Management as a Role Model

...Ethical Issues and Management: Manager as a Role Model Your Name Axia College University of Phoenix Ethical Issues and Management: Manager as a Role Model In today’s workforce, it is the management team that helps drives a company to success. Managers are responsible for a long list of task including; ensuring their employees are doing the job correctly and on time; ensuring that the expectations and goals are clear and concise; the expectations and goals are being met; ensuring that the employees’ needs are being met; ensuring that the employees are following company policy; and the list goes on and on. One major role of a manager is to be a good role model to their employees. According to Yahoo Education, a role model is “A person who serves as a model in a particular behavioral or social role for another person to emulate.” [ (Role Model, 2009) ] This means that a manager as a “role model” needs to lead by example. In this paper we will discuss some moral and ethical dilemmas managers face as a role model and the relationship between ethical responsibility and social issues. According to Trevino, L., & Nelson, K. (2007), “They [managers] are probably the most important ingredient in an organization’s success and they [managers] are frequently the most overlooked.” They go on to say that “managers are the lens through which employees view the company, as well as the filter through which senior executives view employees.” (Trevino & Nelson, 2007) This can......

Role Models

...Watson Waters Role Models Eng. 093-661 September 30, 2013 Role models are ordinary people like we are, but they are people who are stars who are mostly on T.V. and the radio and they are known all over the world. I have learned over the years role-models have a positive effect, and some have a negative effect, and some have a positive and negative effect on people’s lives. Cam Newton, a pro football player he is a positive role- model. Pro athletes are usually positive role-models. Cam Newton give back to the community and he goes to the hospitals and visit the sick and he does a lot of charity work, and he helps raise money to help find cures for diseases. Cam Newton does a lot of positive things, that’s what makes him a positive role-model. Drug dealers are negative role-models. They sell drugs to whoever wants to buy them; it doesn’t matter if you are an adult or a kid. Drug dealers are just after the money, they will kill you if they think you are trying to play them, they will rob you and some people still want to be like them because they love money, but the love of money is the root of evil. The president, Barack Obama has a positive and negative affect on people’s lives. Barack Obama is our first black president and a lot of people don’t like him because he is black. I believe he won the election because all the black people who voted, they voted for him. It is a lot of people who are glad they lived to see a black man become president,......

My Role Model

...underestimate the impact of the role model that teachers and school staff provide to students. I spent five years as a boarding student in High School and one teacher and one staff member had a profound effect on my life and faith journey. My Grade 8 Science teacher took the time to quietly talk to me after my second test which I had not done well in. He let me know that trying to fit in and thus not study for the test was not the answer – and encouraged me to do my best. His quiet, understanding approach was just what I needed at that point in my life. Even more profound was the effect of the cook on my life. He was always pleasant and polite, no matter how tough the comments from the students. It is impossible to provide food for 100 students just like mum does at home for the family. I had the job of opening the kitchen about 5 am to start getting breakfast ready. I had to go down to the cook’s flat and get the keys. He usually left them on the table just inside his room. Numerous times when I quietly slipped in to get the keys, I found him asleep beside his bed on his knees. That quiet statement about the practice of his faith has left an abiding impression on my own spiritual journey – even to this day. Something that came through very strongly in the interview with the Christian teacher who wanted his son in our school rather than in his prestigious private school, was his desire to have his son have strong Christian role models. There are excellent......

...ROLE MODEL A role model is generally defined as a person who serves as an example of a positive behavior. The term “role model” was introduced by Robert K. Merton who said that individuals compare themselves with "reference groups" full of people who occupy the social role to which the individual aspires. Adults, parents, people in authority, people of influence, celebrities, are often idolized and looked up to by the people around them. Since by definition a role model has to exhibit positive behavior, only some of these people qualify as role models. Others serve as bad examples, which unfortunately can be just as influencing. It is a daunting responsibility to be viewed as a role model. Regardless of how one reaches the stature of being looked up to, the responsibility is the same. Role models are supposed to walk the talk. As Albert Schweitzer said, “example is not the main thing in influencing others. It is the only thing.” I remember an advocacy campaign that focused on what we as adults show children. We litter and throw garbage even in areas with signs that say otherwise; and on our way to the mall with our family; we jaywalk as we cross the streets; we violate traffic rules, etc. Not unlike Aesop’s fable “the young thief and his mother”, we once saw a father alternating with his son to get packets of sugar and table napkin in a coffee shop. In a span of about half an hour, they must have made ten trips to the condiments station to fill a bag......

