...create their own that they will follow. The five values that I chose were trust, happiness, independence, love/affection, and achievement/ success. After analyzing and trying to decide on one value that means the most to me, I realized that four of the values I chose all play an intricate roll in one value. My achievement and success in my life is very important to me. Without having achievements or accomplishing something that I have set out to do, I would be an extremely miserable and lost soul. I believe everyone was put on this earth to achieve or accomplish something. It is up to the individual whether they are successful. While reflecting on previous years in my life, I noticed that trust, happiness, independence and love/affection have almost deterred my courage to achieve and succeed in certain situations. Trust is the very thing that everybody in this world desires, or at least should desire from one another. Trust is the reason a husband does not question his wife’s whereabouts, because he believes her faithfulness. Trust is the reason a boss does not check behind the work of his employees, because he knows that they will do it to his standards. I believe that trust is faith. When I say that I am placing my faith in somebody, I trust them. Whenever I die, it is one thing that I want to be remembered for. That as a woman, I maintained people’s trust in me. When there is trust in any type of relationship, the parties involved are able to let their......

Libyan Arab Foreign Bank vs. Bankers Trust Company

...Case: Libyan Arab Foreign Bank vs. Bankers Trust Company Queen’s Bench Division, Commercial Court Facts: US President Ronald Reagan places a Presidential order to freeze money that was deposited in the Bankers Trust Company. The Libyan Arab Foreign Bank sought to recover the funds. Procedure: Queen’s Bench Division, Commercial Court Issue: Can the Bankers Trust Company pay the Libyan Arab Foreign Bank the money that was withheld due to the freeze President Reagan put on the money in 1986? Can one government block assets held by bank branches in another country? Holding: (Vote: 1-0) Yes, however this puts the Bankers Trust Company in a conundrum because although British law requires them to pay back the Libyan Arab Foreign Bank, they will violate the US Presidential order (Bennett, 1987). Reasoning: (Staughton, J.) A. Rule: The London court rules in favor of the Libyan Arab Foreign Bank in the amount of $292 million, which the Bankers Trust Company has to pay. The money was frozen be US Presidential order in 1986. B. Application: The London courts ruled the money belonged to the Libyan Arab Foreign Bank and had to be refunded. The London courts ruled the money belonged to the Libyan Arab Foreign Bank and that the agreement under which the money was deposited entitled them to receive the deposit bank and the Bankers Trust Company would be held accountable for not refunding the money. This conflict is complex due to the nature of the rulings given by......

...The main role of a unit trust consultant would be distributing unit trust or mutual funds on behalf of a unit trust managemen company/ bank to the public. By explaining and analysing each and every fund that are distributed, unit trust consultant aid their clients in giving their best bets on their investments. In reality, a unit trust consultant is helping their clients in achieving financial independence at earlier age. And these need to start from educating them how important a financial plan is. Many people do not sense the urge of having a financial plan till they face financial difficulties. Therefore most of the governments “force” their citizens to build up their personal retirement fund which is mostly directly deducted from their pay/wages. For example, in Malaysia, every employees and employers ought to contribute to Employee Provident Fund (EPF). People can only withdraw the money when they reach the age of 55. However, 70% of the contributors spent all their EPF money after 3 years from their retirement, which seems do not serve the main purpose of setting up EPF. Thus in this case, unit trust consultant comes in and serve a role. There are many ways or types of investment which we can use to build up retirement fund. Long term investment in unit trust would be one of the most efficient way to build up a fund and at the same time offer a handsome return. There are 2 rules to follow in investing for unit trust: First, mid to long term investment. Second,...

...   A/B Trusts An A/B Trust is any type of trust that splits into two separate and distinct trusts upon the death of the grantor. One of the separate and distinct trusts is a Credit Shelter Trust, which is designed to hold as much of the grantor's property as is sheltered from the federal estate tax by virtue of the unified credit; i.e., $2,000,000 for decedent's dying in years 2006, 2007, and 2008, and $3,500,000 for decedent's dying in the year 2009. The other separate and distinct trust is a Marital Trust, which is designed to hold the remainder of the decedent's property, which is sheltered from the federal estate tax by virtue of the unlimited marital deduction. These separate and distinct trusts are designed to eliminate or reduce the federal estate tax liability of a married couple over the deaths of both spouses. An A/B Trust arrangement can be created under a living trust or a testamentary trust, since these provisions do not take effect until after the grantor's death. ...MARKET EFFICIENCY AND THE PERSISTENCE OF UNIT TRUST PERFORMANCE IN MALAYSIA CHAPTER 1 1.1 Introduction According to M.Rhodes, Research paper no. 2002 -2006, their offerings on the price many choose to highlight their past performance, implicitly as an indicator of future returns. The existence of persistence in performance is indicative of market Inefficiencies which some, but not all, fund managers are able to exploit. In an extension to the current literature the paper tests the proposition that changes to infrastructure, insomuch as they might affect market efficiency, affect the persistence of performance. Evidence is also presented on whether excess returns are the result of better skill or information for some managers or the existence of a momentum effect in stock returns. When picking a fund an investor faces a bewildering yet important choice from amongst several hundred product offerings and there is a considerable degree of price dispersion. Studies of Malaysia funds have relied on the assumption that conditions determining market efficiency, or the ability of fund managers to exploit inefficiencies, do not change significantly during the period examined. According to this research paper (2002-6), the unit trust industry in Malaysia can be considered relatively young. The first unit trust, Malaysia Investment Fund was launched in Dec. 2, 1966 by Asia Unit Trusts Be&ad. However, the industry can be expected to take off in the years ahead in light of......

