User Persona
Tania is a MS student at Columbia University. He loves spending time with her friends and love learning new programming languages. She worked with a software firm and has working experience on various technologies and tools. She is new to the university and needs social media to catch up with her friends and keep track of ongoing activities at the campus. She joined facebook 6 years back and has 1000+ friends but is in touch with just 5-10% of those friends. She enjoys quick updates from friends about their location and similar stuff, but those posts do not solicit gobs of clicks, likes, or shares. Consequently, she’s not seeing them as much as she wants to. Its irksome for her to have no control over what she sees in her news feed, she is still being trailed by many pages that she no more wants to see or were tagged in some posts that she never wanted to be seen attached to. She accesses facebook mostly via her cell phone and spends around 1-2 hrs daily just to check on updates unlike in the past where she used it to chat and strike conversations with her friends. She has no problem in navigation while going through the news feed, she feels it’s very intuitive and simple, but it’s not what she wants to see. Moreover, she has hard time interpreting the various functionalities provided by the facebook for example, she wanted to crop her profile picture after she mistakenly uploaded it but she couldn’t and has to delete and upload that picture again. She likes to read movie critiques and fashion but at the same time she does not want her news feed to be teemed with just them and would love to explore new and exciting things. Delving further, she has contextual identities, i.e. she wants many posts or pictures just to be shared with her immediate family members, or few friends but has hard time keeping them that way. She started using social platform to…...

Businesses that succeed have learned how to bundle all this information and share it so that they cut through all the noise and met the challenge head on from being invisible to being visible. Social media can help reveal that information, know-how, and talent to the world and spread your brand (Bullas, 2012). Getting closer to customers can be done by successfully manipulating social media in delivering experiences of tangible worth in return for their time, attention, and recommendation. With the worldwide eruption of social media, CEO’s around the world have adopted at least one form of social media into their company business model. ...Assignment 1: Social Media Medina 1 Prof: LEG 100: Business Law 1 July 25, 2013 Medina 2 A few years ago I jumped on the social media bandwagon after being introduced to it by my father. I was always a little skeptical about social media because of all negative that I had heard about it. Now, I love it because there is a lot of positive about social media as far as I am concerned. Social media is an asset to marketing, and it is fun for personal use as well. I am fan of Facebook so I will discuss how it can direct consumers to a better source of purchasing. A Legally Astute Marketing Manager According to our text a legally astute manger has four components; a set of value-laden attitudes about the importance of law to the firm’s success; a proactive approach to regulation and legal issues; the ability to exercise informed judgment when managing the legal aspects of business; the appropriate use of legal tools and context specific knowledge of the law (Bagley, 2013, p. 11). ...Design of a Social Media Manager As the Internet continues to manifest itself into the central platform for a vast majority of retailers, the need for a well-versed marketing manager has developed a new target: social media. These new outlets can determine either marketing success or a quick marketing suicide if the correct individuals are not in place to manage and maintain the company accounts in the most respectable manner. It would be of the highest regard for a company to acquire an individual who emanated a legally sound capability to run these accounts. With the development of environments like SnapChat, Twitter, or Tumblr, seemingly limited but socially fruitful social media platforms, there begs a need for someone who is well versed in the legal necessities of mass marketing in a direct-to-the-consumer environment. Being able to push an advertisement quickly to an individual’s phone or tablet would potentially make for a very rapid sales environment on the front end. However, the legal ramifications of a misinterpreted ad, poor market analysis, or violating some level of privacy would require a more proactive approach to the potential legal issues caused by this form of placement. This can all be solved by having someone who is not only legal-minded, but able to function as the point of human interface for a corporation, bringing in a more personal feel to a brand (Denmark, 2013). The entire scope of social media requires an individual who can make the best......

...International Conference on Communication, Media, Technology and Design ICCMTD 09-11 May 2012 Istanbul - Turkey “THE SOCIAL MEDIA AS A PUBLIC SPHERE: THE RISE OF SOCIAL OPPOSITION” Asst. Prof. Dr. A. Fulya ŞEN Fırat Üniversitesi İletişim Fakültesi - Gazetecilik Bölümü - Elazığ Abstract In The Structural Transformation of the Public Sphere, Habermas described the bourgeois public spheres of the 18th and 19th century in England, France, and Germany. These spheres arose as arenas of cultural critique often arising from reading societies that focused on novels and the like. Cultural critique became political critique as these groups turned to issues of public concern fighting policies of censorship and for freedom of opinion. The public sphere is in the work of Jürgen Habermas conceived as a neutral social space for critical debate among private persons who gather to discuss matters of common concern in a free and rational way. This public sphere is open and accessed for public. Habermas pointed out that media has contributed to the decay of the rational-critical discourse and causing the decline of the public sphere. Political public spheres include social movements, media that monitor and criticize the state, and groups that take political action. In recent times have seen an explosion of debate, blogging, theorising and hype around the role of the internet in today’s social movements. ...Social Media and its Influence on our Youth The correlation between the development of youth and social media has become blatant. Although few of the consequences are favorable, the majority have displayed a negative impact. The drive social media can implement on youth is exceptional. The pressure and strain social media can place on our youth is an enduring force which leads individuals to question themselves as a person and feel inclined to fit a norm expressed in media and social media of our society. The underlying force social media can play in the lives of the youth is astonishing and is a force that must be dealt with and controlled, for it not only holds the power to give an individual strength, but also to break them down. Social media is described as content created and shared by individuals on the web using freely available websites that allow users to create and post their own images, video and text information and then share that with either the entire internet or just a select group of friends (Affilorama, 2012). Social Media or Anti-Social Media?

...Social Media or Anti-social Media? In 2013 a study found that teenagers were experiencing a decline in intimate friendships as they chose Facebook over face-to-face communications. The image above displays a young girl on her computer; she seems to be focusing intensely on her computer screen. She is wearing a black jacket with black eye shadow and she looks exhausted, which is associated usually with emo teens or depression. The title on the image contradicts purpose and meaning of what social-media means to most people. Social media was administered to help keep friends and families in contact from all over the world, but according surveys taken, social media is actually stopping people from communicating face-to-face. Why has social media made people more antisocial rather than making them social? Why has social media replaced outdoor activities and face to face conversations almost completely? How are parents or adults stepping up to help make their children or friends more sociable? Why is social media an escape outlet for people’s emotions? How does it contribute to making people anti-social? What are reasons why social media can make a positive impact on our daily lives? The girl’s black eye shadow and black hoodie portray a state of loneliness and depression, proposing that social media is causing our youth to be depressed or anti-social. Aside from the fact that the girl is on a social media site she stares at the screen with a blank expression. Conforming to......