My Role Model

...My grandmother had a huge impact on my life. She always encouraged doing everything I thought I wanted to do in life. She would always say be the best that you can be in this life. My grandmother always said that I can do anything if you put your mind to it. She even said that I am a good person and can accomplish better in life. Those words along with other words have stuck with me to this day. It wasn’t a heroic deed that led me to see how she pushed me to my accomplishments. It was the deed of empowerment. That took me along way. I have accomplished a lot of things in my life. I will start with graduating from high school, becoming a licensed cosmetologist, and attempting to graduate from college with long term goal afterwards. My favorite activity or hobby does add meaning to my life. Every since I was little (I can remember being in second grade). I knew I would be a cosmetologist. I began early combing my own hair. Neither my mother nor grandmother could comb hair. I did a better job at a very early age. I then started practicing on my little sister’s hair until it became my job. My grandmothers empowering words started then when she noticed my talent. My talent has turned into my hobby because most people don’t get tired of their hobby that’s something that you enjoy. When I am off from my full-time job with benefits I spend most of the day working at my family salon. I really enjoy what I do and I’m really glad I made the choices in life that I made. I am a very......

Role Model

...was raised by my mother and stepfather. As far as I remember by father was not in my life as much as my stepfather was. My stepfather is my role model, he has shown me the ways and steps of life to reach our full potential. My Father is a hard worker, he works 5am-8pm Monday through Sunday. I have never met a person in love with work as much as him. He has the choice of leaving his work early but chooses to stay to make sure everything is complete. My stepfather came to this country 18 years ago to pursue a better career opportunity. He came into business doing Mosaics with his cousin where he later became manager in that section of the company. My stepfather never slacked of at what he did. He came across problems with his cousin’s company because they were not paying him enough and so decided to open up his own business. He is very successful at what he does and has done many great mosaics all through out New York City. He taught me that you couldn’t take things for granted. Never allow people to step over you or push you down. He is still, to this day, working to pursue succession and never forgets to tell me that in order to succeed in life you need, ignorance and confidence. Ignorance to ignore people who always try to turn you down and the confidence to know that you are the best at what you do and you will prove everybody why. My stepfather is my true role model because I look at him and I see what a father figure should be. He is always there and helping my family in......

Celebrity Role Models. Yes or No?

...Denzel Washington once said, “I think a role model is a mentor - someone you see on a daily basis, and you learn from them.” Celebrities are viewed as role models, but their influences are not always good. Their actions are viewed in the everyday public by media for abuse and overdosing.Celebrities do not make good role models because they act inappropriately, do drugs, and break laws. Often, celebrities are seen in the media behaving inappropriately. Miley Cyrus has been seen twerking on a teddy bear during a music award ceremony. Amanda Bynes has caught a dog on fire and twerked on a police officer. Justin Beiber egged a house. When in the public eye, celebrities do not act appropriately, and this is not what people need to look at as a mentor. Celebrities are often caught using drugs. Alex Rodriguez was recently caught using steroids while participating in the Major League. Whitney Houston overdosed on cocaine a few years ago before a concert. Amanda Bynes is a known current cocaine user. Using drugs is not what our society needs to look for in a role model. When celebrities think they have immunity they break laws and go to jail. Ray Rice was accused of beating his wife. Adrian Peterson was also accused of abusing his son. A Penn State football coach was found guilty of molesting some of his players. A quarterback at Florida State was accused of molesting a peer. Many big figures have been accused of misconduct, and everyone sees these horrible......

My Role Model English Paper

...died way before the day I was born. This man is Mahatma Gandhi. I remember it vividly. I was surfing the internet for profound and motivational quotes worthy enough to be posted on my sacred Facebook wall. While I searched, I could hear my mom vacuuming downstairs while my sister blasted her Finnish, heavy metal music as if she was challenging my mom in a battle over who could make the most noise. As this battle raged on my last nerve, I came across a website with nothing but quotes from a man named Mahatma Gandhi. I was somewhat familiar with Gandhi at the time; it was only a few weeks prior that my social studies class learned about his non-violent protests. He seemed like a pretty chill dude. I reached the end of the page. There it was, a simple sentence of eleven words: “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” All of sudden everything went quiet. It was like in the movies when a guy sees a beautiful girl and nothing else in the world matters except for that girl. I shook myself out of this trance, and went about my day but in the back of my mind those words lingered, pervading my thoughts often. I could not fully grasp the sheer significance of those eleven words until I was trying to sleep one night; the day’s event were whizzing through my head preventing my slumber. As usual, my thoughts turned towards those eleven words. I had an epiphany. You see, a common thing for teenagers to do on Facebook is to complain about how nothing ever goes their way. I......

Years ago when I was in 7th grade it was black history month and we were having our annual black history month project. I learned so much about her. Not only was she an activist she also was a playwright, and an author. So when I received this leadership/role-model project I knew exactly who I was doing my project one “Lorraine Hansberry”..!! Lorraine Vivian Hansberry ......

For me, that person is my mom she is very beautiful, successful. Ever since I could remember she has been right beside me supporting any dream or goal I was trying to reach. When I am older I hope I could be there for my kids the way she is for me. The first thing I admire is her beauty. No matter if she is dressed casual or professional she always looks clean cut and ready for anything that may come up. She has a beautiful big white smile that can warm up a room. She has very high cheekbones, which many people wish they were born with. Her eyes are a very light brownish green color, just looking into them you can see all the love she has for others.
