“Learning in secondary school has been characterised as increasingly technocratic and standardised, a process based on clearly defined aims delivered through centralised teaching methods that produce measurable outcomes fostering competition and achievement (Atkinson 2011)”

Purpose of study
Art, craft and design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity. A high-quality art and design education should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.

Fannie Mae Freddie Mac

...Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are two major mortgage lending companies in the United States. Both these large scale companies have lent out about $5.3 trillion dollars in mortgages. The companies lend other banks and financial institutions money so that the other banks can make new loans to businesses, potential homeowners, and other people looking to borrow money. By lending out all of this new money to other financial institutions the companies are potentially helping increase the economy. Freddie Mac lent out a plethora of money to major financial institutions that were risky institutions to trust to pay back. If a company knows that they are lending money out, and they know that they may never see the money again, it is considered to be very risky. This set’s mortgage lending companies up for disaster. Being an accounting student I have learned that as an auditor you must possess the trait of professional skepticism. Professional Skepticism is an attitude that an auditor must maintain, which includes having a questioning and critical mind when going through accounting records. The accounting methods that were used by both companies were not in any violation of the accounting rules, but from the view of an accountant with professional skepticism, they may have been considered unethical. Freddie Mac took the losses that they have incurred from lending money to financial institutions that were unable to pay back the money that they owed, and “pushed......

Fannie Mae: the Most Ethical Company

...How Did Fannie Get on the Wall in the First Place? Fannie Mae was established to facilitate the perceived social responsibility in the United States of encouraging the growth and affordability of housing, especially for disadvantaged groups. During the period in which Franklin Raines was at the helm, the company could seem to do no wrong, garnering recognition for many socially responsible accolades, being “near the top of everyone’s ‘best’ list” (Jennings, 2010, p. 268). For a company, is social responsibility the only mandate? Perhaps for Fannie Mae who was established by federal charter to meet such a mandate, this might be the case, but Milton Friedman argues that “there is one and only one social responsibility of business . . . increase its profits” (1970, para. 33). This author believes that if a company does not minimally maintain cash flow, or “real” profits, over the long term, it will be unable to meet any contrived social responsibility or survive. How an organization goes about maintaining or increasing cash flow brings into play the idea of governance, which “comprises the roles, responsibilities, and balance of power among executives, directors, and shareholders” . According to Aguilera and Cuervo-Cazurra (2004) there are two purposes of corporate governance policy; improving quality of governance (or the running of the company), and increasing accountability of the leadership. Fannie Mae’s leadership was fixated on a single indicator of company......

Freddy Mac and Fannie Mae

...Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are private corporations that were established by Congress and are referred to as government sponsored enterprises or GSEs. They are the largest “packagers” of individual mortgages into mortgage backed securities (MBS) which they guarantee against loss. We will be addressing the following threats to your financial institutions stability. Counterparty risk. Internal and external vulnerability and threats. Stemming the tide of losses from overly aggressive practices in lending continues to retard the marketplace and has yet to reach equilibrium. The use of macro measures is of critical importance in returning the company to profitability. \ The use of Macroeconomic Measures, Using Aggregate Data. These measures approach threats to financial stability from the top down: Is aggregate credit growing too fast? Are credit underwriting standards falling? Are asset prices too high relative to fundamentals? “In an internal boom-bust cycle, an initial market upswing entices new investors and rising prices until additional capital or investors’ nerves are exhausted.”(Evanoff, Kaufman, and Malliaris, 2012). “This process can be amplified by capital rules that encourage banks to increase leverage when the economy is expanding and loan losses are low.” (Hanson, Kashyap, and Stein, 2011). “In the ensuing bust, a credit crunch can occur as participants switch from lending too much to lending too little.” (Brunnermeier, 2009). Fannie Mae Case Study

...reported cost of the Obama Administration’s cash payments made to Government Sponsored Enterprises (GSEs) Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac was $130 billion (Cover). This number has been a well-publicized figure signaling the corruption of these two mortgage giants. In fact, enormous sums of money often become the public symbol for corruption when corporate fraud is committed. By the same token, Fannie Mae’s $9 billion of overstated earnings from 2001-2003 also became a strong representation for the executive deception that was committed during this time period (Harvard Law School Case). However, the reasons for the fraud itself are often overlooked. While we can’t be certain that executive compensation practices contributed to this fraud, it undoubtedly did not strengthen the idea of producing firm value for the benefit of shareholders. Fannie Mae was created in the midst of the Great Depression (1938) to buy mortgages from lenders so that money would be freed up for other borrowers (Pickert). Although Fannie started off with just $1 billion to purchase mortgages, the organization was extremely effective and shaped American home ownership for a new class of people that once were not considered creditworthy. Essentially, low to middle income buyers were able to receive credit and become homeowners due to the success of Fannie Mae. It is important to note that Fannie Mae was established with an amazing social mission in mind: to help American homeowners realize their......

