Advertising the article on the internet along with sending ads to magazine and newspaper editiors’ in hopes that the newspaper and magazine editors will print the ads and advertise for consumers to read and see about. “A consumer might carefully read along a magazine story but ignore an ad with the same information” (Perreault, Cannon, and McCarthy, 2011). The use of audio and visual media is another public relation opportunity. ...to flex a muscle of moral superiority. It’s no surprise, really, that The Help, the adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s 2009 novel that opened big out of the starting gate, has, in some quarters, been socked with that kind of criticism. On paper, at least, The Help sounds exactly like the kind of well-meaning but backward, “progressive” yet pious movie that Hollywood, by now, should perhaps have outgrown. It’s set in the early civil rights era, a time whose turbulence long ago hardened into safe, non-controversial mythology. It centers on the daily hardships of two black maids, somber Aibileen (Viola Davis) and feisty Minny (Octavia Spencer), in Jackson, Miss. — but the majority of the film’s characters are white (as is the film’s writer-director, Tate Taylor, and Stockett herself). The movie’s central narrative mechanism, whereby a well-meaning college graduate named Skeeter (Emma Stone) interviews the maids of Jackson for an anonymous tell-all book about their experiences, seems to conform to the conventional, patronizing arc of a white heroine lending a noble hand of assistance to black characters who couldn’t, without her help, have done it on their own. (She can also be viewed as vaulting herself to success on their backs.) Beneath all of these factors, there’s a basic, staring-you-in-the-face element that I think has been responsible for a certain moralistic ire that has greeted The Help. And that is this: Why, in 2011, at a moment when we have our first......

The Help

...The Help The Help is a movie that depicts the discrimination and prejudices against African-Americans in the late 1960’s. The main character begins to write a book from the viewpoint of the black maids who work, in harsh and unjust terms, for wealthy, upper class white couples. During the events of the film, we see that the maids are responsible for the entire upbringing of the white couple’s child(ren), and works under conditions that border on slavery. Now that we have a little background on the film, we will discuss the promotional poster. The teaser poster for the film is set against a warm, golden background. The title of the film, along with a quote, appears in a soft purple, simple text. There is no shadow or shading of any sort on the text, and helps create a simple cover for views that catches attention subtly, but doesn’t scream for notice-much like the pace of the film. The quote, “Change begins with a whisper,” is written in the same font as the title, and ties into the scene depicted below the text. That scene is of four women-two black maids standing to the left, and two white, upper class women sitting on a bench to the right. The two maids are dressed in bland maid outfits of a pale blue shade. Their shoes are old and worn and appear to be covered in dust. The look of their outfits implies poverty and low social class. One of the maids seems to be whispering into the ear of the other, tying in with the quote at the top. The other maid has her head......

...company and that have enabled it to remain competitive over the years and across markets in which it operates. I also seek to raise some of the drawbacks related to those approaches in terms of risk for the business. Practice of Market Orientation The practice of market driven marketing rests upon the core idea of generating and offering value to a particular target market better than competitors, which in turn will enable the company to grow and be successful.[1] Generally a market oriented strategy involves focusing on the buyer’s needs and determining the best means by which the consumer will be satisfied. As we will see in the next section, a market oriented strategy begins with identifying a particular target group within a segment and then focusing efforts in understanding and delivering value to that group to achieve customer satisfaction. This approach presents the challenge of actually identifying customer needs that can vary from being obvious and explicit to subtle and not actually expressed. The implication for marketers, seen within this framework, is to be able to anticipate and even to some extent be prepared to cater to needs that are not yet present, a process known as “creative marketing”.[2]...

Criminal law, rehabilitation for juveniles and punishment and reparation for adults is the main goal. ...they were charged with feeding, rearing and caring for their children. Theirs is an American story that is rarely told on any grand, meaningful scale—not one, at least, that defies stereotype and caricature. But recently, “The Help,” a film based on Kathryn Stockett’s bestselling book of the same name, became a cultural touchstone when two of its lead characters, both African-American maids in the then-staunchly segregated Mississippi, challenged viewers to walk their journey—to see, as lead protagonist, Abileen Clark, said, “what it felt like to be me.” To me, ‘The Help’ is this year’s most outstanding and socially relevant motion picture; Viola Davis’ quiet but powerful portrayal of Abileen made us all take notice of a historically invisible class of women and Abileen’s story, along with those of the other maids who rallied with her to tell it, remind us that when we speak, if only in a whisper, momentous things can happen. Of course, the movie, does not come without its controversy: while so many, myself included, questioned then embraced Stockett’s story and actresses Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer earned Academy Award nominations for their roles as the maids who conspired with a young white woman to canonize their life stories, others question why, 70 years after Hattie McDaniel won an Oscar for her portrayal as the affable, sassy slave maid Mammy in Gone With the Wind, Hollywood ushered to the screen a movie feting the Jim Crow subjugation of black women. What is......

The network has some special characteristics that offer some worthwhile lessons for the student. Answers to Review Questions 1. Given the fact that a project’s resource requirements are clearly spelled out in the project’s action plan, why are PMs so concerned with resource allocation? There can be a variety of reasons why resource allocation is of concern to the PM despite having a properly completed action plan. For example: o The action plan only lists general categories of resource requirements such as engineering, purchasing, marketing, and production. In these cases, the project manager must still arrange to get the specific resources (e.g., personnel) needed. o The action plan may only specify how much of the resource is needed and precedence between the activities relationships, it may not specify exactly when the PM will need these resources. o Although the action plan specifies the amount of a resource needed for a particular project, there may not be a mechanism in use that balances the load of resources across multiple projects. This can lead to conflicts and the creation of bottleneck resources. 2. Explain the difference between a project that has a fixed delivery day and one that has a fixed limit on resource usage.
