IIMA FDP Alumni Conference - Ethics & CSR 20-21 December 2013 It was a tremendous experience as well as a proud feeling to be a part of IIM-A FDP Alumni Conference, like “A sea meeting to a river” The fog was being cleared by many highly learned and extremely experience personalities during these two days with their innovative approach which I felt glad to be present with them. Especially the words spoken by Padmashree K. Ramkrishna Rao sir were very touching. The way he tried to explain the complex topics, briefly with a common way that was really phenomenal. I learned about human values and their basic responsibility towards society with the help of gandian studies or believe we can say. I think that human values plays a significant role in ethics. The informative words shared by prof. G.Subramanyam sir on how the ethics and social responsibility simultaneously determine the organization image as well as affects the industry .which was really a learning experience especially what things are happen around us we must be aware of that like how “SATYAM” has almost destroyed its image because of unethical practices done by them which even badly affected the software industry.  Challenges in managing non-profit and social enterprises: Chair: primal sir and The panel was shared by ravi sir and rani man. Really it’s a challenging job to run a non-profit or a social enterprise. What I felt out of discussion is that running a social enterprise is even difficulty job compared to NGOs, because one of the major reason is people prospect toward these organizations and political interference. The discussion was very healthy and practical because it has covered all related issues.  Learning’s:  The present youth should lead from front to bring a change in society.  Negative forces will be affecting, but positively we have to lead.  Glorifying social responsibility: who are agents and why they do it? on the above topic a paper was presented by Vanay Changati, basically according to his research what he tried to share is why organizations are in a hurry to win awards and who are the agents awarding those companies and why?

He came with a conclusion that companies invest huge sum to get registered for winning awards and he wanted to know can’t be a company social responsible without winning awards.  Learning’s  As we know that the current generation deals with number only. It’s been a practice that we judge, rate; adopt a company on basis of the number of awards they won.  There may me companies equally social responsible even more without wining award but the “water is above nose level”. Who is going to understand the fact? That’s reason awards become universal accepted eligibility criteria.  At the same wining an award also it’s not a cup of tea.  CSR and social entrepreneur : issues, discussion and challenges This was presented by KIIT Delegates, basically they tried to draw a comparison among top business house at home and at worldwide its been a nice experience to gather information on such topics.  Learning’s  As we to know that an action can be illegal but morally right. And an action that is legal can be morally wrong. There is every possibility that the entrepreneur will face above dilemma they have to prioritize.

 Why do information system fail  ‘Too much greed and over innovative ideas to earn super profit tend to “IS” failure”  Lack of basic knowledge  People lack in proper communication  Inefficiency in decision making  Gap between top management and bottom management The reasons have to considered to avoid IS failure as stated by prof. V.Venkat Rao

 Hybrid business modal and social business models Actually this presentation was presented by prof. Anand Jaiswal though it’s a ongoing research work he covered to the fullest extent. As we know that business Is for business we do business. So what he tried to explain is there should be model where the entrepreneurs can focus simultaneously on profit

and to meet society needs. He tried to compare apollo with sankar netralaya on different parameters. He explained about Yusuf idea with a rectangular diagram Learning’s
 Now this high to adopt hybrid modals because it will have good impact on business environment too.  its not about the end results but we should focus on means.  Human values plays a vital role to adopt hybrid modal  CSR : mandatory or voluntary  CSR is a business process rather it’s a duty.  Can producing negative product and CSR go hand in hand?  There were many issues suggested by panel members to be discussed at government level.  Every business has to give back what they take from mother earth.  Business is within society , should be remembered  Regarding CSR mandatory rule there are some changes expected and it should be voluntarily done by corporate Genuinely it was heartfelt discussion by leben Johnson and delegate from Mr. SAMMER pepsi and from CSR field prof. Zakir Mulla  The role of diversities in ethics and social responsibility Diversities too plays a vital role in ethics in human being and in business

 The most liked presentation was about “rewarding and ethics” Though uma mam finished her presentation concisely but it was like effective documentary films Mam the reason why I liked is as you sated in your presentation that psychology has proven that rewards Motivates the best but there should be a limit.

“I believe people those who convert their words into action”
“Mam we had a discussion after conference you told that the students those who are present during 2nd session, I m going to give 1 mark for sure” mam your words motivated me ,and your way of rewarding for sincerity touched my heart. Mam as shared examples like HCL rewarded with

15Mercedes. And few companies give 95% of salaries

of total salaries to top management employees and rest to lower level. Like wise you have told I will give one mark more than other student but you did not say like that you rewarded us only without discrimination.

Thank you very much mam for organizing such a conference which made all to think that what GITAM can’t do? M V V N MURTY 1225113225 MBA “B” (2013-15)…...

