Human Resource Management Overview

Human Resource Management Overview
Human Resource Management is commonly in larger companies. Human Resource Management (HRM) is the function within an organization that focuses on recruitment, management, and providing direction for the people who work in the organization. HRM is the organizational function that deals with issues related to people such as compensation, hiring, performance management, organization development, safety, wellness, benefits, employee motivation, communication, administration, and training (Heathfield, 2013). HRM is also a strategic and comprehensive approach to managing people and the workplace culture and environment. An effective HRM enables employees to contribute effectively and productively to the overall company direction and the accomplishment of the organization's goals and objectives. HRM must also develop mechanisms that will help multicultural individuals work together. As background, language, custom, or age differences become more prevalent, employee conflict is likely to increase. HRM must make every effort to acclimate different groups to each other, finding ways to build teams and thus reduce conflict (DeCenzo & Robbins 2007).
Primary Function of Human Resource Management Human resource management’s primary goal is to improve the contribution of the employees to benefit both the company and the employee. This goal is complicated and always changing as the needs of the workforce and the organization change. According to (DeCenzo & Robbins, 2007), HRM has two primary responsibilities: assisting the organization in its strategic direction and representing and advocating for the organization’s employees success. Human resource management has many additional functions such as:

- Recruiting and Hiring
- Training and position development
- Motivation, compensation, and retention
HRM must also serve the organization by determining lowest-cost strategies to its HRM practices. It must look for ways to reduce personnel costs and find more effective means of offering employee amenities ((DeCenzo & Robbins, 2007). Each of these functions is an important piece to a company’s day-to-day operations as well as their success.
HRM and Strategic Planning Specifically, when an organization plans strategically, it determines its goals and objectives for a given period of time. Human resource management, or HRM, plays an integral role in the strategic planning process of any organization. The HR department oversees a variety of essential business practices which have the potential to impact the organization as a whole. HRM is perhaps one of the most essential pieces of any strategic planning initiative. Strategic planning generally begins with a mission statement that defines what the organization does and why. According to (Webster, 2013), the purpose of most strategic planning initiatives is to align the day-to-day activities of the organization with this mission statement. There are three main focuses when dealing with strategic implementations:
HRM typically oversees the hiring and firing of employees and can have a major impact on an organization's strategic planning initiative. HRM then develops best practices for recruiting the right employees to meet these needs.

Employee Development Employee development is commonly identified as a key factor in meeting organizational goals that are set during the strategic planning process. Training and development is often needed to ensure workers have the necessary skills to advance the organization's core competencies.
The retention of high-quality workers is a goal of many strategic planning initiatives. HRM should develop and implement systems designed to calculate the costs of turnover to the organization and determine acceptable retention numbers that must be met to align HR with organizational strategies.
Human resource management refers to the people whose knowledge, skills, and abilities are utilized to create and deliver the product and service. This resource is considered to be an organization’s greatest resource. Human resource management’s primary goal is to improve the contribution of the employees to benefit both the company and the employee. Addition functions include: Hiring/recruitment, training/development, and motivation/retention. There are three areas where plans are developed for effectively utilizing the human resource. The human resource strategic plan identifies how to: attract the right types and numbers of people; develop the knowledge, skills and abilities of employees; and, retain the employees within the organization. HRM is vital for the overall success of an organization in today’s economy especially with new technology and growing markets.

300 Movie

...300 Jonathan Hewitt ENG 225 Cicely Denean-Cobb October 2, 2012 The film I have chosen to do my critique on is Zack Snyder’s 300. 300 is a film about King Leonidas, the King of Sparta, and his 300 Spartan warriors who all stood up against the God-king Xerxes and his massive Persian army from annihilation. After watching the film very closely for my critique I believe there is a serious underlying theme that everyone has the right to be free and sometimes you have to stand up and make sacrifices to keep your freedom. Standing up for freedom is never an easy task as shown in 300 but, everyone deserves to be free. In discussing the storytelling, acting, cinematography, editing, sound, style and directing, the impact of society on the film, genre, a formalist approach to analysis, and the overall textual theme of 300 I will attempt to back up my belief. Storytelling 300’s narrative structure is the first-person point of view of Dilios, a Spartan solider under the command of King Leonidas. The film is presented in chronological order and takes place in Sparta and Thermopylae, Greece. The major conflict in the film is that the Persian army has come to Sparta and requests their submission or will kill them and enslave their women and children. King Leonidas makes the decision to stand up to the Persians but; is not allowed to go to war with the Xerxes, the Persian God-king, because the Ephors deny him the right. The Ephors are later found out to be traitors. Unfortunately,...

