Assignment III As technology advances cybercriminals find more ways to hack and access millions of corporate accounts, these crimes are committed in more imaginative, daring, and complex ways. On Wednesday 21, 2014 eBay Inc. announced that hackers raided its network between late February and early March (Jim Finkle, 2014). Little to no information is known about the cyber attacker, only that millions of people were affected. EBay Inc. said cyber hackers stole email addresses, birthdays and other identity information between late February and early March 2014, but still had found no sign of unauthorized access to financial or credit card information, which the company states is stored separately in encrypted formats (Soham Chatterhee, 2014). It is also known that the hackers had access to over 145 million accounts and personal information, like address, phone numbers, and even birthdays, that is why eBay urged all their users to change their passwords (Jim Finkle, 2014). The cyber-attack did not only affect the users, but also the investors, eBay's shares fell as much as 3.2 percent on Wednesday after the company revealed the attack on a database that also compromised encrypted passwords (Soham Chatterhee, 2014). Authorities and cyber forensics states that they still do not have a suspect. Experts state that it's not uncommon for large corporations to take weeks to understand the full impact of an attack, because hackers are often able to steal data without leaving obvious clues (Jim Finkle, 2014), in this case the only information known is that hackers gained access using the identifications of three corporate employees, ultimately making their way to the user’s database. Tying the information known about the cyber-attacker with the theories of crime it could be assume that different theories took place. One of them could be the rational choice theory, it states that people are rational and weight the potential cost and benefit of committing a crime (McQuade, 2006), since the hacker knew he was attacking a big corporation. Also because of the fact that the hacker got the credential of three employees of eBay, it can also be inferred that the routine activity theory took place, the cyber hacker could have been a motivated offender who has suitable target and the absence of capable guardians (McQuade, 2006). Cyber-attacks happen more often and every day to millions of people, sometimes people are aware but most of the time they are not. I personally received an email message from eBay Inc. advising for me to change my password. Like previously mentioned there is no information on the cyber hacker and his intentions to why he wanted to hack into eBay’s database. One reason can be because the pool of suspects grows to be anyone who has access to a computer.

...Technology has made life easier for people and it is now becoming something that people rely on too much. In today’s world technology is seen everywhere you go, you can see it in a workplace, schools, public places and in our homes. Technology is a great thing as long as people remember to use it as a tool and not a way of life. Because people rely on technology, it has caused problem like loss of work, vehicle accidents, and lack of proper communication. People should know how to live without fully relying on technology and sadly, not many do know how to live without it. People will argue that technology is the future and that people need to know how to use it to live. Workplaces will argue that technology has improved productivity and reduced costs. Schools will argue that technology has made learning easier for most students and it is something they need to learn to be ready for life outside of school. Most people will just simply argue that they cannot live without technology. These are all good points and yes because of technology, we have been able to get more work done in less time. Sure technology can do the work faster and with fewer mistakes as a person and learning how to use technology is something that everyone needs to know. However, we have relied too much on technology and the question should not be can you live without technology, the question should be, do you know how to live without technology. Today’s jobs mostly run on technology and less by humans....

...Technology: It’s Effect on Our Youth Growing up I remember playing outside all day, enjoying the outdoors, and riding bikes down the dirt roads, trying to find some new adventure to get into. Looking around now, I notice teenagers glued to their phones when they are out eating, walking around and even while driving. It seems like a lot has changed since I was a child. Technological advances have made our way of life easier by making communication faster than ever before, improving production rates, and making it easier to access information. However, with the good also comes the bad. I have noticed an increase in the time children spend inside, as opposed to outdoors, the changes in behavior of children and teenagers, and the decline in personal interaction. I believe that technology, if not used in moderation, could have a negative influence on our youth. I have noticed the significant change that has occurred in technology in just a generation’s time. As a child, I remember when people were purchasing their first personal computers, usually for everyone in the household to share. These computers were not nearly as fast and advanced as computers are today. Now, nearly every home in America has a personal computer, laptop or some other way of accessing the internet, like a smartphone or tablet. While access to the internet can help educate children if used in an educational way, misuse of technology, like playing violent video games, could cause a......