An Experience

...English 101 Lincoln’s Challenge Everyone has certain moments in their lives that have a lasting impression. Some people get a new job, meet fascinating new people, or get married. The experience that made an impression, even changed my life was going to Lincoln’s Challenge Academy. This academy was one of many big changes in my life. The benefits of this academy will help me through the difficult trials of life that I will face in the years to come. Lincoln’s Challenge was a place for “troubled” teens to obtain a GED and get discipline. It was a military-based school in Rantoul, Illinois. Young adults from the ages of sixteen to eighteen would come there, voluntarily, to change their mischievous behavior. Last year I dropped out of MacArthur High School and enrolled in the academy. I was a junior when I left the high school, and I was truly scared out of my wits. What I had heard about Lincoln’s Challenge Academy, or LCA, were not too pleasant. I knew my past wasn’t the best, but from what I had heard from a few friends the other teens that were going to attend were going to be much worse. When I arrived at LCA in January, I was absolutely terrified. I didn’t want to leave the comfort of my home, parents, friends, or especially my bed! What made matters worse was that I would have to gone for six months without my phone! However, the promise of two three-day breaks in March and April and family visits every Sunday made the knot in my stomach shrink a little bit. When......

For some patients, the preoperative period may last for months, during which testing and other procedures may be done. For an emergency, such as an appendectomy, the preoperative period may last only a few hours. During the preoperative phase, preadmission testing is done to assess health history, family medical history, and any known allergies to medications. During which time explanation of the surgical procedure and patient education is taking place. Patient education advises the patient on pre-surgical preparation such as bowel preparation, nutritional and fluid intake the day before the procedure and when to stop eating, and how to proceed with medication therapy the day before surgery. Diagnostic testing includes ECG monitoring, blood testing and vital signs. The trauma of surgery can greatly be relieved by psychological preparation of the patient before surgery, so during preadmission testing psychological evaluation is also taking place to assess the patient for any fears or anxiety related to the surgical procedure. The nurse should discuss techniques to aid physical recovery and ways to lessen the pain and anxiety......

Religious Experience

...RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCE A2 Philosophy of Religion What is Religious Experience? • A religious experience is a non-empirical occurrence and may even be perceived as supernatural • It can be described as a “mental” event which is undergone by an individual and of which that person is aware. • Such an experience can be spontaneous or it may be brought about as a result of training and self-discipline. • Recipients of religious experiences usually say what has happened to them has drawn them into a deeper knowledge or awareness of God. • It is very important to remember that the experience itself is not a substitute for the Divine, bit a vehicle that is used to bring people closer to the Divine. • The experience that each individual has is absolutely unique and cannot be shared with anyone. • Finally, genuine religious experiences seem to be encouraging, they do not condemn the individual, but help them to live a better life or, for example, to help others. Arguments from Religious Experience from William James. The most famous commentator on Religious Experience is William James (1842 – 1910) He recognised that the term mystical is used in a wide variety of contexts but suggested that using it to refer to “any person who believes in thought transference and spirit return” is far too ambiguous. His famous work “The Varieties of Religious Experience”, published in 1902 includes his categorisation of the four characteristics which, he claims, will enable us to...

The Movie Experience

...The Movie Experience Word Count: 601 Movies should be treated as a luxury commodity, meant to invoke feelings and thoughts that otherwise would have been left dormant and untouched. From comedies that bring you joy to sci-fi thrillers that keep you up at night, movies obtain their value by how successful they can engage their audience. While much of this is dependent upon the movie itself, where you experience it can play a vital role in your idea of its success. Comfort and affordability underscore the movie-at-home scenario, but these things do little to enhance the primary purpose of the movie. Where that sense of feeling and connection to the movie are important to the person watching it, the movie theater will always offer the most superior experience. A substantial difference between watching a movie at home and in the theater is the environment itself. When you're at home, you're surrounded by familiarity and distraction. You give yourself permission to be interrupted by normal day-to-day activities, such as the dog or your cellphone. In the theater, you don't allow yourself such freedoms. Though you're also provided more control over your environment when you're at home, there is something captivating about being in the movie theater. It is difficult to reproduce the audiovisual characteristics of a theater. Movie theaters, by definition, place all of their emphasis on the movie experience as a whole, and thus do well to exemplify the movie with excellent......

