...Children of a 70-year-old mother want to know if she should be able to start driving again. It’s been years since she has last driven and when she was an active driver she got into many accidents. She also has a history of bad hearing, arthritis, and alcoholism. The mother’s therapist says that she should make her own decisions and everyone else should support her choices. I think the children to realize that though the therapist may have good opinions on how to handle situations, id doesn’t mean their always right, Especially in this case. I realize this is an unfortunate answer to hear but if this were my mother, it would never happen. The risks seem to out way the benefits for everyone in this particular situation. She really does create a higher risk of putting herself or others in greater danger driving on the road. You mentioned she frequently got herself into accidents as a frequent driver while she was younger. Well how could you expect things to be and different or better now? Now that her hearing has gone bad she will have an even harder time picking up on serious warnings. Things like incoming trains, ambulances, fire trucks or other emergency vehicles will be harder to pick up on then before. Her arthritis can lead to having even slower reaction times then her normal routine. Finally, her alcoholism is probably the worst scenario out of all these factors. More people die from drunken related deaths then almost anything else. Even if she......

Drinking and Driving

...friends house. While you’re driving, you notice you are feeling a little drowsy. You see some headlights that look like they are heading towards you. Then all of the sudden you collide. After everything settles, you realize you are alright. You crawl out of the window and walk towards the other car. Looking through the spider-cracked windshield, you see a woman and her two kids, all dead. In 2005, there were an estimated 16,885 alcohol related fatalities in the U.S. That is over 39% of automobile related fatalities that year. On average, 254,000 people are injured in alcohol related wrecks in a year. After hearing these statistics, you can tell that drinking and driving is a huge issue in America. The dangers of drunk driving effect drivers of America every day. Not only do you have to be responsible enough to control yourself from drinking and driving, you also have to worry about other people that are drinking and driving. Even though you may not wreck while driving drunk, there are other risks involved. When driving while impaired by alcohol, it’s very easy for police officers to notice you. If you are even caught drinking underage, no matter where it is, you can be put on probation. If your caught drinking and driving underage, your running the risk of losing your license. I’m sure all of you agree with me when I say it wouldn’t be very cool to lose your license. In my opinion, losing the independence of driving is not worth drinking and driving. 39% of all......

Should the Age of Obtaining a Driving License in Malaysia Be Increased to 21 Years Old?

...Should the age of obtaining a driving license in Malaysia be increased to 21 years old? Year by year the accident rate in Malaysia has been on a steady hike. Various factors are said to be the contributors for this hike. However, one prominent factor has been a topic for debate in recent years. It is claimed that newly licensed teenagers have helped to increase the number of serious accidents than any other group on the road. For this reason, I believe that the age of obtaining a driving license in Malaysia should be raised to 21 years old. Firstly, at the age of 21, humans leave their teenage years into early adulthood. During this period of life, humans gain more maturity physically and mentally. Mental maturity is an absolute requirement for all drivers. At a younger age, teenagers are fueled by a competitive lifestyle where everything seems to be race for them. This also happens on road where teenagers strive to overtake any drivers who drive faster than them. In turn, they endanger their own life and the life of others due to this immaturity. Secondly, once the minimum age is raised there will be lesser drivers on the road. If we only may get a driving license at the age of 21, then teenagers from the age of 17 to 20 years old will still not be driving. Consequently, there will be lesser drivers on the road which lead to a lower probability for accidents to occur. Besides, the more cars on the roads, the higher the probability of accidents to occur. This can be proven by...

How to Get a Driving License in Karachi

...How to get a driving license in Karachi Trying to get any ordinary task done, in a place like Karachi, when you have to deal with the government, turns out not to be an ordinary experience at all. One example of that is what happened when I got my driver’s license. Firstly, I would discuss the honest and decent way in which my friend and I tried to get our license. We went to the license department on a Thursday afternoon. When we reached there, many agents tried to approach us told that they could get our licenses for us, as they had contacts with officers inside the department, who would get our licenses within no time. They also mentioned that it was almost impossible for us to get the licenses without hiring anyone for us, because the people inside the department are corrupt people and will never pass us in the theoretical exam and as well as the practical one. Since, we were there to follow the right way and had no of breaking the law; we decided to get hold of the licenses in a fair way. When we tried to get our driver’s license honestly, here were the steps we had to follow, in which we encountered different situations. Firstly, we entered the license department and went straight to the counter where we took our license forms in one building. After filling out forms, we had to go to the other building where we had to submit them. In that building, a huge crowd was present and a race for the submission of forms was happening. Those who had arranged an......

Internet: http://www.genetics.edu.au FACT SHEET 8 29 Important points Trisomy 13 (also known as Patau syndrome) is a chromosomal condition in which there are three copies instead of the usual two copies of all, or a part of chromosome 13 in the cells of the body Trisomy 13 severely impacts on intellectual and physical development Appears to affect females slightly more frequently than males Occurs in about 1 in 5,000 to 1 in 12,000 live births About 1% of all recognised miscarriages occur in association with trisomy 13 Of all babies born with the extra copy of chromosome 13 in all the cells of their body, around 50% die in the first month, and the rest within the first year The chromosomal problem in trisomy 13 is due to an egg cell or, rarely, a sperm cell, that is formed containing one copy of each chromosome and an extra copy of chromosome 13, ie. 24 chromosomes rather than 23. When that egg combines with sperm containing the usual 23 chromosomes, the baby conceived has 47 chromosomes in the cell of their body rather than the usual 46 When there are three copies of chromosome number 13 in all of the baby’s cells, the condition is referred to as trisomy 13 When the extra copy of chromosome 13 is only in some of the baby’s cells due to a mistake in cell division occurring soon after conception, the chromosomes in the...

Teens Driving

...Argumentative Essay By: Bailey Tollefson Teens Driving There is a tremendous issue in America with teens driving. A big reason why is because car crashes are, “the number one killer of teens in the United States” (“Safe kids Worldwide,” 2014). Many parents realize the danger that their kids are in once they get their license, and get freaked out. This is because teens are inexperienced, they easily get distracted, and most do not realize the importance of safe driving, and how unsafe driving can affect their lives. Teenagers have little experience once they get their drivers licenses. This is a major problem, because when you are young you feel invincible. This certainly is not the case. In 2013, 2,163 teens in the United States ages 16–19 were killed, which means that six teenagers died each day (“Get the Facts,” 2013). These crashes were mainly from lack of experience. “The first 500 miles for teenage drivers are the most crucial. During this time, they are 10 times more likely to be in auto crashes than adult drivers” (“Teenage Car Accidents,” 2012). A big concern for driving at night is reduced road visibility. “In 2009, 61 percent of teen crash deaths occurred between 6 P.M, and 6 A.M… this is primarily due to a combination of the visibility challenges caused by dark conditions, and slower response time brought about by fatigue, and a lack of experience driving under such conditions” (Canfield, 2013). Also animals are more active at night, which would lead......