300 the Movie

...300 tells the story of the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C. Persians, under the rule of King Xerxes, have already taken over some of the Greece city-states, and now threaten Sparta and Athens. King Leonidas of Sparta is left with two options: he will either have to sacrifice himself for the well-being of Sparta or watch it burn to the ground. The plot revolves around King Leonidas played by Gerard Butler, who leads his best 300 Spartans into battle. One of my favorite lines in the film is from King Leonidas. He is approach by a Persian messenger with an offer from King Xerxes to surrender. Leonidas rejects the offer and yells "This is Spartans" before killing the messenger. At that moment I truly connected with the character King Leonidas. Leonidas plan is to form a human shield in order to block the narrow passage of Thermopylae where King Xerxes intends to use in order to invaded Hellas (all so known as Greece). King Xerxes leads a Army of well over 170,000 men to Greece. Leonidas and his 300 are only accompanied by a few hundreds Arcadians. Out numbered King Leonidas still hold his ground and confronts King Xerxes and his army. Xerxes waited for a few days for King Leonidas to surrender or withdraw, but he didn't. Leonidas and his men taunted Xerxes. Killing his messengers and provoking and forcing the king to strike. Wave after wave of Xerxes men fell at the hands of the Spartans. For days the Persians fleet suffer in great loses, falling from 170,000 to about......

300 Review

...Tyler Faldet Extra Credit: Film Review Assignment Professor Debauche 11/12/2012 300 Review Over the weekend I happened to rent a few movies to watch with friends at my home back in Iola Wisconsin. I also had hopes that one of them would give me a lot of information, along with motivation, to write a review on using the different concepts that we have talked about in class. So way back in 2007 the American film 300, directed by Zack Snyder, and staring popular film stars such as Gerald Butler, and Lena Headey, brought millions and millions of mainly young and old men to the theaters. I personally remembered when it came out because everyone at school was talking about how amazing it was and quoting some of the lines from the film. And even with its popularity, I never did get the opportunity to watch the film, until this weekend. The General Plot of the movie is narrated by a Spartan soldier Dillios, who narrates the story from king leonidas's boy hood through the sacrifice of the 300 Greek Spartan soldiers, which sparked the war against the advancing Persian "immortals". Previous knowledge of the movie from what I had heard from others who had seen it was that it is a war movie based on a true Greek story many hundreds of years ago. Soon into the movie I realized it was completely different from what I had envisioned it would be in my mind going in. This difference was definitely for the better and my expectations were completely blown away. The whole style......

300 Summary

...I gave a four-star rating to "Sin City," the 2005 film based on a graphic novel by Frank Miller. Now, as I deserve, I get "300," based on another work by Miller. Of the earlier film, I wrote prophetically: "This isn't an adaptation of a comic book, it's like a comic book brought to life and pumped with steroids." They must have been buying steroids wholesale for "300." Every single male character, including the hunchback, has the muscles of a finalist for Mr. Universe. Both films are faithful to Miller's plots and drawings. "300," I learn, reflects the book almost panel-by-panel. They lean so heavily on CGI that many shots are entirely computer-created. Why did I like the first, and dislike the second? Perhaps because of the subject matter, always a good place to start. "Sin City," directed by Robert Rodriguez and Miller, is film noir, my favorite genre, taken to the extreme. "300," directed by Zack Snyder, is ancient carnage, my least favorite genre, taken beyond the extreme. "Sin City" has vividly- conceived characters and stylized dialogue. "300" has one-dimensional caricatures who talk like professional wrestlers plugging their next feud. The movie involves a legendary last stand by 300 death-obsessed Spartans against a teeming horde of Persians. So brave and strong are the Spartans that they skewer, eviscerate, behead and otherwise inconvenience tens of thousands of Persians before finally falling to the weight of overwhelming numbers. The lesson is that the......

The 300

...I would like to start off with the title of the movie “300.” The fact that movie insinuates that there were 300 Spartans that went up against 300,000 Persians is not 100 percent true in itself. In the film it is omitted that the Spartans were also accompanied at Thermopylae by as stated by Herodotus in his Histories - “500' (men) 'from Tegea, 500 from Mantinea, 120 from Orchomenus in Arcadia ... from Corinth there were 400, from Philus 200, and from Mycenae 80. In addition to these troops from the Pelopennese, there were the Boeotian contingents of 700 from Thespiae and 400 from Thebes. The Locrians of Opus and the Phocians had also obeyed the call to arms, the former sending all they had, the latter one thousand.” I think the reason it was made to look like just 300 men took on an army of 300,000 Persians and was almost successful, because this was a Hollywood movie and 300 vs 300,000 sounds that more dramatic and interesting. Another thing that I noticed is that the movie never really established why Xerxes has set out on this massive conquest in the first place in the film. The Ionian revolt is not mentioned at all and neither is the First Persian War which is strange in the fact that some aspect of background is usually incorporated into a film as to give the viewer a more in depth understanding of the nature of the film and its themes. Personally, I assumed he was trying to expand the Persian Empire. However this is fairly understandable as the film can be perceived as......
