Essay 1
Game Day that was No Game Day
I remember it like it was yesterday. I had moved to College Station to attend Texas A&M and to find my freedom. On a hot, humid game day I was ready to sprout my wings and fly like a college student, or so I thought. From the time I was accepted into Texas A&M until this defining moment, I thought college was all about partying and drinking on game day and that everyone did this, no matter what your age. I found out rather quickly that this bad assumption on my part would lead me to learn a hard and valuable lesson about life and consequences.
It started out pretty innocently. It was a night game so we had plenty of time to pre-party. My friends and I had decided to pre-party before the big football game. We had the golden ticket, my roommates were 21. They bought the alcohol and we helped consume it. What started as a typical Saturday ended on a sour note. After drinking in our apartment and getting hyped for the big game, we decided to head out to Northgate and carry-on with our revelry. Northgate is known as the party area of College Station and usually there is lots going on. This day was no different. Our first stop was the Chicken. After hooting and hollering with other A & M fans we moved on to the other hot spots for more partying. After our Northgate shenanigans we decided to head back to our apartment to cool off. This is when our great plan went astray. We all knew that the police in College Station have a reputation for paying too close attention to college students and making sure that there is not underage drinking going on. But hey, this was game day.
On our way back to the apartment, we were clearly too loud and too obvious and were stopped by College Station’s finest. They asked us if we had been drinking and we thought honesty was the best policy, as Mom always told us, we replied yes. They asked for our ids and clearly some of us were underage.
What happened next was not fun. I was asked along with my other underage buddies to have a seat in the police car. It got worse when they started driving, clearly we were headed to jail! My buddies and I could not believe how this day had turned out.
I think the trip to the jail was more for affect because when we got there, we all received MIC (minor in consumption) tickets and were allowed to leave. This was the ultimate rude ending to our big game-day festivities.
I am not sure what was worse, getting the ticket or having to tell my parents about getting the ticket. This ticket became the end of my time at College Station. Looking back I realize how much those beers really cost me that day.…...

...Returning To School Sheena Alexander ENG 121 Jennifer Williams 03/10/13 Returning To School With the current requirements for certain jobs available and the increase in job losses I have decided to return to school to obtain my degree and allow myself a higher chance at landing the job that I really want. My name is Sheena Alexander and I am 29 years old with a husband and two beautiful children. If you had asked me 7-10 years ago if I had any intentions on returning to school I would have said I don’t know or maybe may be not. It was an idea that I played around with a lot in my head. It was back in February of 2009 when I finally made the decision that it was best for me to return to school and obtain a degree. I have been working since I was 16 years of age and with all the jobs and experience that I have under my belt I have never seemed to be fulfilled with any of my pass jobs. I noticed how some of my co workers would get better opportunities within the company before I did simply because they had a degree. I would often wonder if I went back to school and got my degree that could be me but I just could not fathom the thought of sitting in a classroom or just going back to school. I remember working for a company called Orkin Pest Control and anytime they would post management, leadership, or trainer positions I would get so excited at the chance to apply. After being with the company two years I always figured that it would be easy for me to...

As the years moved along my adopted mother passed when I was nine years old and my adopted father when I was seventeen. On the night when my adopted father passed, my aunt Dean came to our house; we were sitting in my living room and Aunt Dean say baby girl I have something to tell you, I was thinking that because I was seventeen that she was going to say you can come and stay at our house but the words that she spoke was I am your birth mother. ...me offering a full scholarship. She said “all you have to do is write an essay as to what made your decision such an easy or hard one.” I was already thinking from she gave me that information. She then added that I had only five days to complete that essay, send a copy to her and one to the college with my mother’s signature. Just as I reached home my mother and I discussed it. We looked at the college’s history again; just to be sure that it exceeded my major, had jobs on campus, clubs that related to my career choice and great athletics. After we did that, my mother said, “start this essay now!, you don’t need work piled up on you. You have school work as well.” I replied “I have a whole five days, I could do this later.” She knew that I was going to wait until the ninth hour to start it, but she didn’t say anything else. Two days passed, and I was already assigned 3 pieces of homework and two tests, all due on the same day as my essay was due. “I’m gonna knock this homework out quick, study for my tests and get started on my essay”, I thought to myself. Things didn’t go as planned, for I was assigned two more pieces of work that day. The next day, two of the five pieces of homework I had was done and none of my tests were studied for, I had 2 more days to do my essay. As fast as lightning day number three went by and day four arrived. Now, I was in a panic because I had only hours left to do my essay, I didn’t care for the homework anymore, for this was way more......

