Electric Music
The flashing lights, the bang of the bass, and the sweat pouring down my arms. The smell of the sketchy club that will be the stomping ground for the night and the huge amount of people within my view, moving similarly to an uneasy sea. I’ve lost all track of time; my legs have been in constant motion along with my fellow ravers for what feels like days. Techno is the one thing that draws everyone here, as if we were bees being drawn to a flower, the music is the nectar of our ears. We are drawn techno, a type of music that is very misunderstood. Techno is music created using synthesizers and other electronic instruments. Techno- electric music and raves; when many hear these words they most likely think of an underground club that is filled with drugs and drunk kids. This perception has been hanging over this scene for some time now. It seems that has all started to change. This once frowned upon practice referred to as raving and the music that accompanies this event, called techno, is now generally accepted. Now not only young people enjoy this music, a lot of middle- aged people do as well. Today it appears that this once dark practice is now coming to light.
This once dark practice has been growing in popularity among the young people for a little over fifteen years. With this rise in popularity comes more than just acceptance. The rave scene needs two things; a DJ and a location. Generally a traditional DJ would take a request for a song, or throw their own spin on them. But now DJ’s do much more then that. Most DJs have gone into the science of music to obtain their goal. This requires equipment that once was very limited, making it hard to acquire. Now it has become something you can purchase at Best Buy or find sites specializing in the equipment required to mix. The old school basic turn tables have now become replaced by lab tops and mixing programs. That makes it very easy to mix music for just about anyone. But with only a DJ a rave can become difficult because a venue is also needed. This is key to any rave. Raves which were once thought of as being held in abandoned tunnels or old buildings (though I still feel the best ones are still held in those venues) now are found all over the place. Clubs, schools, and parks are also common venues now, frequently used. With the growing popularity pushing this, it will not be long until sporting stadiums are holding these events for 50,000 plus people, soon becoming the crazy hit it is in Europe.
The allowance of being able to put full songs together with just a laptop and a music program has changed the music scene dramatically. The need to buy instruments and then learn these said instruments is almost irrelevant. With a program, you can pile any sound or instrument under tone that you wish. This has really leveled the playing field. Not needing any producers or studio has opened the door for many aspiring artist. This is another big appeal to techno and the rave scene, making it very simple for anyone to jump into the business. With the simplicity of the programs and videos online, now a day it is very simple to learn. Many are taking advantage of their resources and optimizing them, which could lead to the possibility of making a name for them selves within the industry.
Like many “hip” things in any generation, they tend to start in colleges. A lot of the new music, merchandise and even dances are targeted towards students. The simple fact of it is, we are the next generation set to hit the real world, and we enjoy what ever is being offered towards us now. There is a good chance when we hit the real world and begin to make money that we will want to try those same products again. The same goes for techno- electric music. Once related to punks, it is now being featured on campuses around America. Since starting in Europe, it has taken a little while to hit in the states. But now clearly it has become a huge success. According to the author Gordon Colin, “Evidence of the rising popularity and diversity of electronic music can be found in the latest Britney Spears song, "Hold It Against Me." Halfway through the song it drops into dubstep. Say what? A Britney Spears song that veers off the mainstream, popular culture track? How could this be? Well folks, even the queen of pop is pushing the electronic scene into mainstream. Whether this is a good or bad thing still remains to be seen. The fact that electro is still "underground" is a big turn on for most people.”
Once hidden in the dark, this form of music has fully exploded. With many DJ’s being well known, not just by fans, but by the main stream also. Names like Skrillex and Deadmau5 are very well known now within the mainstream music. The speed and way we share music today has made it extremely quick and easy for artist to make and mix music. Then they can easily share it with others in a few minutes and get almost simultaneous feedback. They create new music genres that fall between what many call normal. The real pioneer many would say is DJ Tiesto, who is the reason techno-electric has taken off so well in the states. He is a Dutch DJ whose unique mixes and keen sense of beats and sounds became a huge influence on these now very well know artist.
Some may say its still all about the drugs and random hook ups. Since the music has become so much more than a simple jumble of created sounds, it now has a face behind it with a real artist that is selling out venues and leading the way into a new era of music. Just as hip-hop was solely considered to be just about, drugs, sex and gang banging but now the perception has changed. Those artists made it more than that, creating a meaning behind the words they put from mind to paper, then from paper to spoken word. Techno-electric music has the same road to move down and almost the same negative reputations to squash. As trends grow and die, they tend to come back but in different forms. Give the sounds of this music a chance and you too could come to enjoy them.

