Need Statement The South Bronx is known to be a high poverty stricken area sadly the children miss out on many opportunities because of lack of money. In a society where technology has advanced greatly it seems those without resources are left behind. Poverty in the Bronx is at an all-time high as the world moves forward it seems the families in the Bronx are drowning in need. In all of New York City the Bronx has the highest rate of poverty. The rate has slightly improved in recent years, but child poverty in the Bronx is almost 10 percent higher than in the most populous borough, Brooklyn, and well above the city average of 28.8 percent (Lievano 2009). . St. Ann’s Church of Morrisania is an organization located in the heart of the Bronx this organization have dedicated its services to the community especially the children. Seeing our children as our future St. Ann’s see the need to help defenseless children. Without help the children forced to live in poverty have no chance for a bright future. The programs at St. Ann’s are designed to assist low to no income families and children. There is a food pantry, a soup kitchen, free clothing, afterschool program during the academic school year and the freedom school program in the summer months. These programs assure that the children in the community are eating well, have clothes, and on certain days a hot meal. The programs also give the children a friendly atmosphere in which to socialize with their peers. The staff is small and there are many adult, college, and school age volunteers. There is always the challenge to provide new and exciting activities and programs that will enhance the children’s attention. The society we currently live in is a pre-internet era where many homework assignments require the use of a computer. The internet helps children with researching information used to complete homework assignments. For parents it is an avenue of keeping track of the progress of children’s academic prowess without waiting for progress reports or open school nights. It is also an avenue for seeking employment and skill improvement. Computers help to extend the reach for many while also opening avenues that would otherwise be closed. St. Ann’s already has a room with one computer in it this room can be transformed into a computer lab this room is big enough to house 10-15 computer stations. Adding a computer lab will be an advantage to the community as a whole and since St. Ann’s have a positive reputation with its donors it will make it easy to ask for help with this program. The computer lab will ensure that these children will have a chance at changing his or her future. Technical change has the potential to help millions of people in their daily battle to survive. New and improved technologies, which women and men living in poverty can use in ways which are appropriate to their context and needs, can: •Expand and improve their livelihood options •Increase their productivity and incomes •Improve the quality of the goods and services that they use, and •Enhance the quality of their lives. (Practical Action 2001) Technology will give families and children the opportunity through access to improve their lives, as well as extent his or her skills, and knowledge. Technology will open up the world for children to see beyond what he or she is surrounded by. There are many software programs that help increase a child’s academic abilities. Children will be able to do extensive research and get help with history facts. There are typing programs, writing programs, electronic books and many educational movies that will all lend hand to opening the mind of children. . There will need to be an instructor in the lab at all times. This means this program will generate job opportunities in the community. Because of all the work done in the community and the relationship between the community and the organization St. Ann’s could ask for donations of computers from local and national establishments should bring in free, or reduced priced quality computers which will cut down any cost from St. Ann’s. It would be estimated that the entire program should cost at least $175, 000 dollars. This money will also go towards electrical adjustments in the computer lab, training courses for employees, maintenance which will include a technologist and payroll for the instructor. It is estimated to have this computer lab up and running by next year it will require a lot time but will be well worth the wait for the children and the community.

Income Statements and Cashflow Statements

...In order to determine how income statements and statements of cash flows influence business decisions, it is important to know the definition of the two. Income Statements are defined as the summaries of an entity’s revenues, expenses, gains, and losses for a period of time and thereby reports the entity’s results of operations for that period of time. It determines if an entity operates at a profit during a certain time frame, and reports revenues, expenses, gains, and losses. The Statement of Cash Flows is a financial statement that explains the change of cash flows during a fiscal period. This includes operating cost, investments, and financial activities of an entity. Its purpose is to identify the sources and uses of cash throughout a fiscal period, and report all activities involving operations, investments, and financing. Both statements are very important in making long term and short term decisions in business. Income statements are important in determining these decisions because they allow investors to determine their role in an entity’s success by viewing its operating potential, management to determine decisions within the entity dealing with material costs, sales strategies, and consumer response to those changes, and CEO’s to view revenue reports, expenses of operating costs, and the gains and losses of the entity during a defined fiscal period before making major decisions on the direction of that entity. Statement of cash flow allows CEO’s, Investors, and......

