Sos-440 Final Paper

...SOS-440 Final Paper According to Author Rex A. Hudson, “Terrorists are motivated not only by psychological factors but also very real political, social, religious, and economic factors, among others. These factors vary widely”. Accordingly, the motivations, goals, and ideologies of ethnic separatist, anarchist, social revolutionary, religious fundamentalist, and new religious terrorist groups differ significantly. (Hudson, 1999) Therefore, each terrorist group must be examined within its own cultural, economic, political, and social context in order to better understand the motivations of its individual members and leaders and their particular ideologies. (Federal Research Division, Library of Congress, 1999, para. 54) I will use Hudson’s assertion as my theoretical framework to analyze if my findings are compatible with a plausible assertion that terrorism is based off social and political views of the people who see their current state as unjust. The National Liberation Army (Ejército de Liberación Nacional or ELN) is a revolutionary guerrilla army; who have fought in the Colombian Civil War since it began in 1964. The ELN advocate a composite Communist ideology of Marxism and Liberation Theology. The ELN was founded by Fabio Vásquez Castaño and other Colombian rebels trained in Communist Cuba; upon the Vásquez Castaño death, the ELN was headed by a series of Roman Catholic priests, exponents of Liberation Theology. (Brittain, 2010) Most notable was the Priest......

...Term Papers COMPARING APA FORMAT IN A RESEARCH/LAB REPORT AND A TERM PAPER? WHAT IS THE SAME? * Margins (one inch) * Rules regarding quotations (long and short) * Rules for citations * Rules for references * Rules for page numbers * Rules for title page WHAT IS DIFFERENT?
Parts * In a lab/research report, you test people/animals to collect data. You then statistically analyze that data and draw conclusions. Because you must report all these activities, a lab/research report must have a Methods, Results and Discussion section. * Term papers are usually about other people's research. Since you do not test people or animals yourself, you do NOT need a Methods, Results or Discussion section. Introduction * In a lab/research report, the introduction must explain what question your data will answer and how your study will help build a body of scientific knowledge. Because of this, the introduction of a lab/research report briefly describes related research by other people (that is, a literature review with citations).. * The introduction in a term paper is more like the Abstract of a lab/research report. It is an overview of the entire paper. In a term paper the literature review (with citations) is found mostly in the body of the paper.

...witness abuse in relationships or emotional spousal abuse demonstrate higher rates of physical aggressiveness, delinquency and interpersonal problems than other children. Children whose parents are additionally physically abusive are even more likely to experience such difficulties. Children who see or hear their mothers being abused are victims of emotional abuse. Growing up in such an environment is terrifying and severely affects a child's psychological and social development. Male children may learn to model violent behavior while female children may learn that being abused is a normal part of relationships. This contributes to the multi-generational cycle of violence. The consequences of emotional child abuse can be serious and long-term. Emotionally abused children may experience a lifelong pattern of depression, estrangement, anxiety, low self-esteem, inappropriate or troubled relationships, or a lack of empathy. As teenagers, they find it difficult to trust, participate in and achieve happiness in relationships, and resolve the complex feelings left over from their childhoods. As adults, they may have trouble recognizing and appreciating the needs and feelings of their own children and emotionally abuse them as well. If you grew up in a verbally abusive home, it may be hard to change your patterns of reacting or see a new way out of conflict with your children. ...The High Cost of Healing Barbara Bauman HCS/440 April 21, 2014 Dr. David Moody The High Cost of Healing The cost of health care has been at the forefront of politics for years. It is one of the most talked about topics not just in political venues but also country wide. Every American has an opinion on how our economy can be fixed and they are passionate about health care reform. The price of insurance alone causes many Americans to not have coverage. For those that can afford coverage, the struggle to pay co pays is immensely crippling their bank accounts. Of these burdens on Americans today, the most frightening fact lies in the cost of prescription medications. The price for prescription medications is quickly becoming one of the largest medical expense burdens on Americans today. Many Americans are cutting expenses in other areas of their lives such as groceries and entertainment in order to obtain the pills that directly affect their health. Some people do not have prescription medication coverage in their policies and have to pay 100% out of pocket. The demand of certain drugs is causing and allowing some companies to greatly increase price ("Consumer Reports", 2006-2014). Terrorism is in the eyes of most, a meaningless hate crime, which has no true reason behind it. The terrorism mindset is people who want to create terror among civilization. They are trained to disturb peace, and to break social harmony. Terrorism is also a horrible threat to the modern world and modern society. It has become a problem around the world, not just in the United States. Many innocent people are killed by terrorist and their acts of terrorism. An individual can see terrorism in multiple forms, but not limited to: Bombing, hijacking, cross border terrorist activities and massacres on a massive scale, in addition to many others not listed. Its consequences are very frightening. Though much effort is put into eliminating terrorism, it is impossible to get rid of it until some strict laws are devised. Whenever and wherever society is victim to brutality, injustice, wrongs and intolerance, terrorism cannot be eradicated. There are many terrorist groups out there, of many different origins and sects. The group that will be discussed is Al Qaeda, which is the most well-known out of the groups listed. The questions and statements that will be answered and debated are: 1.) A brief explanation of Al Qaeda and the summarization of its origins, 2.) Al Qaeda's......

Fin 370 Week 1 Individual Paper-Important Terms

...Financial Terms and Roles April 8, 2014 FIN/ 370 1. Finance: Finance is the study of how people and businesses evaluate investments and raise capital to fund them. (It is how large firms or the government manage large sums of money). 2. Efficient market: An efficient market is a market in which all the available information is fully incorporated into securities prices, and the returns investors will earn on their investments cannot be predicted. (Past data stock prices cannot help in predicting future stock prices). 3. Primary market: A primary market is a market in which new, as opposed to previously issued, securities are bought and sold for the first time. In this market, firms issue new securities to raise money that they can then use to help finance their businesses. The key feature of the primary market is that the firms that raise money by selling securities actually receive the money. (Primary markets are done by underwriting groups like investment banks, they set a beginning price range and ensure its sales goes to investors.) 4. Secondary market: The secondary market is where all subsequent trading of previously issued securities takes place. In this market the issuing firm does not receive any new financing, as the securities it has sold are simply being transferred from one investor to another. (An easy way an investor can sell or liquidate investments.) 5. Risk: The chance that the investment’s actual return will be different. (The......

...sharply, it sent ripples across export-dependent Asian economies, which began to face a contraction as a consequence. Although the Malaysian economy was insulated from the direct effects of financial exposure because the new derivatives were not allowed into the country, the global financial crisis has cast doubt on the Government’s plans to achieve vision 2020 due to a collapse in exports and a slowdown in foreign direct investment (FDI). The global financial crisis and the deleveraging activities in the advanced economies led to disposal of assets worldwide, including in the region, which caused sharp declines in the regional equity and bond markets. There was a large reversal in short-term capital flows, especially in the second half of 2008 as these funds were remitted back to the US. This sharp reversal of funds flows was, however, well absorbed by the domestic financial markets, given the ample liquidity in the financial system and the sound banking system. The strong reserves position of the country also acted as a buffer for US dollar liquidity and exchange rate movements during this turbulent period. In addition, the broad-based financial sector reforms and capacity building measures that have been undertaken following the Asian financial crisis had increased the financial sector’s resilience to withstand the financial turmoil. The exposure of the domestic banking system to the sub-prime assets was also limited.......
