Running Head: Employees’ Perceived Gender

Effects of Employees’ Perceived Gender on Their Potential Earnings

Introduction Findings of the 2006 American Community Survey(ACS)reveals that salaries of American women are about 77.3% of that of American men with a similar level of education and are in the same occupational field. Why is that? Are they less educated or less talented? While the average global university enrolment ratio has gone from 160 men per 100 women in 1970 to today at around 93 men per 100 women, the above assumptions don’t seem to stand. So is it possible the underlying reason is as simple as that they are women? My study seeks to examine if a specific employee is perceived as a woman,she/he would be more likely to earn less and get fewer promotion etc. This hypothesis originates from the fact that women are even earning less than their male counterparts in female dominant occupations such as nursing. (Krisberg &Kim 2015). Methods To determine the relationship between gender and compensation decisions, male and female university students would be selected to represent employers. Participants would be divided into 3 groups and they would read descriptions about employees and rate their skills, personality, education, and etc and provide a reasonable compensation plan as if she/he is a employer. Descriptions would be like “X is an easy going person and likes networking with people from different industries. X knows how to use Excel, PowerPoint, Word.” The difference among those 3 groups is that in group one, X is a woman’s name such as Lizzie;in…...

...PAYOUT POLICIES ON NIFTY 50 COMPANIES (2000-2012) | RESEARCH PROPOSAL, BUSINESS RESEARCH METHODS | | 2/27/2013 2/27/2013 Abstract Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between Corporate Governance practices and corporate dividend policy in India. Design/methodology/approach: Data regarding ownership structure, dividend policies and board composition would be collected for 40 non-financial companies listed on National Stock Exchange in India. The period of investigation has been taken from 2000-2012. Regression models would be run to define the relationship and for estimation purpose. Potential Findings: Based on the some heuristics and back of mind observations it can be seen that board size and composition, extent of ownership of promoters, the amount of free float in the market, firm size and investment opportunities are positively and significantly associated with dividend policies and dividend payout decisions. On the contrary, there are some instances which show a negative relationship between profitability and dividend payouts indicating the need of reinvesting funds. A significant number of independent directors in the board also have an impact on the payout policies, albeit not a significant one. A number of positive NPV investment opportunities also bear a negative relationship with dividend payout as more money is retained to invest in these projects. The research study would help to empirically validate the above......

...Research Proposal Proposal for Research Topic The topic that I chose to research about is how technology is affecting people and how they interact with one another. More specifically though, I want to focus on the younger generation and children, and how their engulfment in the digital world is seriously affecting their physical relationships with family and friends. Now, to focus on children, family, friends, and how they are all being affected by the new and coming digital life is a decently broad topic. So, to limit my topic I will look closely at what questions and answers I can ask in regards to each of the above areas of research, and develop a tentative thesis. The preliminary research that I’ve conducted so far includes three articles; “How our digital devices are affecting our personal relationships”, “Children, technology, problems, and preferences”, and “Kids really are different these days”. The first of the three, entitled “How our digital devices are affecting our personal relationships”, brings to attention the fact that everyone nowadays is getting really caught up in recent technologies, and it goes on to discuss how such a strong involvement in technology is negatively affecting our personal relationships. Furthermore, the article mentions how the presence of cell phones reduces many vital factors in maintaining strong relationships with friends and family, including trust, closeness, and empathy. The second article, entitled “Children, technology,......

...Research Question: Can job performance be predicted linearly by a combination of grip strength and arm strength? Dependent Variable: SIMS Independent Variables: GRIP, ARM The dependent variable SIMS is determined by independent variables GRIP and ARMThe most important independent variable in this relationship seems to be ARM because the data seems to be moved more by the change in ARM than in it does by the change in GRIP. | | SIMS (simulations) is the dependent variable in this experiment. A simulation is defined as a way to model random events, such that simulated outcomes closely match real-world outcomes. By observing simulated outcomes, researchers gain insight on the real world (Simulation of Random Events, 2014). The simulations in this case required that the participant exert force on a simulated wrench while assuming standing and a kneeling position. GRIP (grip strength) is one of the independent variables in this experiment. Grip strength is defined as the measurable ability to exert pressure with the hand, fingers, or both. It is measured by having a patient forcefully squeeze, grip, orpinch dynamometers; results are expressed in either pounds or kilograms of pressure. (Mosby's Medical Dictionary 8th Edition, 2009) ARM (arm strength) is the other independent variable in this experiment. Arm strength is easily defined as the strength of your arm. Strength is defined as creating muscular tension (Hargrove, 2011). In this experiment, GRIP and......
