Don’t text and drive Victoria Guerriero Image Analysis

“Five seconds is the average time your eyes are off the road while texting. When traveling at 55mph, that's enough time to cover the length of a football field.” (2009, VTTI). While texting and driving has always been an issue since people were able to text on phones, it has not gained much media attention until recently. People may have sent an occasional text while driving ten years ago, but because the keyboard was harder to use, people were not doing it as often. Today’s phones allow you to text with one hand, making it easier to text while driving. With that being said there have been more accidents related to texting and driving. Those that have been injured or almost injured in an accident may no longer text and drive, but the vast majority of people that have yet to injure themselves or others while doing this will continue to text and drive because they feel safe. There are many ads, commercials and even organizations that are against texting and driving but the number of people that have actually stopped texting while driving is at a bare minimum. “60% of drivers use cell phones while driving.” (2011, Harris Poll). It seems as if all the advertisements have not paid off like planned. The reason behind so many ads is to cut back on texting and driving and I believe the media helps get the idea of texting and driving into people’s heads. People will participate in this dangerous action to prove that they will not get hurt. Others will see this and think it is okay for them to text and drive as well. It is like a deadly chain reaction. The ads need to capture the attention of the audience and show how serious texting and driving really is. I believe this ad has a very powerful meaning. Obviously the main message is do not text and drive but it does have a deeper…...

Drive

...What Drives Us? What is drive and why is it important? It is the ambition and will of an individual to commit an act. We are driven by what motivates us and success is measured in many ways. Goals can be a part of this process, but are not always necessary. The most common motivator is reward, such as money; however it is not the only one. People are also driven by emotion and power. Without motivation, our society would not be as prosperous as it is today. Money, power, and emotion are the most prevalent things that compel us to wake up and do what we do each and every day. Our ability to earn money plays a large part in how we fit into society. Those that lack education and the ambition to learn generally find themselves the poorest while those that seek knowledge and want to better their lives usually hold wealth and power. Sometimes blind luck or chance can affect how we live. Winning the lottery or inventing something useful can change your life in many ways. They say you can’t buy happiness, but I would sure like to give it a try. The bottom line is having too much money is preferable to not having enough. Acting according to the law is a choice we all have to make. People who commit horrific crimes are driven, but not necessarily by the same things as the rest of the population. Feelings of power and the adrenaline rush from committing a crime can be addictive. Criminals usually commit more severe crimes after they learn how to get away with smaller......

...English Essay Rewrite Compare and contrast Text A and Text B Text A- Satirical Elegy on the death of a late famous general Text B- An obituary of William Davidson Both texts are similar, in the fact that they both are reminiscence on a person’s life after their death. Many differences, however, can be seen throughout the poem written by Jonathan Swift and the Obituary. The opening of both Texts is contradictory as Text A opens with a series of exclamations, ‘His Grace! Impossible! What, dead!, ’which gives an impression of surprise at the death but not a sense of grief is aroused. On the other hand, Text B embarks with a compliment ‘was in his element at the heart of the action’; both openings give a clear implication of the withdrawal of the rest of the text. The structure of both are also at a contrast, Text A is an elegy so Is a farewell to the dead but the fact that Swift writes a satire elegy therefore removes the traditional aspect of an elegy. Text B is an Obituary, but although also a farewell to the dead, it is read at a remembrance or a funeral so is written with aspiration to honour William Davidson and not undermine him in the way that Text A is. Text A is written with a sarcastic and mocking tone, through the poem it is highlighted that the general has earned the disrespected he has received through the mention also of his failures with use of the parallelism of ‘Nor widows’ sigh, nor orphans’ tears’ which gives the impression that no grief is......

Don't Text and Drive

...Don’t Text and Drive Every day there are many motor vehicle accidents in the world. The use of cell phones while driving causes many of these accidents. In Albuquerque there is a hands free law. We can get fined if we have our cell phone in our hand when we are driving. Even with the law, I still see people with their phone in their hands while driving all of the time. Some people are talking on their phone and other people are texting. In order to save your own life as well as save the lives of other people on the road, it is important that people stop texting while driving. Texting while driving is very distracting. Imagine if your best friend was driving a car and received a text. They look down to read the text and a car pulls out in front of him or her. They look up at the last second but it is too late. If someone is going 55 mph, they will drive the length of an entire football field in the time it takes to look at a text. There are applications people can get that will read a text to you. I think the best thing would be to turn your phone on silent until you have reached your destination. Most text messages can wait. If someone is texting, that means they do not have both hand on the steering wheel. The reaction time if they need to swerve out of the way would not be as good. They would need to drop their phone and grab the steering and then turn the wheel. This would also cause an accident. Text messaging makes the likelihood of an......