Personal Narrative Essay

...Personal Narrative Essay Title: “For Sale” Everyone knows that phrase: “The grass is always greener on the other side”. But as a child it was a hollow statement for me. Until the day I perceived it as my philosophy of survival. This story is of my purest memories following my relentless battles. Simplistic flashbacks of virtuous kids. Full of laughter and play with nothing to be feared except for the day’s end. All before the moment where the innocence was dissolved away by the acidic misfortunes of life. [a series of sentence fragments] To illustrate, the first setting in this world was in the town called “Ocala”. It was in South-central Florida, a place where nature thrived and creatures of all walks of life roamed. The most business we had there was a prison thirty miles away, and a Wal-Mart 30 miles further down the same road. So one would say it was pretty rural. Just a quaint ole town, where the trees outnumbered the people. My best friend Samantha and I loved the fact that we had mother-nature as our playground. Spending most of our waking moments playing in the open forests, we’d sneak around concocting strategic methods on how to collect lizards and insects, then place them in small decorated cages. Once we obtained our new pets, we would examine and befriend each one, always setting them free later. However, our nights were different, pictures were taken, video games were played and even dress up was included from time to time. Videogames helped enable......

...------------------------------------------------- My most embarrassing moment My Most Embarrassing Moment Baum, Narrative Essay Have you ever had a moment in your life that you can just not forget about? I have a time in my life that I have never been so embarrassed in front of so many people. Some things are easier to remember, and some are easier to forget. I can remember this day as if it happened yesterday. It was a Friday night and I went to eat at Bonnie & Clyde’s pizza with my family for my brother’s birthday party. Out of all nights the place was packed and there was not one empty chair in the building. We sit down at the table and we enjoy the birthday. We eat pizza, cake, and everyone was having a good time. I thought I would be nice and start to clean up everyone’s plates and cups to make some room on the table for everyone. They give you the pizza on a round silver tray, so I started to pile up all the plates, cups, and silverware on to the tray. As my mother asked me “do you need any help?” I told her no I got it and started to walk up to the counter to drop off the tray. I knew that with all the stuff piled onto the tray that it was going to be too heavy but I wanted to try and carry it anyway without any help. As I am walking the tray up their stacked full I tripped over a step in the floor and I am sure you can guess what happened next. I dropped the tray everywhere and I feel to the floor. The trash went everywhere along......

...Narrative Essay The Circus by Matkurbanova Gulzat It was a long time ago, when my children were still young. I took them to the city zoo because I wanted them to see real animals. I noticed that animals were behaving strange. Some were just laying there and doing nothing. Others were just moving their heads or walking in a circle. They rushed to any place where children feed them. There I saw a little-sad tiger. I felt very sorry for it, because the cub will never know freedom and life in the forest. Then I disliked the zoo. A year later I brought my daughters to the circus. As we entered the building, I could smell sharp and unpleasant odor which made me sick. Since we came early, my daughters started playing with other children in the lobby where there were a lot of attractions for children. "Mom, animals will act in the arena?," Umida, my elder daughter asked with glowing eyes. "Of course," I said. Both my girls were very happy. "Mom,How are you feeling?" asked Umida. "Absolutely awful," I stammered. Shoira, my younger daughter, looked up at the two of us from under her eyelashes and patted my arm. "Sweetie, give me a hug, please, " I asked her. She shook her head and hugged me. "Good, now I feel much better," I said. In the arena, there were clowns, jugglers and acrobats. But a special delight in children were caused by performance of animals. We saw beautiful animals that played ball, spinning the hoops and performing complex tricks. Of course, back then I...

