There are specific characteristics that must exist in order for a requirement to be considered a performance-based acquisition and each characteristic influences and shapes the others. One of the most important characteristics necessary for a performance-based service acquisition is the performance work statement. The performance work statement, commonly known to acquisition professionals as the PWS is defined as the following: a statement of work for performance-based acquisitions that describes the required results in clear, specific and objective terms with measurable outcomes.” The performance work statement is the backbone of a performance-based service contract because it is responsible for specifying the definitive expectations of work that is necessary for the successful performance of a contract. A Model of Service Classification Based on Consumer Needs

...A Model of Service Classification Based on Consumer Needs Service Operations Management Track FARIAS PEREIRA , Suzana Carla Doctoral student at Fundação Getúlio Vargas/EAESP Department of Administration of the Production and Operations CATTINI , Orlando Jr. Professor of Fundação Getúlio Vargas/EAESP Department of Administration of the Production and Operations Abstract Most of the literature and research on services focus on the characteristics that distinguish products from service. One of the topics to be improved is the service classification . Most service classifications do not consider the client’s needs as a crucial parameter either to the quality of the service or to the success of the strategy. This study presents a service classification outline and proposes a framework that takes the consumer needs into account. The dimensions considered in the classification model were defined through the analysis of the management literature and questionnaires answered by Brazilian marketing and operations specialists. 1-Introduction The main aim of establishing service typologies is to offer insights for the development of strategies (Lovelock, 1983). However, most classification models do not consider the clients’ needs, which is a crucial parameter considering the delivery of a quality service and the success of any strategy. The first models were defined based on operational aspects, under the service provider’s perspective (Cook et al, 1999; Mills and Margulies,...

Location-Based Services

...Have you ever wondered where you could find a great happy-hour bar recommended by your closest friends, or how far away you are from the nearest hotel and their website, or the nearest Latin American restaurant while you're on vacation? Location-based services allow you to access this information even when you are miles away from home. These services have a magnitude of uses in social networking, and they are largely accessible through mobile device networks. They use information on the geographical position of a mobile device and enable the user to find the nearest business or service. In addition, the combination of mobile apps and location-based services allows marketers to reach out to their customers to send them more targeted content. Not only do location-based services help the consumer, but they also help advertise the company through social media networks. Stating location is no longer just a form of showing the public what you have seen and where you have been. It is like a free advertisement or commercial for people that view that picture (instagram) or status (Facebook). It has created an extra column in the marketing aspect of the business both for future consumers as well as systems that try to adapt to the users preferences. Applications such as Foursquare, Wikitude, and Yelp are widely used by many people, but the Geographical Information Systems (GIS) community is still in search for the "killer app" that will become so widely used in society that......

Activity Based Costing in Service Industries

... Activity-Based Costing in Service Industries ACC 560 Strayer University April 21, 2016 Amanda Bryan Activity-based costing is the method of accounting which analyzes and identifies all of the activities performed on a product during production. It then assigns an indirect cost to the product with avoidance of direct cost to the activity. This accounting method helps allocate the cost of the product to the less arbitrarily in values as compared to the method of cost allocation. This method helps to reduce the products price. Cost accounting as it is also known was originally developed for the manufacturing industry. The service industry has adopted the method because it has proven useful in managing costs and increasing productivity. A service industry is one where no goods are produced. One modern example of a service industry is E-Commerce. E-Commerce is the electronic transfer of a transaction. Amazon has established itself as a leader in the E-commerce service industry. Jeff Bezos started Amazon in 1995. When it launched the company only sold books. “In the first month of its launch, Amazon had already sold books to people in all 50 states and 45 different countries. (D'Onfro, 2014)” Amazon was able to stay in business due to exploiting a loophole and thanks to an obscure lichen book always being out of stock. Distributors required order to be for at least ten books, but they didn’t have to receive that many. Whenever they had an order less than ten books,...