Has Banking Deregulation Contributed to the Current Economic Crisis and If so How? Can Advertising (or) Marketing (or) Public Relations Help Restore Trust in the Banks?

...(or) public relations help restore trust in the banks? Most of the world has been affected by what has been called the global recession. Banking deregulation is undeniably the main cause of the financial crisis. This essay is going to demonstrate why this is by covering key events, which have lead to the crisis, and highlighting some possible marketing solutions to the trust issue that has resulted from it. The Great Depression in the 1930s provoked the US government to introduce new regulations in order to reform banks and ensure that there would never be another crisis of its type again. These reforms came under the name of the banking act of 1933, commonly referred to as the Glass-Steagle act. Crucially most of the new laws meant that retail and investment banks were to be kept separate and investments could not be made if a return was unlikely. However, over 50 years later these laws became more relaxed as the banks were always pushing to be privatized, as they knew they would be able to make more money (Robert Weissman, 2009). It was then believed that the financial world had changed so much since the Great Depression that the regulatory rules were outdated and that the banks would be able to manage themselves, the decision was also influenced by $300 million of lobbying (PBS, 2003). The Glass-Steagle act was revoked in 1999 by president Clinton, this removed the separation that existed between Wall Street retail banks and investment banks and meant there was a......

...and lenders are better off than they would have been without financial institutions and market intermediaries. Thus, these financial institutions, such as banks, have a positive role in financing and investment which is a multidimensional process involving the complexity of many interrelated and interdependent factors of diversified nature. It is difficult to assess the contribution of each factor independently. The key to successful banking lays in the ability of balance many activities simultaneously. The bank must maintain a healthy growth rate, while at the same time it must take action to minimize the risks it faces. The bank must also maintain enough cash on hand to meet obligations. All of these are related to sound performance of a bank. Evaluating Bank Performance, examines the basic risk and return features of commercial banks. The financial performance evaluation demonstrates the strengths and weaknesses of bank performance over time. The Trust Bank Ltd. has a responsibility to ensure efficient and effective banking operation in a sound manner. The study will look at the amount of liquidity that TBL has available to meet any reasonable demands that might have to meet, how it manages general banking, Credit department and Foreign exchange Operation, what is the position in terms of profitability and how the bank manages its capital so that it has sufficient funds to remain solvent. 1.2 Origin of the report: Now a day, education is not just limited to books......

Wills, Trusts

...Wills, Trusts and Estate Planning Everyday many loved ones die without a Will in place and as a result, their affairs are left in limbo. Without a valid Will in place, your loved ones will be left to pick up the pieces, pay the unpaid bills and correspond and possibly litigate with creditors. There is a common misconception that a Will can or should only be created later in life. However, if you have assets eg. a house, savings, or a business, and people or others you would like to look after, you must consider making a will no matter your age. Thinking, talking & planning for death may feel uncomfortable. However, if you died or became incapacitated, through illness, accident, old age or emergency without sorting your affairs, this could wreak havoc on those you’ve left behind. Like Wills, another widely misunderstood concept is that of trusts. Trusts are often seen as something only the rich need to be concerned with. A trust is created when assets (which can include property, cash, shares etc) are transferred by a person (the settlor) to one or more persons (the trustees) with instructions that they are held for the benefit of others (the beneficiaries). A trust may be set up during a person’s lifetime and have immediate effect, in which case it is usually evidenced by a formal trust deed and commonly referred to as a settlement. Trusts play a key role in everyday life and can provide to be extremely useful depending on the intentions of the Settlor. A...

...Departments In A Bank As soon as it becomes necessary, on account of volume of business, to divide the work in a bank into divisions, each employing a group of clerks, such division is organized into a department having a department head who is usually a teller, a head bookkeeper, or perhaps a junior officer. In the very large banks the executive staff is itself organized into groups, and there may be a vice - president and one or two assistant cashiers in charge of each important department. The work of a department in a large bank is nothing more nor less than the work of a single man in a small bank, apportioned among several men. For example, the receiving teller in a five-man bank will take the deposit, count the cash, examine the checks, assort them as to place payable, enter them upon the proper records and make a settlement or proof at the end of the day. In a large bank each of these operations is performed by a different man or group of clerks under the direction of the receiving teller, who is head of the department. It may be that he himself will do very little if any of the detail work. He becomes the manager. Frequently we find a department within a department, as for example, the money department within the paying teller's department. The ordinary departments, classified as to group, may be described as follows: Paying Teller's Department (Teller): Pays or certifies checks. In charge of the signature book or cards bearing the authorized signatures of all......