Why do you think that this kind of thing happens? How many people do you know that have went to college and can honestly say that they are still working in general to graduate? Personally, there are not many people that I know who have graduated from a college which is why we see most people going back to school after so many years. There can be many reasons why a person does not finish school the first time around. May it be because of money issues, their interest were elsewhere at the time, a change in career directed their focus elsewhere, but whatever that may be it happens more than we would like to think. I just so happen to fall into this category of people going back to school after I had been once before but never finished. ...Jessica Glenn Period: 06 Narrative Essay The Broken Shall Get the Last Laugh She sat on the ground, shuddering against the cold and squirming as she felt her bones ache, pressed against the concrete. She didn’t know which felt worse, the harsh December cold whipping against her already raw and beaten face, or her soul, battered and repressed to the point that it-and the girl herself-no longer wanted to exist. She wondered why she was here, how she had gotten to be so unhappy but she knew exactly why. And it was all her fault. Red. Everything she saw was red. The shirt he wore the day they met, on a day when he was the warmest thing on the rainy Sunday streets. The valentines bear he gave her a month later. Her skin when he started hitting her. Her wrist after long strenuous arguments. The nail polish he bought to say sorry. The knees pressed against the floor after hours of begging to not walk out the door. “No” he yelled at her, losing control of his temper like she had lost herself months ago. He told her she couldn’t leave. She had to be thrown out. Of course was all she thought. He has to have power. Things began to change for the worse. Black was her solace. Black was what she saw when she passed out from the pain. Black was the color of the ice pack she snuck in the middle of the night when he was asleep. Blue. The last days were blue. His shoe laces when he kicked her to the ground. The dress she wore when they went to a Halloween party, and were voted best couple...

...Running head: NARRATIVE ESSAY Literacy Narrative Ryan Hickey Western Governors University Student ID # 000504445 NARRATIVE ESSAY 2 Literacy Narrative I have never been fond of fluorescent lights. Their low almost inaudible hum, their constant flickering, and how they seem to bathe the room in a bluish/purplish hue, always seemed to put me on edge. I always tried to be the first one to arrive, and I usually was. Sitting alone in the empty conference room always seemed almost alien to me, even though I had been there many times before. Perhaps it was the anticipation of the upcoming work that caused it, or my body's self defense mechanism releasing adrenaline before the upcoming verbal sparring that always transpired. Whatever it was, it seemed to enhance my surroundings. The hum of the air conditioning clicking on, the whirl of the overhead fans, and the faint hum of the fluorescent lighting. It seemed like eternity had passed before everyone started to slowly trickle in. I scrutinize each person as they entered the room and have a seat at the long oak conference table. It never ceases to amaze me how each person was very different, with little in common. It was a true melting pot in every sense. The only real common thread was baseball. "This is what it takes to run a major league franchise, getting perspective from every possible background" I thought to myself. It was in these player evaluation meetings where I truly grasped the challenging task of being able to......

Narratives Essay

...A powerful story that retells events in history and that’s purpose is to give meaning and direction to a certain people in the present time are called narratives .All narratives have three basic parts characters, plot and plot resolution. These stories begin with a conflict or problem and end with the problem or conflict being resolved. The leading character is the protagonist, the character who causes the conflict is the antagonist and the additional characters who get involved in the conflict are the agonists. In biblical narratives GOD is always the protagonist, the devil or evil power is always the antagonist and the additional characters the agonists are God’s followers. The plot of a biblical narrative is the struggle that GOD made Christians in his image and then Satan or evil enters in and tries to persuade GOD’s people to allow evil and sin to transform them. The conclusion of the biblical narrative happens when GOD saves his people from the hold of evil and transforms them back into his image. As Christians we have to very careful when reading biblical narratives not to make some common mistakes. Understanding that these words of GOD are not necessarily direct words to us individually but a resource to guide us in daily living. Readers should not look beyond the immediate meaning of the text “allegorize” but instead focus on the clear meaning. Ignoring “decontextualizing” the history and literal text can allow the reader to make the scripture say what they want......

The thesis statement will be on the subject “A Family Reunion”. The final page holds an outline used to perform this essay. ENGLISH 106 3 A Family Reunion With this assignment, I have chosen “A Family Reunion” to incorporate within my thesis statement. I believe that this topic is best suited for me because my family has never had a happy or joyous reunion that I can remember. The disease of alcoholism runs very deep within the family history, and for that reason, I grew up in a very dysfunctional family setting. With that being stated, I will begin by saying, “Family Reunions are nothing but chaos, arguments, and showing off. Nothing enjoyable or happily memorable ever arises from having times put aside for this said occasion.” My parents were divorced when I was only 4 years old and to this day I still see the burnt images of their final argument instilled within my mind. My mother, rest her soul, had done what she could for our family, regardless of the fact that my father had given absolutely no support for the 9 children. I remember seeing my father, maybe twice,......
