In 2010, five boys beat hundred of thousands others to get the coveted spots in the seventh series "The X Factor". Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson did not know each other before the audition of the British talent show but they were grouped together by fate and later achieved fame in one direction.

The members applied as solo candidates but they did not qualify as "Boys" category, thus judge Nicole Scherzinger suggested them to form a group so that they would qualify as "Groups". One Direction began toppling their competition one by one although they remained the only group in its category. With Simon Cowell as their mentor, One Direction managed to finish third behind runner-up Rebecca Ferguson and winner Matt Cardle.

But One Direction were the quickest to break through the charts in United Kingdom and United States. Their supposed winning song "Forever Young" was leaked online after the "X Factor" final. The group signed a recording deal with Syco Records and they went on the annual contestants tour through April 2011. Meanwhile, work on their debut album was also moving fast.

"What Makes You Beautiful" was released as the first U.K. Single in September 2011. The song successfully landed at number on U.K. Singles chart. "Gotta Be You" was released as one last bullet before the album "Up All Night" was released in November 2011 and took the second spot of U.K. Albums chart by selling more than 138,000 copies in the first week. The album was followed by U.K. Tour in December 2011 and January 2012.

Their influence started to spread Stateside and they took the invasion one step at a time. The group signed up as the opening act of Big Time Rush from February to March 2012. They made a quick stop at the 2012 BRIT Awards where they received the honor of Best British Single for "What Makes You Beautiful".

In the U.S., the boys were handled by Columbia Records. "What Makes You Beautiful" was released as the first U.S. single and it debuted at number 28 on Billboard Hot 100. Due to the rising hype around the band, the label moved the release date of "Up All Night" a week earlier on March 13, 2012. It performed well on the Billboard Hot 200 chart by going straight to number one for selling 176,000 copies in the first week of sale.

The so-called second British Invasion started spreading as the band were invited to perform on "Saturday Night Live" and 2012 Kids' Choice Awards. The band made a cameo on Nickelodeon's "iCarly" and were booked to have their own TV series on the network. To contain the anticipation, the band announced a headlining tour in North America from May to July 2012.

In late 2012, One Direction released their sophomore album, "Take Me Home". Featuring songs and production of Sweden's Carl Falk, Rami Yacoub and Savan Kotecha as well as contributions from fellow British act Ed Sheeran, the record topped charts around the world. Its singles like "Live While We're Young", "Little Things" and "Kiss You" also ruled the charts across the globe. The boys then embarked on another tour that saw them playing over 100 shows, including six sold-out nights at London's massive O2 Arena. At the same time, they were being filmed by director Morgan Spurlock for "This Is Us", a mix of documentary and concert footage that proved to be successful at the box office when it was released in August of 2013.

While touring, One Direction began working on their third album, "Midnight Memories". Released just in time for the 2013 holidays, the record featured songwriting input from all the members, a new production team and some new folk and '80s hair metal influences. Peaking at number one in seven countries, it spawned the hit singles "Best Song Ever" and "Story of My Life". To support the album, the group launched "Where We Are" tour in 2014. They also started writing new material for their fourth album while hitting the road. Later in 2014, the band announced their new LP would be called "FOUR". They also planned another world tour to support the effort slated for November 17.

...Ever since freshman year, they began running this site where people submit dares. Most of the dares involve playing girls and taking away their v-cards. I was never really bothered by the boys and was never targeted with any dares, until now. “Shannon?” I gulped, re-reading the dare. “It’s finally happening!” She sounded so happy about it. I started to feel sick. How could my best friend be so excited that I was the next target after what they did to her? “I have to go. I’ll text you.” Before she could whine, I hung up and pulled my laptop onto my lap, leaning against the wall. I scrolled down the page, reading all the replies to the newest challenge. My eyes darted back and forth, and I quickly realized Shannon wasn’t the only one thrilled about it. I heard a knock on my door and quickly shut my laptop right as my dad walked in. “Do you wanna talk?” He asked awkwardly. I could tell he was uncomfortable. My dad wasn’t really the type to have serious conversations with anyone – especially since my mother left him and ran off with some guy. “Nah. I’m fine.” I forced a stiff smile at him, hoping he’d get the message that I didn’t want any type of conversation right now and that he’d leave. But he just stood there. “Um, Taylor, I know it’s been hard on you with your mom and all, and you’ve been acting different.” He sighed. “I just don’t want you to feel like you have to go through it on your own.” I looked at him and with all the seriousness I could......

