STEEL INDUSTRIES OF BANGLADESH

REPORT ON FOCUS
The report “Bangladesh on its way of becoming self sufficient in rod production, export is also a possibility” by Shuvankar karmakar, that was analyzed here, was published in the Daily Prothom Alo, on 17th November, 2012.
BACKGROUND
Bangladesh Steel industry is emerging as one of the major industrial sectors of the country. It consists of small up to the largest scale of steel melting and re-rolling factories across the country that mostly produce deformed bar rod of different grade (40, 60, 500), angel, channel and coil for the construction industry. Though the history of Steel Industry is not older one but it can make a glorious future.
Before 1971 Bangladesh did not have any steel mill and even after the liberation there were only a few steel factories in the country. In 1990s the actual development began in this sector through a revolution. During that period the building constructing agencies or developer companies came forward to build modern infrastructure. Then with the increasing demand, new investors started investing in steel or rod production.
In 2012 we have almost 400 mills across the country including Dhaka, Chittagong. Although most of them are manual steel plants, 30 mills among them are automated.
Many steel producing companies have gained reputation as a br…...

...The difference between single-tasking and multitasking is that the programs would have to wait in a single-tasking environment before the OS can do the next task. Because the OS is responsible for managing the processor, it is responsible for diving the processor’s time. If the OS does not split the processor’s time it is then considered a single-tasking OS. For instance in Windows 98 it is considered to be a single-tasking OS whereas Windows 8 is a multi-tasking OS because the OS in 8 is multitasking. It allows for you to have many windows open as well as have print and web surfing capabilities and graphics going on all at the same time. With Windows 98 you had to wait to close some windows before completing a task. I remember when I tried to have to many windows open with 98 the computer would lockup on me and I would have to do a reboot to get myself out of the lockup. With the changes to the many different OS’s of today there are very little to no lockups when you have multiple windows open but the next thing you worry about is the security features on the OS. It is said that they have fixed the security features on the OS’s but that remains to be seen. There are two types of multitasking which are cooperative and preemptive. With cooperative multitasking the OS relinquishes control to a particular program and then retrieves it back when the program closes or is finished with it. For instance with cooperative you have Word open when you finish with Word and it......

...Teen Pregnancy Teens that are pregnant face unique problems. One, being a teen and being pregnant hold it’s on risk. In addition, teens who are mothers at an early age often have the fact that he or she is a parent interfere with his or her education, there are also problems involving social opportunities and employment options. Special problems that pregnant teenagers encounter are the financing of the pregnancy, the right to abort the fetus while being a minor, and the option to give the child up for adoption. These problems are unique to this population because many adults do not encounter these issues. Minors usually need the consent of at least one parent or other authorized adult to receive medical treatment but minors in certain situations can consent to some types of reproductive health and pregnancy related treatment on their own behalf. If a minor is getting treatment with the help of insurance, then the parent of the minor is involved and is aware of the services received. If the minor is concerned about involving his or her parents, other resources for payment are sought. Clinics such as Planned Parenthood provide assistance in family planning, abortion, and pregnancy services. The Adolescent Family Life Program is a free program available in California. All pregnant and parenting teens are eligible regardless of income. In addition, case management is provided to minor parents to help them access services which include medical services, child care, nutritional...

Nothing

...------------------------------------------------- Philosophy Western philosophy Some would consider the study of "nothing" to be foolish, a typical response of this type is voiced by Giacomo Casanova (1725–1798) in conversation with his landlord, one Dr. Gozzi, who also happens to be a priest, “ | As everything, for him, was an article of faith, nothing, to his mind, was difficult to understand: the Great Flood had covered the entire world; before, men had the misfortune of living a thousand years; God conversed with them; Noah had taken one hundred years to build the ark; while the earth, suspended in air, stood firmly at the center of the universe that God had created out of nothingness. When I said to him, and proved to him, that the existence of nothingness was absurd, he cut me short, calling me silly.[3] | ” | However, "nothingness" has been treated as a serious subject worthy of research for a very long time. In philosophy, to avoid linguistic traps over the meaning of "nothing", a phrase such as not-being is oftenemployed to unambiguously make clear what is being discussed. Parmenides One of the earliest western philosophers to consider nothing as a concept was Parmenides (5th century BC) who was a Greek philosopher of the monist school. He argued that "nothing" cannot exist by the following line of reasoning: To speak of a thing, one has to speak of a thing that exists. Since we can speak of a thing in the past, it must still exist (in some sense) now and......