The Experience

...The Experience Your arrival to the residence starts with you examining a house that is physically well-kept. A beige house with tan shutters, and landscaping throughout the yard that is reminiscent of a magazine cover. The sound of a bird’s chirping, and bumblebees buzzing in the summertime, makes you feel warm. You walk up to our home feeling a sense of welcoming. When you finally walk into our house, the experience begins. The captivating smell transports you into another dimension. My mother loves to cook, and the aroma of spices and vegetables simmering in a pot leaves a strong impression throughout the home. The sound of a cook hard at work distracts you with clanging, chopping, and shaking of her tools. The warmth of the air with these sweet aromatic smells makes you feel invited and happy to be there. Upon entering you will also meet our dogs. They are very pleased to greet you, but all guests must first be approved by man’s best friend. Their submissiveness is very playful, and it is always customary to give a scratch or pat on their head. Both dogs wag their tails in excitement and with their tongue hanging out of their mouth they pant from the affection. The house is bright and airy with photographs of memories hanging about the walls. Strategically placed, every picture has a purpose in its occupied space. Mirrors enlarge the room, thereby giving the illusion the room is quite spacious. The softness of the chairs makes you feel right at home when you......

Sales and Experience

...Lisa Miller February 9, 2014 Homework 5 Intro to Business POSITIVE EXPERIENCE I have had a wonderful experience when I purchased my vehicle almost three years ago. That seems a little bit odd huh? You don’t usually hear people say that had a wonderful experience from a car salesman when purchasing a vehicle. In fact, there are five things that you should know about a car salesman that a lot of people do not know about ( The first thing you should know about is he needs you more than you need him. This just simply means that he makes you feel like you can’t possible buy a car on your own and that you need him to hold your hand through the process. In reality, he needs you. A car salesman works on commission, so if he is not selling any vehicles, he cannot pay his bills or rent. So, keep in mind, that car salesman needs your business more than you need him. He is just a small fish in a big pond and there are many more options than just that one salesman or dealership. The second thing you should know about is he is really not in control, you are. They are trained to know how to play the field. He makes it seem like he has control of the entire situation and you must go along with it. That is definitely not the case. You, as the customer, have the right to say no to his offers if it is not what you are looking for. You should never settle for anything less than what you want. The next thing you should know about is, no matter what he says or does,......

Growth and Experience

...For Heaney it is the small events of the past that are the windows to the present. (Growth and Experience) Seamus Heaney often makes a connection between the past and the present, to explore human growth and experience in his poetry. In poems such as Punishment, The Tollund Man, and Death of a Naturalist, Heaney draws on the past to explore contemporary conflicts such as the Irish Troubles and the maturation of humans in general. Through his use of metaphors representing the problems of the past, the reader gains an insight into the bigger picture of human nature, and what changes throughout time. Human growth and experience is a main concern in Heaney’s ‘Death of a Naturalist’. In this poem Heaney explores the transition from innocence to experience acquired with age, and how this personal growth changes the speaker’s views in life. The language used by the speaker in the first stanza such as ‘mammy’ and ‘daddy’ connotes the innocence of the child at the beginning of the poem. His selection of words also had this effect, words like “bubble” and “butterflies” that the speaker talks about also evoke happiness and pleasure associated with a young innocent child. There is also a break between the two verses of the poem and the second stanza begins with the word ‘then’. This particular word signifies the change in the child, both in age and in mentality. The line “I ducked through hedges to a coarse croaking that I had not heard before,” also suggests a change in the......

...Valuing Life 10/3/2012 By: Lisa Graham-Jones Instructor: Professor Wright Or Life is precious and shaped by many different experiences along the way. What if you were unable to experience this thing we call life? If the hands could turn back time and your mother decided not to let you live, but instead destroy your life before being able to experience the world we know of today? Many bypass this thought process when considering abortion. Women instead think of themselves and their situation when debating the option of abortion. Life is valuable period. Regardless of whether there are good outcomes of abortion, or negative outcomes of abortion, I am against abortion. Regardless of what is going on in life, women know that the only way to not get pregnant is through the choice of abstinence, but they still choose to have sex. With this being a problem it makes abortion look really evil due to careless and selfish choices that women are making today. Abortion has been overthrown and battled in many courts with different cases and the procedure of abortion has granted because the right of the constitution protects the choices that women make with the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendment. The constitution protects the rights of women in many different ways including the choice of what women want to do with their bodies. These three amendments make abortion legal and create a bigger problem of diminishing this evil operation for the fact that abortion has been approved by......

