* For my paper I’d like to write about the ad “I Want You for the U.S Army.” I will explain how the ad itself created a feel in young men’s hearts about joining the military. Being drafted to serve your country may seem right, but it’s scary. The target audience was clearly too young men and older teens. The flyer shows an old man pointing his finger at you like he is your father, or a man that has a lot of authority with the American theme wardrobe. This created a feel that these men owe it to themselves, their family, and their country to serve in the war. * In my introduction I can talk about how the war created a feel around the country that made many feel responsible and take order to protect their country. The way the United States government promoted the war, was that of smarts and intelligent planning and orchestrating. The United States was in a deep recession, but after the war, the economy boosted and everyone was living great. But in order to achieve this, they had to go to war. What I mean is that the war was fought for the obvious reasons that we all know, in 1917 and 1918 we were facing with World War One. * In the description section, I can speak upon how the actual poster itself influenced so many to join the armed forces of the U.S.A. The poster was made in such a way that could intimidate someone, or somehow play a mind-trick that could scare you into helping your country. It makes you feel guilty and like you did something wrong and your father was mad at you. I completely believe the advertisement itself worked, with the goal being recruiting young soldiers wanting and willing to fight for their country. * I’m going to look at the audience in such a way that I would be explaining the influences of the poster on the lives of young men. The audience reading will be able to understand the feeling of the early 1900’s and…...

...staff that they acknowledge everyone they encounter.”(Planetree, 2012) I decided to focus on providing abundant information for one aspect of our project. Radiology departments are infamous for long wait times, and there were only dated magazines to choose from in our old waiting area. In an article about the opening of the Jay Moynihan Center for Gastrointestinal health in Upper Manhattan, The New York Times reports “A hospital’s own studies had shown that inferior waiting rooms topped the list of patients’ complaints about their care. Waiting should be more active.” (Karush Rogers, 2005) I discovered through conversations with the VA Medical Media Department that the team could order informative brochures describing radiologic procedures in lay terms. We could order as many brochures as we wanted to educate the patients at no cost to the department. These brochures are now handed to the patients when they check in for a procedure. For example, if you were going to radiology and you had a carotid ultrasound scheduled, upon check in you are given a brochure describing the carotid ultrasound. All of the procedures that are done at the VA Radiology have a matching brochure and they are all available for perusal in a rack in the waiting room. Many patients that come to radiology have little understanding of the procedures they are undergoing, and these brochures build a foundation for education...

...Informative Essay Eng. 112 AUG 24, 2011 Rome: A City Drenched in Ruin and Splendor “Ah! The aroma of ‘Roma-the Eternal City!” Rome, known as the Eternal City even among the ancient Romans themselves, was so called because the Roman people thought that no matter what happened to the world, no matter how many other empires might rise and fall, Rome would go on forever (4Information.com). Indeed, Rome is over three thousand years old and has been the center of the universe for most of those years; it is also the home to the Pope where he is known as the “Bishop of Rome.” “For those who have visited her, it is unquestionably the most magnificent city in the world. Like the memory of a lost love, she will haunt you, stealing your senses one by one while hastening your return. For those who have not yet experienced her magic, the thrill awaits… (Roman Homes Website)” Rome is one of the most ancient and mystifying cities, full of majesty and splendor because it is a place of myth, antiquity, and spectacle. Rome is a city full of legend, history, and wonder. Its history includes classical myths of vengeful gods, blatant foolishness of Roman emperors, Bacchanalian excess around Renaissance courts while fast-forwarding to pompous Fascism during the reign of Mussolini in the twentieth century. Emperors, Popes and dictators have been at the forefront of domestic and international battles as they stamped out heresies while crushing infiltrating foes. As legend goes,......

...Informative Speech Introduction 1. In the contemporary world, underage drinking has become a global phenomenon especially in the developed countries such as in the US. As a result, the Oklahoma State has taken various measures to curb the vice. This is the reason behind the enactment of the Underage drinking laws-Social Host Law. The law was enacted in order to; a) Minimize the circumstances that lead to death of a minor or suffering physical injuries b) To enhance concentration at school especially for the minors c) To make societies responsible for their young people and develop virtues that would lead to productive work in future d) Promote healthy social life Body (Translation: I will begin by outlining the aspect of underage drinking, Oklahoma’s Social Host law and specifically where Cody’s law emanated from) 1. Consumption of alcohol by the young people in the US is prohibited especially for people who are below 21 years. However, despite the minimum age that is set for people who buy alcohol being 21 years in all the states, the legal requirements varies significantly. For instance: a) Wagenaar and Melvin argue that some states have exceptions whereby they allow some individuals who are below 21 years to consume alcohol (37). This indicates that the laws are not uniformly implemented across the states. b) In Ohio State, the social host law has not been limited to the drinking parties by the underage. Therefore any action that is undertaken by an underage......

...Oliva 1 Antonio Oliva ENG 101 January 14, 2013 Self – Discovery Essay The Hard Part Writing Adrienne Rich once wrote, “Responsibility to yourself means refusing to let others do your thinking, talking, and naming for you; it means learning to respect and use your own brains and instincts; hence, grappling with hard work.” Writing for me has never come as an easy task, although I love to reads others words and I wonder to myself why could I not do something that meaningful. The hard part of writing this simply being able to make a sentence that makes sense. The intended audience must have a clear understanding of what I’m trying to communicate. This is important on many levels especially for work request from vendors who contract repair work of multi million-dollar equipment. I enjoy reading the technical manuals in order to get a better understanding on how the equipment works. This starts me on thinking how best to describe what repairs may be needed. I develop what I refer to as a mind picture. The association of mind pictures with this type reading is then converted into words. Clear and concise sentences are the key to successful understanding and to clearly avoid misunderstandings between what work needs to be accomplished and what does not need to done. This process can by the helped along by using critical reading strategies, specifically annotating, which consist of recording ones reactions to and questions about the text one has read, these comments are to......

...Ma. Sarah Katrina F. Santos June 16, 2014 11229888 SPEECOM - C32 Informative Speech How many of you thinks that having more customers is better than having fewer customers for a business? Can I see a show of hands? Alright. I presume that for those who said yes, which is the majority, raised their hand for the same reason. More customers mean more people buying and more people buying mean more profits for the company, isn’t it? Sounds sensible but I hate to break it to you but those of you who said yes are wrong. Today I will transform that thinking to exactly the opposite. I will introduce based on a new study the idea of ‘less is more’. Focusing on a smaller number of customers could help a company speed up growth, increase profit and improve long-term health. I am going to talk about how top companies gain customers, how they keep them and how these customers help them in expanding their business. They don’t need a lot of customers, just the right ones to keep them on top. First point is, fewer customers can speed up the company’s growth. Would you believe that some companies actually go out of business because of too many customers? Yes, that is true. The problem with these companies is they get very overwhelmed with the influx of customers that they forget to establish a connection with their customers. According to Forbes, this is one of the top 5 reasons why 8 out of 10 businesses fail - because they are not really in touch with their......
