State Requirements In this profession, licensing is mandatory prior to commencement of practice. As a future practitioner, I am interested in knowing the regulations governing this profession. My state is Virginia; therefore, I have accessed Virginia Board of Counseling website, and my state requirement worksheet source is this website.
Required Courses and Hours To apply for a license in Virginia one must have acquired a graduate degree. This degree must not be undergraduate degree but Master’s or higher degree. For a graduate to be licensed he must have completed at least 60 hours of graduate study or quarter years not less than 90.The area of study should be in counseling, and the academic credentials must have been from an accredited university or college. The coursework contains thirteen core courses; the minimum for all coursework is three semesters.
Internship (residency) Hours The residency requirement is of 3,400 hours in counseling practice. The residency hours are in various clinical problems, populations and theoretical framework in the following areas. Changes to these took effect as from 3rd July 2014. In a recap these areas encompass, diagnosis, assessment, evaluation, Appraisal, case management and professional ethics. It is a requirement that one has to have acquired at least 2,000 hours of direct client contact which are within the 3,400 hours of residency. It is also a requirement that residents must document at least 600 hours of internship experience whereby 240 hours of these must be with direct contact with the clients.

Supervision Hours The state specifies at least 200 hours of supervision. Monitoring must occur once between 1- 4 hours of 40 hours of working and experience within the residency. Supervision may be at the group level or individual level, and it is to be done by a clinician with two years experience prior to licensure.
National or State Exam To qualify for licensure, one must sit for (NCMHCE), National Clinical Mental Health Counselors Examination, when applying for application by endorsement, one is exempt from this exam. Our state requires this national exam from NBCC, and they do not have their exams.
MISC
The applicant for licensing must have completed at least a master’s degree program or higher that prepares them for counseling practice. The age that qualifies one to apply for license corresponds to the age of attainment of the minimum level in this case that is master’s degree. The board evaluates the individual background and denies licenses to those who have previously been convicted either due to a misdemeanor, violation of regulations or aiding violation.
Scope of Practice The state specifies that a counselor is licensed only to perform these functions. Anything beyond this is considered a violation of the law. These functions are counseling, psychotherapy, appraisal, diagnostic procedures, psychopathology, treatment of addictive disorders, research and marriage and family systems theory. In our state Virginia, there are two forms of licensing. These are licensure by examination and licensure by endorsement. Licensure by endorsement applies to counselors who have previously held professional counseling license in other jurisdictions outside the state of Virginia. As such these instructors are required to provide proof and documentation that their credentials and experience meet the criteria as that set in Virginia. When seeking licensure by examination, an applicant has to sit for the relevant exams as earlier discussed. In Virginia, the Board has authority to revoke, to suspend or even deny the license.

Regulatory Requirements

...Legal, Safety, and Regulatory Requirements Legal, safety, and regulatory requirements impact the human resource department by establishing laws which not only protect the employee, but the employer as well. For example, The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is “responsible for enforcing federal laws that make it illegal to discriminate against a job applicant or an employee because of the person’s race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information” (U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission). These laws apply to various types of work related situations including hiring, firing, promotions, harassment, training, wages, and benefits (EEOC). The United States Department of Labor (DOL) “administers and enforces more than 180 federal laws” (United States Department of Labor), which “covers many workplace activities for about 10 million employers and 125 million workers” (United States Department of Labor). Safety requirements fall under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970; this act assures “safe and healthful working conditions for working men and women; by authorizing enforcement of the standards developed under the Act; by assisting and encouraging the States in their efforts to assure safe and healthful working conditions; by providing for research, information, education, and training in the field of occupational safety and health; and for other purposes” (Occupational......

...another challenge. But the going market rate must be considered in an effort to achieve and maintain external equity. If a business owner concerned with retaining top talent, must consider the compensation practices of other companies in your industry as a tool for reducing both turnover and recruiting costs. Especially in a business where employees believe they can receive better pay for performing the same work somewhere else, there's little incentive to stay with an employer; therefore, you must be concerned with external equity. Factors within a company must also be taken into consideration when you're addressing compensation issues. Internal equity seeks to place the same value on jobs that are similar in nature, responsibility and requirements. Jobs requiring greater skills or more responsibility are seen as more valuable than lower-skilled jobs. But remember, how your employees view their compensation is just as important as the compensation package itself. The potential exists for pay programs to be misunderstood or characterized as unfair, subjective or downright unlawful. In some cases, there may be merit to those perceptions. Overall, a good pay program should be SMART, meaning it should be S = Strategically based. When designing a pay structure, should look at company's goals and take its future business direction into account, while rewarding and recognizing employee performance. M = Market tough. They should also look at the market and monitor what the market is......