One Direction vs Big Time Rush

...Just another one-hit-wonder or a true star? One Direction. Nickelodeon wannabe or really committed? Big Time Rush. These are both questions when thinking about these two bands, but both bands have strengths and personalities which allowed them to strive. I really can't say if the pop music in this generation has gotten better or worse, because there are so many posers out there you can't tell who's autotuned and who isn't. At first glance, the bands seem identical, because they both have a fan base populated by girls and they're both boy bands. People also think that these bands' will fade out in a couple of years just like Hannah Montana and But truthfully, their music videos and acting, hit singles, and what they could do to have fans staying happy are completely different. Both One Direction and Big Time Rush are great bands, but both have to work to make it to the top. Originally, the members of One Direction each wanted to be solo artists. Yet if it hadn't been for that twist of fate and the discovery from "X Factor", One Direction wouldn't have been where they are today! Other than music videos, the boy band has no acting experience, yet they have 80 MILLION views on YouTube! The closest this boy band has gotten to acting is when Nickelodeon made their online diaries into a weekly television show as of March 2012. Only one of their singles, "That's What Makes You Beautiful" was on the Billboard Top 100, but that doesn't mean they aren't famous! They have performed......

Art Direction

...information technologies and marketing activities * 3 In advertising * 4 In film * 5 In publishing * 6 In Japanese animation * 7 See also * 8 References * 9 External links ------------------------------------------------- General role and job description[edit] Various artists may create or develop specific parts of an art piece or scene; but it is the charge of a sole art director to supervise and unify the vision. In particular, the art director is in charge of the overall visual appearance and how it communicates visually, stimulates moods, contrasts features, and psychologically appeals to a target audience. The art director makes decisions about visual elements used, what artistic style to use, and when to use motion. One of the most difficult problems that art directors face is to translate desired moods, messages, concepts, and underdeveloped ideas into imagery. During the brainstorming process, art directors, co-workers, and clients are engaged in imagining what the finished piece or scene might look like. At times, an art director is ultimately responsible for solidifying the vision of the collective imagination while resolving conflicting agenda and inconsistencies between the various individual inputs. ------------------------------------------------- Interfacing between information technologies and marketing activities[edit] A coordination among the different professionals in the mentioned areas is wanted, under the supervision of an......

Strategic Directions

...Featured Chapter Creating a Strategic Direction Visions and Values Paul Olk, Peter Rainsford, and Tsungting Chung ncreased globalization and the incorporation of many new information technology (IT) tools have enhanced the need for top management to set a clear strategic vision for a company. As market demands and the ability to communicate globally encourage companies to continue to expand into new geographical and product markets—and as they also enter into long-term buyer-supplier relationships or contract out activities previously conducted internally—companies are spread more thinly. This creates a challenge of how to coordinate all of the activities conducted around the globe and by partner organizations. While sophisticated software programs (e.g., enterprise resource planning [ERP]) or intranet capabilities enhance internal communication, these are not adequate. Establishing and maintaining a consistent strategic direction for the company begins with setting a clear vision for the company. A strategic vision provides multiple benefits to a company. First, it presents a broadly shared sense of organizational direction and purpose. Direction is needed because few organizations have achieved greatness by being all things to all consumers. To instill a purpose, most successful companies achieved their leadership position by adopting a vision far greater than their resource base and competencies would allow (de Kluyver & Pearce, 2002; Hamel & Prahalad, 1989). A......