Reliance on Technology

...Rodger Covino 21NOV13 COM/150 Week 7 – Introduction and Conclusion Today, the world is more dependent on technology than ever before. More than 90% of Americans own a computerized device (Gahran, 2011). People received text messages and emails on their cell phones, go online to order food, cars are able to park themselves, and while driving, the lights are controlled by centralized computer system (Greenman, 1998). The truth of the matter is, that people have become so dependent on technology that they are not prepared for any type of service interuptions. With non-disaster related blackouts up 124% since the early 90’s (Patterson, 2010) and the increase in disruptive weather patterns, people should start taking steps to sever their dependency on technology, or at the very least have a solid plan in place for when things go black. We should also pay more attention to the information that we make available online. The most damaging information is the information that we make readily available with little regard for who might be viewing it. People are entirely too dependent on technology related services for communication, commerce, and social media. Our over reliance on technology is causing the social life of many individuals to become distorted. Before the boom of technological growth, people socialized and interacted, but today many people prefer connecting with their friends and family through social media, as opposed to face to face communication. The......

...Reflexes and More Vacuous Our nation changes and improves every year, and one of the many improvements that continues to evolve is computer technology. It becomes more prominent and is changing the generations of teenagers and adults as it continues to become more popular. Many can argue that computer technology is good or bad for our minds. Nicholas Carr has shared his view that technology is making our minds vapid. He states at the end of his article “Is Google Making Us Stupid?”, “as we come to rely on computers to mediate our understanding of the world, it is our own intelligence that flattens into artificial intelligence” (345). However along with all the advancements that can help our nation there are also a few technologies such as social media and gaming that does not exactly help improve our generation. Technology may be improving to be fulfilling the wants of people, however our nation needs a generation that does not spend their entire life on the internet. Therefore, social media or gaming is a drawback to computer technology because it begins to prevent people from using their full ability of brain power which will soon prevent from furthering technology in our world to better the nation. The internet and social media have benefited people by improving the knowledge that people have. Many great advances can come out of technology, because just thirty years ago our nation did not even know about the internet. However nowadays, it is used on a daily basis to......

...Nowadays, technology is transforming the way we live, work, learn and play. Although the growing number of people complain that resource shortage and environmental pollution become serious due to the development of technology, it is undeniable that technology has made the world a better place to live. In my opinion, technology has made people's lives more comfortable. Firstly, the communication between people is becoming faster and easier. Using the internet,we can make friends from different countries and share our feelings with them online. Also, we can send E-mails to our friends in a few minutes Instead of writing letters or sending postcards, the Internet enables us to send E-mails to our friends in a few minutes and know the latest information worldwide immediately. Secondly, technology has made our lives more and more convenient. For example, at the beginning, people used to travel on foot which would take them a great amount of time and energy. But now we have cars, airplanes and high-speed trains which make our journey faster and more comfortable. With the help of modern transportation vehicles , people can go everywhere they prefer to. Finally, advanced medical treatment and technology lengthen people’s life. For example, at the stone age, our ancestors’ average age was about 25. However, after people discovered the mysteries of gene, many deceases which were considered detal before can now be treated and cured. Now people’s average age is two or three......

The intent of this paper is concentrate primarily on the relationships of team building, the challenges that are faced when technology is present in a working environment, the positives/negatives of virtual teams, and how technology can make for a more effective working environment. In order for a team to build a successful relationship, they have to be willing to work together in hopes of achieving a common goal. As we have read in our text, not all groups are successful. Our text compared groups to teams, and the main argument is that a team is just a general collection of people. When people are not brought together to work cooperatively with one another, it makes the process of team building a very difficult task to micromanage compared to the goal at hand. The camaraderie that is built throughout virtual teams is able to be achieved in numerous ways. Web meetings, documents, photographs, and visual organizational charts make it possible for virtual teams scattered all around the world to have a common working ground where they are able to collaborate as one team and do so successfully. A challenge can be defined as difficulty in a job that is stimulating to one who is engaged in it. With technology,......