Learning Experiences

...Learning Experience Paper Nixon Merassaint PSY/103 December 1, 2014 Tricia Ferre There is really no right or wrong answer when it comes describing how or why particular foods or smells moves someone emotionally. The emotion occurs for one reason or another. The ethnic background of an individual can play a part in the experience or emotion. For example being a Haitian the smell of white rice, beans and turkey being cooked brings a since of being back in Haiti among family and friends. Another smell that brings a sense of emotion is when coffee is being brewed regardless of what time of the day, it makes you want to drink it. The smell makes an individual feel alive and well. These types of foods bring comfort and remembrance of family such as grandparents who have past. In a Haitian household the foods and smells are what brings families and friends together and can make an individual stop and remember their childhood. It may not be truly understood how or why foods or smells bring the emotion that it brings all that can really be determined is that it does and in some cases it brings about a peace. Teaching Experience

...Community Teaching Experience Grand Canyon University: NRS-427V-0501 July 11, 2013 Community Teaching Experience Health education is considered to be one of the major functions of community nurse; it is a great responsibility that requires the nurse to think critically. No longer are the nurses simply accountable for administering medications and following doctors’ orders. In essence, the nurses are also educators that play a very crucial role in health promotion and assuring that the public is taking preventive measures. Although, public speaking isn’t my best attribute, I strongly believe it is integral part of nursing; as it is one of the avenues via which the nurse enables the client to make informed decision regarding one’s health practices and lifestyle choices. While obesity has become a priority healthcare issue of our nation; nurses, as community educators, share a critical role in increasing awareness of obesity and its detrimental effects. The emphasis should be focused on educating the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, such as healthy diets, and incorporating daily physical activity regimen. The importance of healthy lifestyle choices should be addressed to people of all ages. The public must be encouraged to develop more physically active routine and reduce their dietary intake of processed, high calories, high fat foods and highly sweetened beverages. Epidemiological Rationale Obesity has become a major health concern, and the numerous......

...Experience Paper A visit to the Cloisters Museum The Creative Voice Experience. Practical contact. Observation of facts. We live in a “soft” world where the greater percentage of the arts are viewed through some type of electronic device with a screen and usually muddled with banners of advertisements or endorsements. We view static images on screens where texture and brush strokes could never be appreciated. We watch videos of classic Shakespearian plays devoid of the elements and senses of a live performance. True experience cannot be had remotely. Experience MUST be experienced! I decided to visit the Cloisters Museum and Gardens to reach outside my comfort zone and visit a place that I not only have never been to, but had also never heard of. The Cloisters is a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art that focuses on the art and architecture of medieval Europe. The museum is located in northern Manhattan and overlooks the Hudson River. That particular day was fairly warm with light rain. Upon entry into the museum my initial reaction was how cold and damp it was in comparison to the day. Because I had not been there before, I was initially most impressed with the structure more than the art itself. It is clear that people have gone to great lengths to recreate a structure that incorporates all of the elements of medieval times. I am by no means a historian and as a result I am usually stricken by something that appeals to me visually over its historical......

Residents (locals and migrants alike) should be more conscientious given the city’s state. Since this is the situation now, people might as well work on what is on hand rather than just sit and bewail the city’s gradual decay. Progress and increase in population is okay as long as the people also take into consideration the welfare of the place they live in, for it is also them who will reap whatever their actions’ outcomes are Conclusion: Strengthen the Baguio city and Burnham Park experience with the future development plan for Burnham Park and continue to take strategic tourism growth for other tourist destination of Baguio city....

I learned how to communicate and understand well what is customer service specially in food and beverage department. I have many chances of applying all I've learn in my alma matter, Bulacan State University. I became more responsible about regulations and follow every standard they have. I reminded my self that I'm not here to be lazy, but I'm here to prove my self I have an edge in this industry. I have realized that being punctual is more important than being industrious. For showing that you have that eagerness in the job your in, is being like you owned it. I have been a food attendant in both Hotels I've been into, The CAVA Bar and Restaurant and The Escolta. ...I am doing it now because finally I have enough experience working, I am more mature, and I have saved enough money. My goal in this essay is to help you understand why I am in Strayer University of Washington, DC to do my MBA. Before I explain my reasons, maybe I should explain why I am doing this now. Why now and why not before? I am doing it now because finally I have enough experience working, I am more mature, and I have saved enough money. The first reason that I want to do MBA in Washington, DC is move up in my career. I have not decided if I will be a manager or higher level position or if I want to start my business when I go back to Vietnam. But all of those need higher education. For example, at my most recent job as a sales manager for the bank, I had a monthly sales goal of ten to fifteen thousand dollars of new business each month. But my boss had twenty people in the team and a goal of nearly $250,000. Because of that, she was much more visible to management than I was. My job paid about $1200 a month. And that was very good for a person with a college degree in Vietnam, but the only way for me to make more is to move up in the bank. My boss made over $2500 per month, and her boss made almost $10,000 a month. I think most people could imagine the difference that doubling your salary would mean in a country like Vietnam. The second reason that I want to do MBA in Washington, DC is to make more money when I am back in Vietnam. Why do I want to make more......
