Laundry Soap

...Abstract Laundry soap is needed by everybody. Whether they buy laundry soap or they buy the products needed to make it at home, they will still always use it to wash towels, blankets, clothes, pillows, sheets, etc. In this market, the products are and will continue to grow and the products may change as the times change. Laundry Soap Introduction The laundry soap and soap industry has over six hundred and fifty companies. Dial, Palmolive-Colgate, and Proctor and Gamble are just a few major companies that are included in the top fifty major companies. This list of major companies make about twenty-seven billion dollars a year, or about ninety percent of the total revenue. Market Force 1: Economic Environment While the economy is slowly trying to pick itself back up, we are still in a recession. There are still a ton of unemployed people, people losing their jobs or being laid off, etc. Because of our recession, any company that manufactures laundry soap has to continuously adjust and/or create new marketing strategies. The laundry detergent industry is affected as well as many other companies. If people do not have the funds to spend on any product, it may case the companies to drop their prices down. Another way the companies try to make it more affordable for consumers is to offer coupons, sales, or even rebates, whether it is a mail in rebate or an automatic rebate at the time of purchase. All of these things also help in promoting their products. A marketer can...

Soap

...soap is then called "fully boiled". Another consideration for removing the glycerin is the difference between soap price and glycerin price. At higher glycerin prices (as it historically has been), extra income can be derived from selling the glycerin separately. Recently, however, glycerin prices are low (as glycerin is a by-product of bio-diesel plants) and soap manufacturing might be more lucrative if the glycerin could be left in the soap. The removal of glycerin from semi-boiled soap is done through repeated washing with salt water (brine). This makes the process plant a bit more extensive and It also produces a salty waste water loaded with glycerin - thus a water treatment plant is required. 7) Soap plants traditionally are batch plants where the feed materials are mixed and reacted in large heated kettles (called "crutchers") under atmospheric pressure and made quasi-continuous by operating several kettles in turn. The process takes several days and the natural cooling and drying might even take several weeks. To speed up the process and get more economy of scale, most modern plants are continuous plants where the reaction takes place in a pressurized loop reactor and the drying in vacuum spray driers. As rule of thumb, any production above 2 tons per hour of dried soap is better done on a continuous plant. The largest possible plants are determined by the capacity of the extruder and can reach around 10 tons of dried soap per hour. 8) The batch processes with......

...The sun inched through the green and ivory curtains and unmasked the layers of dust that floated around the room. It seemed like so many years ago. It was sometime in the summer between the hot months of June and July; the last day of a weeks vacation. I sit, peeling an orange with a knife, so as not to break my just painted red-satin nails, feet propped up on the table, un-shoed and sock-less. I notice the lime-green smoothie mixer that came complimentary with the hotel room. I guess that it had to be from Target and remember that I need to buy a new razor and shampoo and conditioner before we leave. Oh and soap. Definitely need more soap. I didn’t even want to think about soap right now. I want to go now but know that I really shouldn’t leave Katelyn alone despite everything. She is sleeping, I like to remember her that way that morning, sleeping like that. I try never to forget her curls and her eyelashes as I watch her sleeping on the bed; her round Jackie Kennedy sunglasses and my Audrey Hepburn heels that were thrown off the bed from the night before. I want to remember her this way. Before she goes back to her life. Her life without me. Her married life. Her life that began again last night. I try to remember her this way. The moon had deepened the curtains a olive purple as the street lamps lit the way home for the late night drunks. “I knew you wouldn’t stay Katelyn…” I told her, my tears mixed with my......

...PED use in Athletics Performance enhancing drugs have been used by athletes for decades. In ancient Greece, some of the earliest Olympians used substances in an attempt to gain a competitive advantage. The drugs that they would use would either be plant seeds or extracts of mushrooms. Later in Rome, gladiators were known to have turned to drugs. The gladiators would dope for many different reasons, from dulling pain to creating a bloodier spectacle for viewers. In professional baseball, players like Barry Bonds and Jason Giambi were called in front of Congress to discuss steroid use in baseball for two weeks. Congress insisted that steroids were ruining the sport and needed to be banned when, in reality, reported revenues were vastly increased during the steroid era. Congress also preached about a level playing field, but the New York Yankees have a payroll three times that of average teams so how fair can the league really be without a salary cap. This research paper is not on the fairness of baseball though; it is about why a person would choose to do PEDs and how it affects society. Looking at some of the influences presented; it is shown that winning is a major force, a motive and drive; going deeper into winning we conclude that money is one of the major rewards for winning. These are seen as endorsements, contracts, and advertisement opportunities that are very profitable and also sponsor individual players and teams in sports. These revenues influence and encourage......