...Music Rock music is the genre of music that I like most because of the creativity involved, its thrilling nature and the mostly, the message passed is captivating and educational. Rock music started in 1960s and has been developed to now and is one of the most popular music. Its root is 1940s and 1950s rock and role while its development was highly influenced by the country music, rhythms and blues, jazz and blues and folks. The sound of rock music is based on electric guitar where its modern form emerged in 1950s, the period when rock and roll was popularized. The electric guitar’s sound was supported by percussion originating from the drum kits and electric bass guitar, whose origin was in jazz music. The instruments used in rock include synthesizers, Hammond organ, and piano. A group of musicians who perform rock music are referred to as a rock band. One of the rock bands that I enjoy its music is the Coldplay. Coldplay was formed in 1996 as an alternative rock band. The group came up with numerous songs with Viva la Vida being one of the best songs. The song, viva la vida is a Spanish word that means long live life. It was released in 2008 on parlophone. The major themes are war, death and life. The style of this song is based on repeating string section with a percussion background which clearly indicates that it is an alternative rock, a sub genre of rock genre. Electric Daisy Carnival

...Darlin Tino 09/14/13 English 121 Memoir Paper Electric Daisy Carnival The bright, colorful beams of light illuminated the night sky. Never in my life have I seen an image full of neon colors, glow in the dark items, brilliant lights, and music all caused by energetic people. There was a huge amount of daisies that caught my eye, especially the very tall, bright, moving daisy. It was a world of fantasy. There was a huge old school stereo standing in about ten feet tall and twelve feet wide. Enormous butterflies and caterpillars were roaming around. The Gingerbread Man, the Teletubbies, and Ernie from Sesame Street were all present. This was just too much for me, but it put a silly smile on my face that I carried for the rest of the night. My feelings were the lava from a volcano ready to erupt. The nervous feeling I had disappeared in an instant. My eyes were popped open like an owl’s eyes that never seem to close. I didn’t want to blink, because I did not want to miss a second. I froze for a good amount of time trying to take in the good vibes that stuffed the air. I took a deep breath before I stepped foot into the fantasy planet that was full of life, bad influence, and unpredictable outcomes. The people added a glow to the place. Females wore poufy skirts, fuzzy boots, and flowered headbands. The males had eye-catching t-shirts. Both were clothed in all sorts of colors blending in with the theme. They wore multicolored beaded bracelets that were being traded,......

...subgenres (insert quote) these are; detective, thriller and gangster genre. Crime genre (insert quote) The first trailer I will analyse is the crime thriller ‘Snatch’ released in 2000, which has a very gritty, de-saturated and dull look, it has a low-key lighting and numerous use of the chiascuros effect connoting this idea of a double identity or a dark side which is common in British gangster movies. It contains dark humour and historic references suggesting that it is targeted at a more mature audience aged 16-24. The non-diegetic music playing in the background is very high paced which adds momentum, the electric guitar pinches which is found in action movies connotes the idea that our stock characters might part-take on a mission, which is a typical situation that you find in heist movies. The beatboxing and drums are common elements that associate with the Hip Hop culture, which gives the trailer an urban atmosphere, the music then transits into “Jump on It” by the Sugar Hill Gang who are from Englewood, New Jersey which is known for its high rates in crime. The movie is set in London specifically to reveal the secret world of crime, this idea of the big city, London being the capital allowing the protagonist to achieve the American dream even in a British setting. In the opening scene we spot 4 armed men in what we assume to be costumes/disguise, this is typical of British crime drama as it illustrates elements of ‘heist’ straight away. We perceive......

Electric Vehicle

...many countries have already started taking steps in this direction. In America, for example, The Obama administration has, set forth a goal of having one million electric-powered vehicles on U.S. roads by 2015, while some others have also proposed a medium-term goal where electric vehicles would consist of 20% of the passenger vehicle fleet by 2030 or approximately 30 million electric vehicles to contribute toward greener planet or reduce their carbon print. Many big automobile companies have also started taking steps in this direction by giving serious thought to development of battery operated vehicle or hybrid vehicles. Nissan Motor for example has already put a six billion dollars bet in the growing market for such vehicles. To those worried about the over dependence of their countries on exports of oil from foreign countries, development and deployment of electric vehicles will be a huge respite. Implementing stronger efficiency standards and imposing higher taxes on motor fuels are some steps in the direction to reduce over dependency on depleting natural resources, but achieving even greater reductions will require changing the way people power their transportation system or use vehicle/cars/public transportation to travel. To those worried about climate change, greenhouse emission and depleting ozone layer, electric cars, or battery powered vehicles could increasingly be considered a boon. Finally, to countries and states which are increasingly trying to reduce their......

Lincoln Electric

...9-707-445 REV: AUGUST 25, 2008 JORDAN SIEGEL Lincoln Electric Introduction John Stropki, CEO of Lincoln Electric, returned home from Mumbai to company headquarters in Cleveland, having sampled the local Maharashtran delicacies while studying opportunities in the Indian market. From his vantage point in 2006, Stropki looked back on his company’s more than 100 years in the welding equipment and consumables industry with pride, wondering whether a strong push into India should be the next step in his company’s globalization. An India expansion had been considered for several years, but thus far the company had focused on growing its operations in China and elsewhere around the globe. If Stropki were to approve a significant allocation of resources toward an India expansion, he wondered what would be the best way to enter. He had a wealth of company lessons and experiences to apply to the India investment decision, as his company had had international operations since the 1940s, had struggled internationally in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and had gone on to regain its global competitive advantage in the late 1990s and early 2000s. During Stropki’s tenure as CEO since 2004, the company had further expanded globally and by 2006 owned manufacturing operations in 19 countries across five continents. Most recently, the company had enjoyed increasing success in China as a result of its aggressive expansion through both a joint venture and set of......