Need for Change

...A Need for Change I go back now and the stores are all empty Except for an old coke sign from 1950 Boarded up like they never existed Or renovated and called historic districts There goes the little man There goes the little man Now they are lined up in a concrete strip You can buy the world with just one trip And save a penny cause it's jumbo size They don't even realize They'er killin' the little man Oh the little man These are the lyrics to Alan Jackson’s song “Little Man”. I think that this song gives a great picture of the way we shop, and how it has changed over time. There used to be specialty stores like a TV shop, hardware store and independently ran car garages, but they are being replaced by mini malls, Wal-Mart’s, and Jiffy Lubes. These “little men” still exist but are hurting. It is close to impossible to compete with the low prices that these chains can offer. In the article “The Store to All Ends” the company Wal-Mart is scrutinized. Why is Wal-Mart so successful? How is it affecting the world? Have you ever heard this? “Wal-Mart is taking over the world!” This statement is a little outlandish, but in all seriousness, maybe it is somewhat true. As the years go on, it seems that companies such as Wal-Mart keep getting bigger and more powerful. With all the corporate greed and global competition to produce goods at the lowest possible price, no one is worried about any of the negative effects that are resulting from it. Along with these......

His Needs, Her Needs

...His Needs, Her Needs: Building An Affair-Proof Marriage by Willard F. Harley, Jr. A Paper Submitted to Dr. Brown In Partial Fulfillment Of the Requirements for the Course Preventing Ministry Failure LEAD 625 By Adrian Mack 27 January 2014 CONTENTS SUMMARY 2 CRITIQUE 3 EVALUATION 4 Summary In His Needs, Her Needs, Willard F. Harley, Jr. is not solely talking about affairs, but is elaborating on the underlying themes of communication and selflessness. In the first chapter, Harley explains that when a person explains their relationship problems to someone external to the relationship, it can easily lead to an affair because a bond forms with this new person and he or she understands the needs that one yearns for in their life, time and again able to meet the needs if an affair begins (Harley 20). During his tenure counseling couples, Dr. Harley has recognized that men and women each have unique preferences in regards to their needs, and often differing perspectives on how the relationship would be “perfect.” Harley conceptualizes this with his analogy of a bank. Hence, communication, both talking and listening about problems and needs, is not the only necessary means to improve a relationship, but one must be willing to make the relationship work by considering not only themselves, but their significant other. For Harley, it is not about whether or not one is “skilled” at fulfilling their significant other’s needs or......

Statement of Need

...Acquisition Assignment 1- The Statement of Need Anthony Childs Strayer University 23 April 2011 For this assignment, I have chosen the Department of Energy. As a contracting officer, I have been tasked with overseeing the acquisition of a proprietary database program for the entire Research and Development department. * Explain how you would go about developing the statement of need? Give examples of the information required and factors to be considered. To begin the process of acquiring the new program, I would first develop a Statement of Need (SoN). Once the database program that we were currently using had been determined to be obsolete or no longer suitable for our needs (or, even better, if we had made this determination well in advance of the program actually failing to meet our requirements), a new proprietary database program would have to be developed (or purchased) and then phased in to replace our current system. In order to spend any of our precious government funds, I would have to make a case for why we wanted to buy a new program. One of the first things that I would do would be to speak to the users of the system to determine what exactly the current program was being used for, and how it was being used. Besides speaking with the individuals within the Department of Energy who used the program the most, I would also speak to the vendors (or developers) of the program to get their input as well. I would then find out what (beyond our current......

...groups include: • Investors / shareholders • Employees • Lenders • Suppliers • Customers • Government • Public What then are the needs of these groups and how would they use the published statements? Investor Group This group would comprise both existing and potential shareholders. They would consider whether to invest or disinvest in the business. Equity investors consider two elements to their investment, income and gain. Income in the form of dividends and gain in the share price. If the investor takes a short-term view then current dividends are of interest. Whereas a longer-term view would concern future earnings. A guide to the future can to some extent be seen in company reports with the chairman’s statement, although based on current performance, company forward strategy is often included. The investor group would also be interested in profitability and its trend over a period of time. Employees It is encouraging to note that some companies produce a separate employees report. Employees and their representatives require information on business performance for two principal reasons: • wage and salary negotiation • assessment of current and forward opportunity in terms of employment They would be interested in both the current financial stability and the longer-term financial viability of the business. They need information in a clear, simple and understandable form. I have seen some employee reports which include a value added approach rather......