To Text or Not to Text

...To text or not to text Text messaging has become a convenient way to communicate or maybe an obsession. Texting as is it is commonly referred to today, allows individuals to literally to express their thoughts, information, and maintain relationships with the tips of their fingers. The use of the text message has redefined the way in which our society communicates with each other. Would you believe that 11% of people have sent a text message during sex! Wow! This trend seems to have become an addiction. Text messages are usually read within 5 minutes of being received and responded to instantly. Though this function has many benefits, it has created several negative problems as well. The cost to ones safety as well as the general public has made texting a highly debated subject. I prefer to just pick up the phone and make a call. It’s quick, it’s easy and if you don’t get an answer, you just leave a message or call back later. Thought of as a convenient way of communication, texting with technology advances faster than etiquette has contributed to the erosion of our society. The power of text messaging is one that has redefined how the world communicates and those that choose to use it have a responsibility to use it correctly. Text messaging allows for individuals to maintain person relationships for those that do not have the ability to see one another on a regular basis. As a study showed, the average teenager uses the text message for about 54% of their interactions......

...Overview Rewards and punishments are failing us as motivators, declares Pink. Encouraging autonomy, mastery and purpose in personal and professional settings will lead to more productive, creative, and ultimately fulfilling lives. Part One: A New Operating System Chapter 1 questions the traditional view of human motivation that rewards pushing people to perform better and work harder. Pink explains that people have operating systems--the first, Motivation 1.0, is the biological drive to survive, and the second, Motivation 2.0 (M2), is driven by extrinsic motivators. Pink then describes organizations’ limited attempts to improve M2 by fostering environments for employees to grow and gain more autonomy. Pink describes how M2 is increasingly incompatible with how we organize what we do, how we think about what we do, and how we do what we do. He describes how organizations are morphing into entities that allow for a mix of goals rather than segregated by for-profit and not-for-profit. He describes how humans think irrationally, contrary to what economists may believe. Finally, Pink describes how people need to be intrinsically motivated in order for our motivational operating system to function. In Chapter 2, Pink discusses the negative consequences of utilizing carrots and sticks, à la M2, to encourage certain actions or results. Firstly, carrots and sticks have the potential to diminish intrinsic motivation, which is driven by passion, pleasure, and interest in a......

The Text

...The text under stylistic analysis is written by Joyce Carry. It deals with the author’s emotions and feelings towards Clare, Tutin’s wife, who lost her husband. This text is about one businessman Tutin who tell in love with his secretary and wanted a divorce. After having a conversation with his husband, Clare was resigned after all. She thought it would be stupid to try to hold him against his will and he’d only hate her. Then we meet an Old Mrs. Beer who was the widow of a canon. This comparison the author used to show us that the old lady became a widow long ago and probably used to live alone. Then the author describes her appearance and her character . She was a short, stout woman with a red face and a heavy jaw — a pugnacious and indomitable face. And having known this description we can say it was a bossy person who liked to give orders to other people. The author compare her face with the faces in boxing booths, who have been in the ring all their lives and lost all their fight but still follow the game, in order to show that she already «lost her fight», but anyway like giving arbitrary commands . And when she got to know about this arrangement she came without any warning and broke into Tutin’s office, with an umbrella in hand as if about to beat him. This comparison author used to underline she had very serious intentions as to his son-in-low. «This was in the presence of the secretary who was taking a dictation — not Phyllis was no longer a secretary». And...

Do Not Text and Drive

...will happen to them and that they are immune. Despite so, that is most definitely not the case. Life is precious and can be taken away in an instant. I urge everyone, especially my friends and family, to not text and drive . I beg everyone to listen carefully to my statements. Do not disregard this plead; it may save your life and others’ lives . I know that you may be rolling your eyes. However, even YOU can be a victim of an accident that resulted from texting and driving. When individuals text and drive, they are have greater chances of crashing. By texting and driving, people are tremendously impaired. To be a safe driver, people must pay attention to the road and be aware of upcoming dangers. Drivers are not conscious of traffic, pedestrians, signs, or changes when they are texting. When eyes are taken off the road, the driver has no control over the direction they are going in and are at risk. In the blink of an eye, an accident may suddenly occur. This may have happened because of ONE text message. Is answering a text message more important than preventing critical injuries and deaths? If someone died in an accident because of a car accident, imagine how heartbreaking that would be. Imagine if your friend, sibling, parent, or child died in a car crash due to a text message of all things. It is unquestionably tragic because the person could have achieved incredible things and lived a long life. When you lose someone close to you, it is an experience like no other.......

This was especially the case when the pleasure was a delicate one, as his pleasures mostly were; and on this occasion the moment he looked forward to was so rare and exquisite in quality that--well, if he had timed his arrival in accord with the prima donna's stage-manager he could not have entered the Academy at a more significant moment than just as she was singing: "He loves me--he loves me not--HE LOVES ME!--" and sprinkling the falling daisy petals with notes as clear as dew. She sang, of course, "M'ama!" and not "he loves me," since an unalterable and unquestioned law of the musical world required that the German text of French operas sung by Swedish artists should be translated into Italian for the clearer understanding of English- speaking audiences. This seemed as natural to Newland Archer as all the other conventions on which his life was moulded: such as the duty of using two silver- backed brushes with his monogram in blue enamel to part his hair, and of never appearing in society without a flower (preferably a gardenia) in his buttonhole. "M'ama . . . non m'ama . . . " the prima donna sang, and "M'ama!", with a final burst of love triumphant, as she pressed the dishevelled daisy to her lips and lifted her large eyes to the sophisticated countenance of the little brown Faust-Capoul, who was vainly trying, in a tight purple velvet......
