Organizational Commitment and Communication

...Organizational Commitment and Communication Patti Garbacz University of Phoenix COM/530 May 6, 2013 Robert Kolber Abstract Many organizational behaviors influence group communication: what is communicated and how it is done. These traits include leadership styles, sources of power, motivation and culture, and commitment of the employees to the organization. Leadership Styles and Communication Walt Disney was a charismatic leader who shared his vision of creating “one of the world's leading producers and providers of entertainment and information,” and “seeking to develop the most creative, innovative and profitable entertainment experiences and related products in the world"1 (retailindustry). He communicated this vision to all his employees and encouraged them to adopt it as their own. This was done by creating an extensive orientation and training program for his employees. They were encouraged to treat their customers as guests. They conduct peer interviews using those peers as role models who personalize the communication of company policies and procedures for each position. After 30 days, new employees participate in a mutual evaluation where supervisors discuss job performance and cast members have an opportunity to evaluate how well they were prepared for the job. Disney also uses closed-circuit television to inform cast members about company-wide events (Miller, 1992). The use of employee surveys and emphasis on imagination is an example......

Organizational Commitment and Communication Paper

...A successful business is only as successful as its leaders, as well as its ability to communicate. Communication is key to success, whether it is inside the organization itself or between the organization and its consumers. The leadership style of any organization can affect its ability to effectively communication, both inside and outside the walls of the company itself. Leadership Styles In today’s business world, one can find several different modern leadership styles. Examples of these styles might include: charismatic, transformational, visionary, transactional, and servant leadership styles. (Nayab, 2011) Charismatic leaders seek out devotion in their workers in order to fulfill organizational goals. These leaders are constantly observing their environment to pick up the moods and concerns of individuals and larger audiences. Then, much like a predator to its prey, do they hone their actions and words to suit the situation. Leaders of this nature engender the trust of the people through visible self-sacrifice and take personal risks in the name of their beliefs. Transformational leadership is very popular in today’s business world, focusing on effecting revolutionary change in organizations through a commitment to the organization’s overall vision. These leaders sell the company’s defined vision, which is usually very radical in scope and nature. While some traits of these leaders are very similar to the charismatic leaders of an organization,......

Organizational Commitment and Communication

...Organizational Commitment and Communication COM/530 Organizational Commitment and Communication Organizational commitment is necessary for a productive workforce and effective communication. Communication of individuals creates and sustains an organization but the organization expects members to communicate in a certain way, structuring their behavior with expectations and habits (Cyphert, 2007). The communication within an organization can define atmosphere and determine the work culture. Google has an open work culture that encourages individual expression of ideas, creates an atmosphere of acceptance, and treats workers with respect. Even though Google’s open work culture encourages individual contributions there are other leadership styles that would alter the work culture and change group communication. Leadership at Google and the effect of a different leadership style Googles leadership style fosters empowerment of employees allowing employees to come up with innovative ideas and implement them. Google had a 70-20-10 norm for time allocation by employees; 70 percent of the time is for core business of search and advertising; 20 percent to off-budget projects relating to core business; and 10 percent in pursuing ideas of employee’s individual interests and competencies (Manimala & Wasdani, 2013). This leadership style is effective for encouraging open communication within the working group. Googles leadership communicates by offering generous rewards and...

Smith, MBA Starting back in the early 1920, Disney made it their mission to seek leaders who are competent in making daily decisions. Leaders have to have “the ability to influence a group toward the achievement of a vision or set of goals (Ch. 12 pg. 376). The leaders of Walt Disney are the board of directors and the management team. The board of directors consist of ten members with Robert A. Iger being the chairman and chief executive officer. Organizational Commitment and Communication

...Organization Commitment and Communication John Pfaff, V COM530 April 27, 2015 Gloria Davis Organization Commitment and Communication Starbucks is a multinational, multi-billion dollar company, and they did not get there by accident. This status was achieved through the direction of the company’s founders and senior executives and careful communication of the company’s goals and plans to other members of the organization. If there were mismanagement in the leadership structure or power sources, then Starbucks would not have been able to reach the heights it currently enjoys. In addition, if there were not buy-in from the employees in regards to Starbucks’ mission, the company could have fallen short of its current stature. Therefore, it is easy to see that Starbucks is successful because of their leadership style, the power holders in the organization, the motivation of their employees, and effective communication between the three. The current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Starbucks is Howard Schultz, and when he returned to the company in 2008, he brought a transformational style of leadership with him. At the time, Starbucks was expanding at a dangerously fast pace and had lost sight of what set them apart from other coffeehouses. Schultz felt that the baristas had lost their passion for their work and for helping the customer, so he set to rekindle both of these passions by retraining the baristas. In addition, he led several thousand employees in donating......

At Google, there is no one right leadership styles. Different leadership styles are used based on the situation. The varying leadership styles encourage and promote employee involvement, problem solving, and decision making. The type of communication that develops between management and the employees is controlled by the leadership style and is the basis for everything that happens at Google.
