors in a students decision as well. First, the location of the school a student chooses , has a large opportunity cost. Going to school away from home you must live in residence, which cost more money. This may cause you to have to take a large loan, find a summer job that pays substantially, or take a year off in between high school and post secondary in order to afford this. Whereas if you were living at home and going to school you would not have these expenses. Tuition would be the main expense. Local colleges are more popular because of this as Universities are not in every city. The cost to go to University usually involves relocation for most students unless lucky enough to live in a city that has the University close by. Rural students especially are left with relocating as their only option. Not having the financial funds may make the University option out of reach for lower income families and their kids. Secondly, in the high school attending......

Best College or University

...Best College or University for African American Students Brittany Jones Business Research Methods Dr. Beckles December 4, 2009 Table of Contents Abstract 3 Introduction 4 Literature Review 5 Methodology 6 Conclusion 7 Limitations 7 Recommendations 8 References 9 Appendix 10   Abstract For many African Americans the idea of attending college is usually a dream, unless he/she plays a sport. Now it is much easier for high school graduates to attend college and it is no longer just limited to those who play sports. A lot of those students are first generation college students. While it is important to attend college a lot of African American students do not finish college. So when choosing a university or college it is very valuable to know the retention and attrition rate of that particular institution. This paper will discuss the importance of attending college in the African American community, the factors that contribute to the decision of what college to attend and the role diversity plays in that decision. Introduction Attending College is an observable, positive trend in the African-American community. The decision to attend college results in several important choices for future students, such as deciding which type of college to attend. There are approximately 1,800 four year colleges nationally. Community College vs. University

...Community College vs. University Graduating from high school brings many changes to one's life. Students are faced with the decision of going to a university or staying home and attending a community college. While both can be a similarly great experience, there are also many differences between the two. The main difference however, is that a community college grants 2 year degrees and a university grants 4 year degrees. Many people think that community college is only for those who can’t get into a university, but that is not true. Community college is a much more affordable way to start an education. In fact, the current price of a state four-year university is nearly triple that of a community college. Not only do students who attend universities have to pay for classes, they also have housing and food to worry about. Students who attend community college can simply live at home and not have to fear the extra expenses. If a student does decide they want a four year degree, starting off at a community college and then transferring to a university is much cheaper than entering a university right out of high school. It is much easier to get into a community college right after high school versus having to wait to be accepted by a university. There are also many things universities look at that community colleges do not, such as standardized test scores, class rank, and academic GPA. Community college is also more convenient than a university. These schools are......

Reporting Options Available to Government Colleges and Universities

...What are the main reporting options available to government colleges and universities? Do they have to prepare fund statements? Explain. Universities are permitted to prepare financial statements the same way corporations report special purpose entities. In other words they can report business type enterprises as SPI’s and not report the funds in fund statements. Public colleges and university must follow GASB pronouncements like other governmental institutions. They are allowed to follow the same reporting requirements as other special-purpose governments with a loophole that requires a choice in reporting. They can report as a special-purpose entity engaging in business-type activities only, governmental-type activities only, or both. The main sources of revenue for public institutions are state appropriations and grants.  The AICPA reporting model is widely used.  Public colleges and universities must use the same FASB standards as other NFP entities. Governmental universities use the GASB statement no 34 to report business type activities. They use government-wide statements but do not use fund statements. They use a full accrual basis and report in consolidated financial statements. The government colleges and universities only engaged in governmental activities must present a fund statement using the structure specified in GASB statement #34. The main reporting options for government colleges and universities according to statement no. 34 states that “a......

...new universities in developing provinces of Turkey. This is a response to pressure coming from local MPs who in turn voice the demands of their constituencies. However, while the already existing 85 universities are wrestling with financial and academic difficulties, it does not seem to be a good idea to add new universities to the system of higher education. First of all, the new universities will experience staffing problems. That is, they will have difficulty finding faculty that is qualified to teach in these budding universities. In our country the number of academicians who meet the academic requirements is limited. New universities will have two choices: either to draw from the existing pool or to employ under qualified people. To attract those instructors from other universities they will have to offer attractive incentives . However, since these will be state universities they will not have the necessary funds and most academics will be unwilling to go to small town universities where academic and life standards are below par. The only venue open to these universities will be to employ local professionals or under qualified instructors. The inevitable result will follow: a drop in the quality of education. In addition to recruitment problems, small town universities will have financial difficulties. The funds allocated to them by the state will not be enough to build from scratch all the facilities that make a university a "real university". A university is......

..."I am a student at the University of Kansas studying English and American Studies, and this may be a bit unorthodox, but I wanted to say that your book Writing Essays About Literature was one of the best books I have ever read in the world of academia! I am taking a Critical Theory class, and we were assigned only the first 55 pages, but I really could not put the book down. Your writing is magnificent, and I am constantly referring to the book when writing papers. You have done a brilliant job making essay-writing easy, structured, and actually enjoyable!" - Lauren Gaylor, University of Kansas "Katherine O. Acheson's Writing Essays About Literature is a concise, fully portable and very well-priced guide that gets it right. Acheson's emphasis on inductive reasoning is wonderfully refreshing. It really helps English professors persuade their students to argue from the specific to the general, to found their arguments on the details of evidence and on the careful—and affectively sensitive—analysis of that evidence. And the very best thing about this book is that Acheson's casual and unassuming prose style makes students want to read it. And they do. And then they bring it to class!" - Glenn Clark, University of Manitoba "For those of us interested in teaching writing through literature, Katherine O. Acheson's guide is an indispensable companion, teaching students that writing is more about process and less about imagined giftedness. The book begins by teaching students how...

UCT was the first University in Africa to set up a course to produce qualified actuaries. The old adage that success breeds success is clearly appropriate. Our strong past record of success at producing qualified actuaries has allowed the department to attract the best students and staff with relevant professional qualifications and experience. UCT has produced more qualified actuaries than any other university in Africa and our analysis of performance in the professional examinations indicates that our graduates are more likely to qualify than those from other courses in South Africa.