Based on this article I will be answering and explaining the following. How do questions helps to ensure that a project is successful, what type of questions must be asked and answered to ensure the project is appropriate for the organization and how does a leader know if all the right questions have been asked. Questions that help ensure that a project is successful In my opinion questions help to ensure that a project is successful because if you don’t ask questions were are unlikely to get the information we need to make good decisions. According to the article Leadership & Direction “Good plans start with brainstorming” (“Big dog &”, 1997, para, 2). By asking questions the team is able to plan positive forces and events and then taking action to avoid any obstruction that might put the project at risk of failing. ...creates project schedules that ensure timely project completion. Introduction: Read the attached “GenRays Case Study” before completing this task. Scenario: GenRays recently implemented a new centralized system for finance, purchasing, logistics, and accounting. This system has provided cost savings and other benefits to the company. Management expects that similar business benefits would be possible with a new centralized Human Resources Information System (HRIS), which would include payroll functions. Currently a rather primitive payroll system is used, and small teams have been deployed to work in each company location to support local payroll and human resources functions. The proposed HRIS would replace this primitive one. GenRays management has asked you to act as the project manager and lead a project team to put together a plan for the HRIS project that will allow senior executives to determine whether they should proceed with the implementation of a new centralized HRIS. If the plan is approved, the executive sponsors indicate that you may begin implementing the approved plan after W2s are issued in the new year, but all system elements must be functional before year-end closing. Task: A. Complete the attached “GenRays Matrix Template” to document the project management tools that would be most useful for the HRIS project. B. ...someone does not follow instructions properly, the outcome can cause chaos and great frustration throughout any type of environment. Failing to follow instructions will ultimately lead to the project of interest being done incorrectly. When a person does not follow instructions, he or she finds that finishing tasks will inevitably be much more difficult. How can one complete something effectively if the person at hand does not know what exactly they are suppose to be doing? In order for one to follow instructions, a person must listen well, read carefully, and ask questions if necessary. This means that in any given scenario, whether it be instructions verbally, physcially, or electronically recieved, that person is responsible for complete and total understanding of their responsibility for said project. When instructions are given, full and total unidivided attention must be at hand so that the tasks are not only heard, but fully understood. If a single person on a team does not adhere to instructions, then the entire team suffers on some level. Tasks that are done properly the first time do not have to be redone, therefore, one saves time and effort by following instructions each time a task is tackled. Following instructions can preserve one’s health and well being in some cases. Professionals that do not follow instructions place themselves and other people at a greater risk for injury and death. Opportunities for advancement are limited, and clashing with others......

The Direction of Sports

...The Direction of Sports As a sports fan I am concerned about the directions sports have taken.  Sports in general have been headed in the wrong direction for some time now.  They still have a lot of time to change.  They need to act quickly though if they want to solve the problem.  Every major sport seems to have a problem.  Baseball had their huge problem with steroids, basketball has a reputation of its players being thugs, but football seems to have no major problem.  Many of these problems have not only affected the leagues, they have affected the youth all across America.  Like the problems the solutions are very diverse.  I love all sports, and I would hate to see them become disgraced.   Baseball which is my favorite sport has had the most trouble in the past couple of years.  Their decline started with the steroid scandal involving Barry Bonds.  When a player that big in the game is going after a cherished home run record and there are scandals surrounding it, there is going to be some turmoil.  It wasn’t just Barry Bonds fault and the people involved in the scandal, it was also baseball officials fault for not doing anything when they knew about the things going on in baseball.  They turned their back to the problem because at the time baseball was doing well and they didn’t want to disrupt that.  Baseball was forced to act because of the scandal.  They put in a steroid policy that was laughable compared to the steroid policy of the Olympics.  Baseball would......

I am getting worried now, after thirty minutes, I should have reached her home by now. I’m going back to ‘Tot Spot’ and start again. Some directions, the Scarlet Women sign is on the other side of the road, facing the other way. My blood pressure is rising, I’m starting to get emotional and stressed. Uh, I should have written down those instructions. Okay, go over one more time in my head, what did she say to me on the phone? Forty minutes from the swimming centre. Walking distance, that’s what she said, walking distance. Swimming Centre, Shopping centre, Tot Spot, Scarlet Women, passed all of those, what have I missed? Here it is; the alley-way shortcut to her street. That’s what I missed. Mm, it does not look safe, no lights, its dark, and the weather’s lousy. Might go back and get the car. I should go back and get the car. But her house is just at the end of the alley two houses on the right. I’ve been watching too many movies; go on, it is only fifty metres, go. I can hear voices, what are they saying? I can hear two people conversing with each other. “K”. “No, it is K full-stop”. “You don’t get it, no-one does okay, anymore. Strategic Direction

...Running head: STRATEGIC DIRECTION—HOME DEPOT Strategic Direction—Home Depot Keller Graduate School of Management J. Lambrou, Professor Strategic Direction Introduction What is Strategic Direction? This means taking your company in a direction related to what’s happening in the dynamic environment of what the business provides (be it in a services, manufacturing, technological, or financial area). (Olsen, 2007) Therefore, the strategy and direction the company take are defined by what established and unique value propositions the company has when compared to competitors; operations executed to provide different and tailored value to customers; clearly identifies any tradeoffs and clarifies what not to do; focuses on activities that fit together and reinforce each other; and is continually driven for improvement within the organization and while moving it toward its defined vision. I use The Home Depot (Home Depot here-out) for this paper as I have a part-time job with them. Strategy Home Depot’s simple and straightforward strategy is to ensure it diversifies its operations by having several businesses competing in the different product markets of home improvement. This operating strategy allows the company to earn above-average profitability by dictating prices from suppliers lowering input costs and minimizing distribution transactions......
