Last Night’s Hour In The Office
An Informal Essay By Shoba Clare Daniels.
I have Wanted to write my friend for a while. I walked in to the office around 7:30, the office is buzzing with activity. To my right I see Uncle Brown busy with the service man fixing the printer which has been sending out of itself white sheets of paper with ziggy black lines, and gray smudges instead of the print job.
Beside him sits Mr. White on rose, incase your wondering all the computers have names and are networked. Rose is a girl, Zion the workhorse, Matrix is used for layout, and Blue moon, well that’s Uncle Brown’s personal computer and the rest of us only use it once in a blue moon. Mr. White multitasks as i observe him he is simultaneously; writing a letter to a client, talking on the phone, and sending an SMS on his mobile.
Although I didn’t notice when I first walked in the office, Steven is in the store room, singing cheerily a sad song, as he cleans the 4 by 6 room, counts the supplies and prepares the orders.
Matt is on Matrix Computer designing a webpage and as I walk by I see on the screen a quote which says “the secret of achievement is to not let what your doing get to you before you get to it”.
I notice the only computer left available is Zion I sit down, and open a word document to type a letter to my friend, before my fingers can touch the keyboard I hear Uncle Brown asking me to run some errands for him, I leave to finish the errands, and return in 5 minutes.
Once again I sit down and reach for the keyboard I begin, “Dear Friend,” before I can add to these two words the phone rings, Mr. White sends me running to call John. After I search the whole place for him, I find out he is on the roof, I breathlessly run up the roof stairs and call him.
I walk slowly down the stairs and return to the letter I am trying desperately to start. I type rapidly writing a few paragraphs about life, and recent happenings. I notice Mr. White calling my name, and realize he wants me to move a file for him as for some reason the network on the computer is not letting him access it. With a few swift copy and paste moves I place it on the Rose Computer Desktop.
Turning back to my letter, the computer it seems cold and unresponsive, now what, I inwardly sigh! As I feverishly begin pressing on various buttons to confirm that my computer is FROZEN. Everything I try proves that it is frozen. And oops I didn’t save my file...hmm! As I tell the computer to restart, it informs me “shutting down will result in you losing unsaved information.” Just when i think it can’t get worse, the office is plunged into darkness.
Thank God not every night is as bad as Last Night’s , Hour in the office.…...

Midsummer Night's Shit

...in a midsummer night's dream women are portrayed as characters that will do almost anything for love, even when they are not under a spell. the women characters in this play are shown to be very gullible, and are all greatly effected by the love spell. women are manipulated a lot in this play. friendships built upon more solid foundations crumble when attacked by the artillery of petty jealousies or when undermined by misunderstandings, which creates a complicated portrayal of women and their relationships with one another that cannot be understood in one specific way. Shakespeare wanted to convey regarding the nature of female passions and affections, not only as they affected women, but also as they impacted women’s relationships with men. The friendships and relationships of women in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by Shakespeare are important to the plot and even the general structure of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by Shakespeare. One of the most interesting representations of the friendships of women in A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Shakespeare can be seen in the conflict between Titania and her husband, Oberon. This is occasioned by the fact that both the wife and the husband want to retain possession of a young Indian boy who has been placed in Titania’s care. Titania does not want to give up the boy because she has, as she states in one of the important quotes from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by Shakespeare, “never had so sweet a changeling” (II.i.23); for this reason,......