... This occurred when sprinter Ben Johnson tested positive for anabolic steroids His gold medal was given to silver medal winner Carl Lewis who, ironically, was later found to also using enhancers during his Olympic career. Perhaps the most significant downfall of American athletes occurred in July of 2005 when the California's Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative pleaded guilty to steroid distribution and money laundering. The list of athletes on the Co-Operative was even more damning than the guilty plea. These athletes included Barry Bonds, Jason Giambi, and several members of the Oakland Raiders. There are many different performance enhancers that are taken for various reasons by athletes. According to what Craig Freudenrich said about PEDs, his PHD was about "How Performance Enhancing Drugs Work” here are just a few examples such as; Stimulants, building muscle and, Relaxants, reduce weight, Increase oxygen delivery, last but not least to mask pain, finally to mask drug use. With all that these different substances can do for an athlete, the overall objective is to increase one's physical performance. Along the same lines, the overall result is deadly. Unfortunately, Performance enhancers give you wonderful looking ads, lean legs, and tough muscles. Your outward appearance may impress you in the mirror; but the internal battle isn't seen or felt until it is too late but, all that is only used for sales commercials and zero benefit for the consumer. Women who choose to......

Peds in Sports

...each of the four main sports leagues have all had to come up with their own interpretations, rulings, punishments, and general code of conduct when it comes to handling situations involving Performance Enhancing Drugs or PEDs. To further understand the issue of PEDs in domestic sports here in the US you need to take a step back and look at some of the larger scale events that effected what turned out to be the “steroid era”. Starting off in 1988 Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson was stripped of his Olympic Gold Medal for testing positive for an anabolic steroid. Less than two months after Ben Johnson had his medal taken away, President Ronald Regan signed an act outlawing non-medical steroids sales as a part of his war on drugs; less than two years later congress passed the Anabolic Steroids Control Act which placed steroids in the same legal class as other drugs such as amphetamines, opium, and morphine. Scandal brought legal action, legal action turned into more strict legal action, and finally the first of the four major sports leagues got involved in the MLB. This was only the start of what would become an ongoing issue that has stretched over the past couple, few, decades; the following is more insight to each league and their specific struggles with PEDs respectively. Due to its growing celebrity status, I will start with the MLB and their policies regarding testing, policies, and penalties. Baseball was the sport most affected by steroids and it was great for......

Soap

...McPherson Everyday Chemistry of Soap The choice that I've chosen for my term paper was the everyday chemistry of soap. The reason I chose this is because I wonder how the soap actually makes things clean, and why when the chemistry part of soap touches your skin or clothes, it up lifts the dirt. Also, I see people that walk around looking dirty, but have iPhones and good material things and wonder if they know how important cleansing your purees really are. For those who don’t know what soap is or what it is used for, soap is a salt of a fatty acid. Soaps are mainly used as surfactants for washing, bathing, and cleaning, but they are also used in textile spinning and are important components of lubricants. Now of days, soap is made up of the fats and oils and reacts with lye which is a sodium hydroxide. Lard, palm oil and coconut oil are types of solids that are used to stay hard and resisted from dissolving is soap dishes and water. Even though soap is known for its cleaning ability, it’s not its only purpose. Some soap can be mixed with gasoline to get gelatinous napalm. It takes longer to catch on fire than pure gasoline. It’s also found in Canned Heat which is soap and alcohol mixed that can be used when you want to keep food warm outside or something. I was upset when I found out that my lab class wasn’t going to be able to do the soap lab due to snow days, it would have been the perfect hands on lab to go right along with my paper. Soap is used in many......

...it is necessary to purchase those products. In the 1800s there were many people who still had a negative attitude towards the blacks after the civil war and considered being dirty, exhibiting the blackness, as very bad. Soap businesses used their advertising to target those seeking to become whiter. In the late 1800s, because of developments in technology, manufacturing soap became more popular. It was easier for people to purchase a bar of soap rather than to make it at home as it was done before. The N.K. Fairbank Company, purchased in 1875, was a well-known business that manufactured soap throughout the United States. It grew to be “the largest producers of soap products in the United States”(“The Largest in the world”) making “$5 million in annual sales” by 1880 (Wilson 1). Fairy Soap published illustrations in booklets that many customers found entertaining. The booklets would be given out to their loyal customers that helped increase their sales. The N.K. Fairbank Company became “famous for its distinctive advertising” which attracted most of their customers (Wilson 1). Suggestive ads helped grab the attention of those who possess a racist standpoint. Many soap producers would connect personal hygiene with one’s status in society. “Soap advertising, which depended on the distinction between clean and unclean, thus delivered a message that was more political than cultural: the clean were the decent, civilized people, while the unclean were the indecent......