...Examples of Descriptive Writing The purpose of descriptive writing1 is to make our readers see, feel, and hear what we have seen, felt, and heard. Whether we're describing a person, a place, or a thing, our aim is to reveal a subject through vivid and carefully selected details2. Each of the four paragraphs below responds, in its own way, to the guidelines in How to Write a Descriptive Paragraph3. The writers have selected a belonging that holds special meaning to them, identified that belonging in a clear topic sentence4, and then described the subject in detail while explaining its personal significance. In the following paragraph, observe how the writer moves clearly from a description of the head of the clown (in sentences two, three, and four), to the body (sentences five, six, seven, and eight), to the unicycle underneath (sentence nine). Notice also how the concluding sentence helps to tie the paragraph together by emphasizing the personal value of this gift. 1) A Friendly Clown On one corner of my dresser sits a smiling toy clown on a tiny unicycle--a gift I received last Christmas from a close friend. The clown's short yellow hair, made of yarn, covers its ears but is parted above the eyes. The blue eyes are outlined in black with thin, dark lashes flowing from the brows. It has cherry-red cheeks, nose, and lips, and its broad grin disappears into the wide, white ruffle around its neck. The clown wears a fluffy, two-tone nylon costume. The left side......

THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER part 1 August 25, 1991 Dear friend, I am writing to you because she said you listen and understand and didn't try to sleep with that person at that party even though you could have. Please don't try to figure out who she is because then you might figure out who I am, and I really don't want you to do that. I will call people by different names or generic names because I don't want you to find me. I didn't enclose a return address for the same reason. I mean nothing bad by this. Honest. I just need to know that someone out there listens and understands and doesn't try to sleep with people even if they could have. I need to know that these people exist. I think you of all people would understand that because I think you of all people are alive and appreciate what that means. At least I hope you do because other people look to you for strength and friendship and it's that simple. At least that's what I've heard. So, this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I'm still trying to figure out how that could be. I try to think of my family as a reason for me being this way, especially after my friend Michael stopped going to school one day last spring and we heard Mr.......

...present set aside the other divisions or faculties of the soul (whichever of the two be the correct name). But as to being what is called an animal and a living thing, we find that in all beings endowed with both characteristics (viz. being an animal and being alive) there must be a single identical part in virtue of which they live and are called animals; for an animal qua animal cannot avoid being alive. But a thing need not, though alive, be animal, for plants live without having sensation, and it is by sensation that we distinguish animal from what is not animal. This organ, then, must be numerically one and the same and yet possess multiple and disparate aspects, for being animal and living are not identical. Since then the organs of special sensation have one common organ in which the senses when functioning must meet, and this must be situated midway between what is called before and behind (we call 'before' the direction from which sensation comes, 'behind' the opposite), further, since in all living things the body is divided into upper and lower (they all have upper and lower parts, so that this is true of plants as well), clearly the nutritive principle must be situated midway between these regions. That part where food enters we call upper, considering it by itself and not relatively to the surrounding universe, while downward is that part by which the primary excrement is discharged. Plants are the reverse of animals in this respect. To man in particular among......

...A DIVISION OF LOXAFAMOSITY The Bible and Childbearing ABORT73.COM PO BOX 9291 - MOSCOW, ID - 83843 Overview: Even though the Bible has nothing directly to say about abortion, it has plenty to say about pregnancy and childbearing. One way to address the issue of abortion is to compare the place of childbearing in the Bible to the place of childbearing in a worldview that accepts abortion. Thus, an appropriate question to ask is: does the practice of abortion, the deliberate termination of a pregnancy, fit well with or sharply conflict with childbearing in the Biblical worldview? (1) Childbearing in Creation The significance of childbearing in the Biblical story becomes apparent starting in the first chapter of Genesis. Genesis 1:26-28 [26] Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.” [27] So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. [28] And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” Observations • “Be fruitful and multiply,” a command to bear children, is the very first command given to human beings. • There is a......