Midsummer Night's Dream

...A Midsummer Night's Dream Genre Comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream is a classic example of Shakespearean comedy. What, you don't believe us? We'll prove it to you. We've got a checklist that details all the typical conventions and features of the genre so you can see for yourself: Light, humorous tone: Check. The play features fairy magic (like Oberon's love potion), silly pranks (like the transformation of a guy's head into that of a jackass), and the botched performance of a play-within-the-play by a bunch of wannabe actors. Need we say more? Clever dialogue and witty banter: Check. Shakespeare is a huge fan of punning and snappy wordplay, so naturally, his characters know how to get their witty repartee on. Shakespeare reserves some of the best dialogue for his warring lovers, especially Oberon and Titania, and even the "rude mechanicals" manage to wow us with their clever banter. Deception and disguise: Let's see…Hermia and Lysander try to sneak away from Athens to elope (behind Egeus's back). Also, Titania and the young lovers have no idea they've been drugged by Oberon and his magic love juice. So, check. Mistaken identity: Check. Sort of. In most of Shakespeare's other comedies, someone usually runs around in a disguise to mask his or her identity. (Sometimes, a lover is even tricked into sleeping with the wrong person by mistake.) This isn't necessarily the case in A Midsummer Night's Dream, unless we count the fact that the love juice causes Titania to fall......

DNA tests have revealed that Dolly is identical to the ewe who donated the udder cell and is unrelated to the surrogate mother. “It will enable us to study genetic diseases for which there is presently no cure” said Dr Ian Wilmut, Embryologist. | Embryologist Dr Ian Wilmut, from the Roslin Institute, said: "It will enable us to study genetic diseases for which there is presently no cure and track down the mechanisms that are involved." The research, published in Nature magazine, follows the Edinburgh team's success in cloning sheep embryos. Last year they produced two identical sheep, which were clones of an original embryo. The company which has bought the rights to the research, PPL Therapeutics, said Dolly would help to improve understanding of ageing and genetics and lead to the production of cheaper medicines. US President Bill Clinton has set up a special task force to investigate cloning in order to examine the legal and ethical implications. http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/february/22/newsid_4245000/4245877.stm...

Divine Office

...Traditional Roman Breviary By the end of the 5th century, the Liturgy of the Hours was composed of seven offices. Of these seven, Compline seems to have been the last to appear, because the 4th century Apostolic Constitutions VIII iv 34 do not mention it in the exhortation "Offer up your prayers in the morning, at the third hour, the sixth, the ninth, the evening, and at cock-crowing".[7] An eighth office, Prime, was added by Benedict of Nursia in the 6th century. These eight are known by the following names, which do not reflect the times of the day at which in the second millennium they were traditionally recited, as shown by the use of the word "noon", derived from Latin (hora) nona,[8][9] to mean midday, not 3 in the afternoon: * Matins (during the night, at midnight with some); also called Vigils or Nocturns or, in monastic usage, the Night Office * Lauds or Dawn Prayer (at Dawn, or 3 a.m.) * Prime or Early Morning Prayer (First Hour = approximately 6 a.m.) * Terce or Mid-Morning Prayer (Third Hour = approximately 9 a.m.) * Sext or Midday Prayer (Sixth Hour = approximately 12 noon) * None or Mid-Afternoon Prayer (Ninth Hour = approximately 3 p.m.) * Vespers or Evening Prayer ("at the lighting of the lamps", generally at 6 p.m.) * Compline or Night Prayer (before retiring, generally at 9 p.m.) This arrangement of the Liturgy of the Hours is attributed to Saint Benedict. However, it is found in Saint John Cassian's Institutes and......

...Bacillus cereus- This bacterium is found in foods like cereals, soil and dust. When you are suffering from food poisoning from this bacterium the common symptoms are pain, diarrhoea and vomiting but subside within about 24 hours. These can be stopped by avoiding having to reheat cooked rice. How can the risk of infection with Bacillus cereus be minimised? Keep prepared foods under refrigeration (5°C) until you are ready to serve. Keep hot foods at a temperature greater than 60°C.Try to avoid preparing foods too far in advance. For heated products that are going to be eaten at a later time ensure that the product is correctly cooled after cooking. The Food Standard Code requires food businesses to cool the food: From 60°C to 21°C within two hours, and From 21°C to 5°C within a further four hours. Cooling cooked food in shallow containers, with good airflow around each container, will help achieve this. Wash hands with hot soapy water and dry thoroughly before preparing food. Keep utensils and kitchen clean. Campylobacter- This is found in raw poultry and meat, milk and animals including pets. Symptoms include diarrhoea which is often bloody. When you suffer from food poisoning due to this bacterium the symptoms are diarrhoea, cramps, a fever and vomiting this could last from 2 to 10 days. This can be stopped by always cooking meat especially poultry, to safe minimum temperatures. Keep raw meat, especially poultry, separate from other food and don’t drink raw or......

