1. Determine how Five Guys’ philosophy sets it apart from other fast-food chains. No advertising is needed other than word of mouth for this all-American burger restaurant. I know from my own experience with Five Guys' how true this is. Going from a small town in West Virginia to Northern Virginia, all I heard was that I had to try a Five Guys' burger because there was nothing else like it. I had the luxury of going to one of the original store in Old Town Alexandria , VA. I did not think there was anything special about this restaurant since I had never heard or seen any advertising. Once in the door, I saw the walls covered in articles about how delicious Five Guys' top rated burgers were. At first it was odd to see the boxes of Idaho potatoes lining the window, and seeing the clean, simple décor of the restaurant and did not see what all the hype was about. Then, the simple menu of hamburger, cheeseburger, bacon burger, bacon cheeseburger, fries, grilled cheese or kosher hotdog did not gain my confidence, but after waiting several minutes, the burger came and with the first bite I understood what all the hype was about. From that first experience, my husband and I walked away with two certain things about Five Guys' burgers: 1. everyone that came to visit from out of town had to try a Five Guys' burger before they left and 2. one order of fries is all you need to order for a family of four. Just from my first time experience alone, one can see how Five Guys' philosophy of fresh goes a long way is true for this company. Their mission statement is simple, "we are in the business of selling burgers" and their company goals are just as simple, "to sell the best quality burgers possible, we focus on Quality, Service, and Cleanliness" (Byrne, 2013).
