...NBA Case 1. Using Porter’s competitive forces model, analyze the NBA’s market situation. How does the use of Akamai help the NBA compete in the market? First by analyzing the NBA’s market by utilizing Porter’s competitive forces model, we need to look at potential entrants, suppliers, substitute products, and customers. Now potential entrants that could be competitors to the NBA could be less prestigious basketball leagues, national leagues, and other professional sports leagues that try to take away their customers like the NHL or MLB. As for substitute products other professional sports would also fall under this category as well along with amateur content uploaded onto other streaming sites that would lure consumers away from the NBA main website like Youtube for instance. As for customers, their bargaining power is very high in this business because they have several alternatives from television, to live games, and radio. One of the advantages that has is its additional content when it comes to statistics and scores of other teams as well as insights and commentaries on matches. Akamai helps the NBA compete in the world market by allowing basketball fans throughout the world to access as fast as possible NBA’s virtual assets. Video Case #1

...Stephanie Dunfee Article Summary 1 May 27, 2015 Video Case #1 – Chobani: Making Greek Yogurt a Household Name 1. Hamdi Ulukaya identified residents of Long Island, New York first for his first cups of Greek yogurt. The first cups were placed on shelves of a small grocery store in 2007. He focused on the “4Ps” to promote his yogurt. The first P was his product strategy. Ulukaya hired a yogurt master to help him develop Chobani. The product strategy focused on the actual product and packaging that product appropriately. The product undergoes an authentic straining process that removes excess liquid whey, resulting in a thicker, creamier yogurt with 13-18 grams of protein per single-serve cup. Chobani is higher in protein than regular yogurt, made with real fruit and only natural ingredients and preservative free. It does not contain any artificial flavors or sweeteners, but does contain five live and active cultures, including probiotics. As far as packaging, Ulukaya wanted a European style cup with a circular opening exactly 95 millimeters across. This shorter, wider cup is more visible on store shelves. In addition, he chose shrunk-on plastic sleeves with bright colors. Ulukaya’s price strategy involved approaching retailers directly rather than utilizing distributors. Prices were set high enough to recover costs and give reasonable margins to retailers, but not so high that they could be undercut. Ulukaya’s place strategy proved to be an extremely smart move. He......

As mentioned in the video, they based the entire business around marketing and getting this product to the public therefore not only does it account for the majority of the company’s sales, but it also helps set it apart from other sleep aids. The market for items that help you sleep is massive with over the counter things in pill & liquid form, nasal sprays used for when you are sick, prescriptions from your health care physician, vaporizers, humidifiers that emit steam, and even surgeries to open your nasal passages; however, breathe right sets itself apart by being an FDA approved product that is drug free and is easily applicable for its users. Also relating to their success is their ability to adapt to the different cultures when they promote their products. As they experienced with marketing the product here in the United States vs. marketing in the United Kingdom, everything plays a part including packaging. Where the dark packaging worked in the United States because many Americans were able to connect that with sleeping and rest, the packaging in Europe had a......

Starbucks Video Case

...Starbucks Video Case 1. There are many benefits of mobile payment systems in terms of situational influences and level of involvement. By substantially reducing the amount of time and effort required to pay for the goods, the system can increase the rate at which customers are served, shortening lines and reducing the number of employee hours spent running cards and making change. Mobile payment systems make the physical presence of cash and credit cards unnecessary, allowing for more impulse purchases and reducing the likelihood that an otherwise loyal customer will pass up the opportunity to make a purchase just because they forgot their wallet. These systems also reduce the cost of fees imposed by credit card companies on consumers and merchants, by reducing the number of small transactions (where the fee required to use a card may exceed the actual price of the item). 2. With their purchase of Evolution Fresh, Starbucks is addressing increased consumer demand for products that are viewed as being part of a “healthier lifestyle” (text). Consumers are looking for fresher, all-natural foods and are willing to pay a higher price for them, satisfying their esteem needs by getting a product that is viewed as superior to basic fast food. Also, by tying itself to the makers of a premium product, Starbucks is solidifying consumers’ perception of it as a retailer of premium food and juice, allowing it to move beyond its original coffee-centered business. 3.......
