Entertainment has shaped American culture in various ways. In my opinion it has influenced in a mostly negative way. Our culture now is more entertained by negative drama and news. For example, we are entertained by Bruce Jenner’s sudden change of gender more than we are about all the hungry kids around the world who cannot eat. We see “entertainment” such as that and allow our kids to see and idolize that kind of behavior. We see and hear what the majority of our population likes and for the most part it is all garbage. Take the music we listen too, such as, rap, hip hop, even reggaeton, which is pretty much Spanish rap. I can go on and on about the words and lyrics in most songs that are worshipped by many. In rap, hip hop, and reggae most of the lyrics discuss how they want to have relations with and disrespect many women, smoke, drink, and shoot people. This idea has become the new thing to sing about. They make it seem like if you become this type of person, you will be a “man” or idolized. Kids grow up wanting to become this way and most likely will end up in prison because of it. Kids used to grow up into church and discipline; with manners and respect. Now that all of that has been banned from schools, we don’t know as much as we used to. All we know as a culture is our electronics and the entertainment our world now has for us. Even our video games now have very bad messages for kids. I don’t feel that video games and music should have any effect on adults that are brought up right and know right from wrong; but I do feel that in the hands of a child, it can have a long term effect. Take the game, Grand Theft Auto, I would love someone to tell me how that game, in any way, can be educational for us as a culture. The only thing you can get from this game is how to rob people…...

...Entertainment Media and its Influences Heidi Ross HUM186 September 29, 2013 Dr. Rose Safir Entertainment Media and its Influences Entertainment media has shaped American Culture and its values in many ways. One of the ways is that media has educated many on how to be more healthy and to have a better lifestyle. It has also made people more creative, making them realize what culture is all about. We as a society is shaped by the ever changing entertainment industry. Our lives are all about what the celebrities are doing, wearing, eating, or who they are doing. Entertainment media is everywhere.   Entertainment media has many benefits and but has brought many challenges as well to American culture and has changed the way we interact with others. Throughout the many years of entertainment media, things have changed for the positive. I believe that with all of the changes, there has been mostly positive outcome from the media, but there has been some negative aspects as well. The television and radio helped to create our culture by having an impact on the way books, newspapers and magazines are designed and created. The television is one of the biggest influences on American families today. Children spend more time watching television and playing video games, therefore, spending less time interacting with others, which results in poor social and communication skills. Rosemond III HUM186 8/13/2013 Bernard Asubonteng Entertainment Media and Culture Entertainment media has always been a big influence on American culture and the rest of the world. It has shaped the way we dress, what kind of music we listen to and to some degree how we speak and act. There are even entire television shows in which are strictly dedicated to talking about celebrities and what is going on in his or hers life at the moment. This paper will go in depth as far as how entertainment media has impacted our culture. In the 1950’s television was known to shy away from the current political and other current events going on at the time and seemed to focus more on the standard American living lifestyle (University of Phoenix, 2012). These shows portrayed how a American should be and act, which in turn would inspire every day families in America to act the same way and live by the same values. Television in the 1960’s took a dramatic turn. In this decade politics were introduced and a lot more serious world events going on at that time. The assassination of President John F. Kennedy, the Vietnam War and the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. were just a few of the major events that were televised at that time. The Vietnam War depicted on the television the horrors of the war of children suffering and people being gunned down in the streets (2012). This in turn sparked the generation of “hippies”......

These three have been a staple or lifestyle in almost every American household. Motion pictures have been around since the early twentieth century. During this time movies were the most popular form of entertainment. Movie theaters continued to be the go to form of entertainment until the fifties, when the television came to be. Technology continued to progress and the movie industry used this to their advantage. Production costs for the films began to rise and as a result the movie industry stopped making low budget films. Every producer wanted to outdo the next and make the next big thriller. This allowed them to spend more on their efforts. The invention of the television was founded in 1920 but it was not granted acceptance until after World War II. Television programing grew rapidly in the 1950’s due to funding and it became commonplace. In the sixties color television began to arise although in the fifties shows were produced in color. Influence of Entertainment Media

...Influence of Entertainment Media Over the years, there have been many ways that various forms of entertainment media, like movies, and television has influenced American culture. All you have to do is to look at how our fashion, hairstyles, even the way we speak is influenced by entertainment media. Influences for entertainment media are all around us, and whether we want to or not we are influenced by them every day. Some major American values are individuality, privacy, time, and informality. You have the privacy to use all types of media in your home, car, or whatever place you choose to. People would have some kind of time to watch television, listen to the radio, or be on the computer because they are all offered twenty-four hours a day. All media in a way are informative, the radio, television, the internet, all have either a station or site solely for news. So, you are always being informed about something. The social influences of the entertainment media have been both positive and negative. People watch television for entertaining purposes but it spears that more and more society tries to be as those they watch on television as far as trying to dress, act, live and or impersonate them. Various forms of entertainment media has shaped American cultures and its values because there have been changes in the way that we communicate with one another. For example with television and music terminology and meanings of words have had their own form of communication developed. There is a new form of slang and jargon used to fit in with what people see and hear. Artists try to develop ways to interact and become accepted by their audience that they do not focus on the changes that they make or the reactions that will be caused. Television has been around for many years whereas the radio was first. When television was created there was picture to match sounds being heard. People were able to see what they were trying to envision before allowing them the opportunity to make changes to be like what they saw. How Environment Influence Culture

...Running Head: INFLUENCE OF CULTURE AND ENVIRONMENT How do culture and environment influence one’s life? Name University 1 INFLUENCE OF CULTURE AND ENVIRONMENT 2 Influence of culture and environment on one’s life It is believed that the primary connection between human beings and the world is their senses. It is what one perceives, touches, smells or hears that constitutes their later output. Information picked up by these senses is provided by one’s immediate environment. Moreover, every action taken or utterance made has a direct or indirect bearing with the culture in the surrounding. The activities one engages in and the conversations held with different individuals in this environment, all make up one’s daily life. This influence can occur in diverse ways (Sarte, 2008). One way in which environment can influence one’s life is through language. Different people come from various ethnic communities. Each ethnic community has a native language that it teaches its offspring. Depending on where one was born, and the first language learnt, people can exhibit different accents. For instance, someone born and brought up in the American neighborhood will speak in the same accent as the Americans, irrespective of their ethnic background (Sarte, 2008). However, if the person had been brought up in an African setting, his/her accent would have been different. These differences are especially evident when one learns a second language. This logic explains why Black Americans may...