...are told in a nonlinear manner, fading and resurfacing cyclically as the characters’ memories reveal more and more to the reader and to the characters themselves. Summary: Chapter 2 After twenty-five years of fantasizing about Sethe, Paul D finds the consummation of his desire to be a disappointment. He lies awake in Sethe’s bed and decides that her “tree” is nothing but an ugly clump of scars. His thoughts turn to Sixo, a fellow slave at Sweet Home, who would walk thirty miles to meet his girlfriend while Halle and the Paul brothers pined away after Sethe. We learn that although Baby Suggs had eight children by six different men, Halle, her youngest, was the only one who wasn’t taken from her. When Halle bought Baby Suggs her freedom, she believed that, at her age, she was too old for her freedom to mean anything. Paul D’s interested gaze reminds Sethe of Halle, whose love was more like that of a brother than that of a man “laying claim.” Sethe remembers that when she and Halle first decided to get married, she asked Mrs. Garner if they were to have a wedding, but the white woman only laughed. With nothing to make the partnership official in any way, Sethe secretly stitched herself a dress to mark the occasion. The lovers consummated their relationship in a cornfield, and the swaying corn stalks alerted the other men that Sethe had finally made her choice. That night, the other Sweet Home men ate the fresh corn that came from the stalks broken by Sethe and......

...The Philippines is one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world. Heavy rainfall is frequent in this area. In February 2006, due to logging, this disaster-prone country experienced one of the worst disasters in its history: landslides that claimed the lives of over 100 people, due to illegal logging around the province of Leyte. More than 1,800 people were reported as being dead and/or missing because of these landslides, and many were left without homes. When conditions were stable enough, the government took immediate action to help the displaced citizens of their country, and began to repair the damages this disaster had wrought. To this day, this disaster affects the Philippines. Monsoon rains are a natural occurrence in the Philippines. These rains had afflicted the Philippines all through the month of February 2006. There had been warnings of landslides and floods, and many of the people of the potential disaster areas evacuated their homes. On February 17, 2006, a landslide struck the village of Guinsaugon, which is near the town of St. Bernard in Southern Leyte. A second landslide occurred later that night. When the landslides began, many experts believed that the monsoon rains were the reason for these landslides. But, upon further investigation, it was determined that illegal logging in Leyte had caused the landslides. The logging had caused the terrain around the Leyte area to become very unstable and highly susceptible to landslides. Because similar......

...hug it. After my ancient Greek art search, I moved on to Renaissance art. The Pilgrim bottle with screw top was so out standing (1581 B,C), and colorful! It was a big difference compared to what I had been looking at before so the colors really got to me, I felt it was something that was just as valued before as it is today based on its details, the colors picked for it and the amazing shape it has. it had a very antique feel, reminded me of a china set honestly. Then, I walked into a room full of paintings/drawings and noticed the Bust-Length Study of a Bearded Man with Cap in Three-Quarter View. I felt that it was the dullest drawing I've ever seen in my 21 years of life. I found nothing interesting about it, I started at it for a few minutes trying to get a feel for it and I seen nothing, just a drawing of an older man that seemed to look stressed out with a red beanie, in all dull colors. My overall favorite from the Renaissance collection was the Aquamanile in the Form of Aristotle and Phyllis, it was so small, delicate and had a shiny bronze color. I loved the detail it had, looked as if a woman was on top of you husband in a demanding strong way, pulling his head, letting those know she has control. It was pure. After I went over to the Gothic Art. I had not seen as much gothic art as I had seen Roman art, Greek art and etc. So based off the word "gothic" I expected very dark images and sculptures but that wasn’t the case, one of the first things I seen was the......