The Hours

...Comparative essay (incomplete) “An examination of a pair of texts reveals similarities in their concerns and their contexts” The last hundred years have been characterised by wide scale and extremely rapid change: both Modernism and early 21st century United States were shaped by extraordinary social, cultural and political upheaval. Virginia Woolf’s Mrs Dalloway (1925) and Daldry’s “The Hours” (2002) show overlapping and interwoven ideas that reveal their contextual concerns – decay of faith in authority (such as God, politicians and doctors), changing ideas about gender equality and sexuality, and how our perception of time shapes our lives. Both the novel and film convey these ideas through the appropriate techniques of the Modernist and Post Modern contexts. In Britain during the early 20th Century, and again in the USA late in the century, a declining belief in authority figures and religion was expressed in the work of many creative composers, as well as in Mrs Dalloway. Woolf expresses this shared belief through Septimus, and the conflicting values of Miss Kilman and Mrs Dalloway. In the introduction, the motor car with its unknown entity inside symbolising authority and upper class privilege slowly drives through the crowd of working and middle class. Woolf establishes the tendency of the upper class to float over the middle and working class, and their tendency to not connect with anyone of lower class which implies that they never really gain a clear......

Essay on "A Good Night's Sleep"

...Essay on “A Good Night’s Sleep” You know the feeling. You went to bed three hours ago, and yet you have not fallen asleep. Panic is starting to take control of your mind and the darkness seems like a never-ending struggle. It feels as if you are being choked. It all starts out as tiny, red dots. In the beginning they are nothing but dots. When you notice how harmless they are, they start forming patterns. Suddenly they are everywhere. Among all the red dots monsters start appearing. Your biggest fear is approaching you and there is nothing you can do to stop the horror. A skinny arm of an abandoned child reaches out to touch you and in that very moment – you awake. You are all sweaty and frightened. You know, you have not been sleeping nor been awake. You have been drifting off to sleep and started hallucinating. Just as George Lockhart from the story you have just read. “A Good Night’s Sleep” is a Scottish short story written by Brian McCabe and published in 1993. The story takes place in a tenement building in Edinburgh. The place of action is on the third floor where George Lockhart, the main character, lives. I think the social environment is middleclass. The people living in the building are at all ages and appearances. The story being told from an apartment creates a sense of claustrophobia, which does not get any less when you are told about the noises from the street. The short story is being told from a third person omniscient narrative. It seems as a very......

The Office

...Case Study # 1 – The Office Pina Meas University of La Verne The first mistake that John Mitchell made with the way he solved the problem of limited office spaces he was only seeing what he wanted to see. Mitchell was looking for information and interpreting them only in regards to his self-interest. Completely avoiding any information that would contradict his own. Mitchell is taking risk by making decisions with uncertainty focusing only on the goals he want to accomplish, but disregards the information that would show the alternatives and future event less than acceptable. Mitchell is making decisions base on assumptions even though the decision may be wrong as these decisions might produce bad outcome. With the possibility of failure being potentially high. Mitchell shows the characteristics of Ambiguity illustrated in Exhibit 9.1 from the textbook Management TWELFTH EDITION Richard L. Daft 2014 Vanderbilt University. The first sign shown by Mitchell was that he created an unclear issue with Krista Acklen with the intention of only the goal to be accomplished. Now not only are they limited to office spaces they are now creating conflict that would otherwise distract both parties from truly achieving their goals. The things that I would do different from Mitchell first, would be approaching Krista Acklen about the idea of sharing the limited office space that she is in charge of before deciding solely disregarding her inputs or thoughts. I would look......