...7 October 2015 Alexander Graham Bell was born on March 3,1847 and died on April 2,1922. He is the guy who we all have to thank for inventing the telephone, without him how could we communicate? In 1866 Bell experimented on the thought of how to produce vowel sounds. He came up with the thought of combing the note of electrically driven forks, which gave him the idea of telegraphing speech. Bell with the lack of electric knowledge, ask for help from a local electrical shop owner named Thomas A. Watson. After many months of working together the two finally accomplished something. On June 2,1875 Watson heard a sound coming from over Bell’s end of the wire, with some tinkering the device transmitted Bell’s voice to Watson. Bell soon begins to write a patent for his first telephone. Besides trying to complete the telephone, Bell was trying to help out the deaf children. He opened a school in Boston to train teachers to teach and tutor the deaf. He was also the professor of vocal physiology at Boston University. Alexander did many lectures and tutoring at this time, helping many deaf students. Bells health was not doing so well in 1875 because of the long nights, this led him to return to his parent’s house in Canada to recuperate. In 1875 after many years of working endless nights and with the financial help of George Sander and Mabel Hubbard, the two finish the telephone and Bell soon got a patent for the telephone in 1876.  Sigmund Freud was born on May 6,1856...

General Electric

...General Electric Everybody has heard of Thomas Edison, the inventor of the light bulb and the man who discovered electricity. General Electric started when a man by the name of Charles A. Coffin started a company called Thomson-Houston and they made different technology for the time, and were the main competitors for Thomas Edison. Over time, both companies couldn’t compete with each other’s different patents and inventions, so they eventually merged in the year 1892. Since the time that the two companies merged, it has become more than evident that General Electric is the number one company of its kind in the world. General Electric was sought out by the United States Government to create the first aircraft engine ‘booster’. After that, Thomas Edison began experimenting with plastic filaments for the light bulb, which led to General Electric creating the plastics department. General Electric is still expanding today and showing no signs of slowing down. They have recently purchased a company called Dresser, which is basically a company that tests different items and makes sure that they are not only working efficiently, but also working to make sure that they are using the least amount of energy possible. General Electric is also looking to expand in China, and recently signed a $700,000,000 contract with Saudi Arabia to experiment and use wind energy. I think that with all of the expansion that General Electric is doing, that their stock prices should rise. I......

...Electric Smile Five years ago I took my dentist’s recommendation and switched to an electric toothbrush. After experiencing the difference and electric toothbrush has had on my mouth I wouldn’t switch back for anything. Electric brushes make my mouth feel cleaner and have caused my dental check-ups to go much smoother. I haven’t had a cavity since I switched! Electric toothbrushes are basically like having a mini dental office cleaning every day. Though healthy teeth and gums are important and easily maintainable, many people do not follow the simple, yet sometimes tedious rules. In fact, they are always looking for an easier way to maintain their oral health. The electric toothbrush was invented in 1961 by General Electric. “The use of a powerful, compact motor and rechargeable battery leads to the introduction of an automatic toothbrush and is the forerunner of the development of other handheld appliances such as hair dryers and an electric slicing knife” (Dedicated). Electric toothbrushes come in many shapes and sizes, allowing the user to choose one that is most comfortable, while also providing an easier, more efficient, and affordable way to keep a clean and healthy mouth. Electric toothbrushes come in a wide variety, allowing the user to find one fitting his or her needs. There are basically two types of electric toothbrushes: sonic heads and spinning heads. Electric Counterpoint

...‘Third Movement From Electric Counterpoint’ by Steve Reich Background to Minimalism La Monte Young and Terry Riley were experimental composers who made the most of minimal musical resources to create a piece, using drones and repetition. Young wrote ‘The well Tuned Piano’ which includes improvisation and lasts for 6 hours. Riley experimented with tape loops combined with delay and instrumental sounds. Reich was part of the ensemble for the first performance of Riley’s composition ‘In C’, which repeats short musical fragments along with a constantly repeating quaver C keeping the pulse. Features of Minimalism Drones - a long continuous note or constantly repeated note Ostinato / loops - repeated musical ideas. Cells - the shortest musical ideas Phasing - two almost identical parts which go out of sync with each other and gradually, after a number of repetitions, come back into sync again Metamorphosis - gradually changing from one musical idea to another, often by changing one note at a time Layering - adding new musical parts, usually one at a time Note Addition - beginning with a simple, sparse ostinato, after a number of repetitions notes are gradually added Note Subtraction - beginning with a more complex ostinato, notes are gradually taken away Rhythmic Displacement - varying the notes to be accented in a musical phrase, or starting the same phrase in a different part of the bar [as Reich does with ‘ostinato 1’] Augmentation - Increasing the lengths of notes......