...Requirements Harvesting A large project in information technology can be long, difficult, and very frustrating. Many projects are either abandonded, put on hold, or even stopped due to problems that come up along the way. While there may be dozens of reason for these types of project failures, I am going to discuss one common cause. This is the painful task of gathering requirements. Paul Glen, a blogger for www.techrepublic.com, offers a different approach. Requirements Negotiation Typically the process of gathering requirements involves sitting down with the stakeholders and getting a list of all the items they want to be provided once the project is complete. It is not uncommon for items to get added along the way or even removed. Changes in requirements can cause major problems with the success of the project. The problem is the mindset and approach to requirements gathering. Gathering implies that the requirements are already out there somewhere waiting to be picked up. (Glen 2011) “What's common in all these images of gathering is that there's something out there to be collected, like crops, shells, or people, and that those things are already whole and complete.” (Glen 2011) Instead of gathering requirements, the process should be more of a long and in-depth discussion on the items in an effort to negotiate what requirements can and will be provided. “Successful projects begin not with a harvest, but with a difficult set of discussions on what should be done.”......

...Requirements The manufacturing plant that the author works for would benefit from complete barcode capabilities as stated in the author’s previous paper. This paper will explain the processes that are needed in to find requirements for new software. What is needed is to find out what a system requirement is by asking questions within the organization. According to Wright, “a system requirement is a property that is essential for an IT system to perform its functions” (Wright, 2007). I will explain these requirements by looking at three areas within the organization. First there is a business requirement, user requirements, and lastly functional requirements. Business Requirements Business requirements are described as the objectives of the business. This answers the questions as to why the company is taking on the project. “The requirements grow out of the vision for the product. This vision is driven by goals and objectives of the company. This is a long-term view of what the product can accomplish for the users and the company” (Gottesdiener, 2008). For instance as stated earlier L-3 receiving area needs a barcode capability for one it will help the department stay on top of shipments that come into the area. Second, it will also allow less mistakes and higher accuracy for inventory. Third, it will increase the staff’s accessibility to other jobs within the department. Last, it will help the customer. These are just a few examples on how it will help the......

...requirements Editor: Neil Maiden ■ C i t y U n i v e r s i t y, L o n d o n ■ n . a . m . m a i d e n @ c i t y. a c . u k 10 Small Steps to Better Requirements Ian Alexander T he journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” This Chinese proverb helps people focus on the present, rather than the unmanageable future. Project teams can take several small, easy steps to improve requirements to the point where they’re good enough. But every project is different. Your team might need to take steps that wouldn’t be right in other situations. The basic steps listed here, roughly in order, demand nothing more than a whiteboard or a pen and paper. Requirements management tools and specialized models can help later on. where software is just a (large) component. Later, you can analyze each interface in detail. Step 1: Mission and scope If you don’t know where you’re going, you’re not likely to end up there, said Forrest Gump. Is your mission clear? Write a short statement of what you want your project to achieve. Out of that will grow an understanding of the project’s scope. The scope will develop as you more clearly understand exactly what achieving the mission entails. A traditional context diagram is a good tool for describing scope in a simple outline. Unlike a use-case summary diagram, it indicates interfaces and the information or materials that must come in or out of them, rather than just roles (that is, UML actors). This becomes especially...

...Software Requirements. First, you have to understand what exactly software requirements are. The whole goal of the requirements phase in software development is being able to accurately decide what to build and then being able to document the result properly. All system requirements should be determined before the system design process. System design is the process where you come to the conclusion of which parts of the requirements will be designated to hardware and which to software. If you are not careful, you can easily run into a requirement problem. Not only are requirement problems continual they can be expensive. Requirements errors account for 70 percent to 85 percent of the rework costs on a software project (Wiegers 2003). In the article “Software requirements engineering: what, why, who, when and how”, “If one finds a requirements defect during the requirements phase and it costs one unit to fix (for example, three engineering hours, $500), the cost of fixing that same defect will typically increase as it is found later and later in the life cycle. In fact, studies show that it can cost more than 100 times more to fix a requirements defect if it is not found until after the software is released to the field” (Westfall 2006). The whole purpose of the requirements phase is to create and specify absolutely what the software is being built to do without detailing how to do it. As easy as this may sounds it at times still can be a tough task. Requirements......

Regulations and Requirements

...Regulations, Requirements, and Standards Paper HCS/529 November 3, 2014 Regulations, Requirements, and Standards A health facility should be safe for staff and patients in the facility. When planning the setup of the health facility the management should provide key safety measure that will make the facility safe to both the staff and the patients thus enabling a peaceful environment (Guenther & Vittori, 2008).  The setup should include exit route in case of fire, fire extinguishers, adequate spacing of pathways to enable people to escape from the venue without causing a stampede. With high level safety measures the facility will be secure and safe for effective performance of tasks by medical staff. It will also be conducive for the patients and clients of the institution who come on daily basis for checkup. A safe environment for a health care facility is favorable as it enhances the safety standards of the institution. The facility should be on secure location for the sake of both the client and all staff working in it, as the institution is highly labor based the security of all people to use the facility should be put on consideration (Guenther & Vittori, 2008).  In January of last year, the emergency room of Doctors’ Hospital of Michigan (DHM) closed and was later converted it into a 24-hour Urgent Care. This paper will discuss regulations, requirements, and standards that will affect facility design and......