...Tissues Squamous Epithelial Tissue Squamous epithelial tissues are thin and flat, scale-like in appearance, tend to have larger, elliptically-shaped nuclei. Squamous epithelial tissue are used for filtration and diffusion. Due to their simple and thin construct, they allow for easy transmembrane movement. Squamous epithelium is found in locations where rapid diffusion or filtration take place. In the kidney, simple squamous epithelium lines the Bowman’s capsule and the glomerulus. Filtration and diffusion is instrumental to the kidney's function, as the kidney filters about 180 litres of blood per day. Simple squamous epithelium also makes up the alveoli in the lungs, where rapid gas exchange occurs, as oxygen enters the bloodstream through alveolar blood vessels and carbon dioxide exits as waste. Cuboidal Epithelial Tissue These tissues are equally wide as they are tall, creating a square profile with a spherical nucleus at its centre. Cuboidal tissues are able to provide a layer of protection from abrasion, foreign particles, invading bacteria and excessive water loss. In the kidney these distinct surfaces allow the simple cuboidal cells to facilitate in the absorption and transportation of substances that are filtered by the kidney. In the proximal convoluted tubules, the apical surface of the epithelium is lined with microvilli, creating a brush border, giving it a fuzzy appearance. The microvilli can aid in helping to transport material by “brushing” the......

Fannie Mae

...Paper Fannie Mae, also known as Federal National Mortgage Association was established in 1938 by amendments to the National Housing Act to provide local banks with federal money to finance home mortgages. This was an attempt to raise levels of home ownership and make affordable housing more available by creating a secondary market. Fannie Mae was authorized to buy Federal Housing Administration insured mortgages, replenishing the supply of lendable funds. In 1944 Fannie Mae was authorized to purchase loans guaranteed by the Veterans Administration, and in 1954 they become a mixed ownership corporation owned partly by private stockholders. In 1970 Fannie Mae transitioned from mixed ownership to private organization and was authorized to purchase conventional mortgages. Through the 80’s and 90’s Fannie Mae remained profitable through the use of adjustable rate mortgages and mortgage backed securities. In the late 1990’s and early 2000’s institutions in the primary mortgage market pressured Fannie Mae to ease credit requirements on the mortgages it was willing to purchase, enabling them to make loans to subprime borrowers. As housing prices dropped nationwide and foreclosures increased, Fannie Mae suffered large losses on various investments in their portfolio, such as sub-prime mortgages (loans made to borrowers with poorer-than average credit) and “private label” MBS’s (securities issued and insured by private companies without government backing). Fannie Mae also faced......

The Woman, the Myth, the Legend: Mae West—American Woman

...The Woman, The Myth, The Legend: Mae West—American Woman Abstract Born Mary Jane West in 1893, Mae was a strong, vivacious woman whose career spanned vaudeville, the small stage, The Great White Way and the silver screen. She is known for her over-accentuated figure and use of double entendres. Born the daughter of a prize fighter and immigrant, she grew up in the city of New York. She was doted on, as well as encouraged, by her mother, Tillie. She began performing at the age of four and was soon on stage where she came to life. She rarely attended school; getting her education on the stage instead. She became sexually active at a young age and learned to use her sexuality in her acts. After a number of years on stage and touring with various troupes, Mae began composing her own material. With the help of a writer, she produced a number of plays, many of which never made it to production. She always insisted on having control over her parts and lines, sometimes infuriating directors. Night After Night, her first movie, was her first foray in Hollywood and had her rewriting the entire role from its original version. The writer and director were against it, but Mae convinced studio heads to test both versions. They all agreed that Mae’s revisions were the way to go. While not a starring role, she stole the show as the hatcheck girl says to her, “Goodness, what beautiful diamonds,” Mae responds, “Goodness had nothing to do with it!” Mae continued making movies with......

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac

...Taylor Mast BUAD 445 TTH 1:10-2:25 Dr. Leinberger The Rescue of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac This paper analyzes the working paper of W. Scott Frame, Andreas Fuster, Joseph Tracy, and James Vickery and their views on the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac bailout as well as gives a background on the companies and how the bailout was structured and will affect both the government and both firms. At the end I will also take a look at a few views of others on the issue of the bailout. I think that this is a very important topic because it played a huge role during the recession. The financial crisis that started from 2007 to 2008 could have had a completely different outcome had the government not stepped in a bailed out these two large investment firms. It has been a topic of much controversy because it could have had a very different outcome had the government not stepped in to prevent two of the largest investment companies but on the flip side they spend a lot of tax payer money on helping private companies that have failed while the rest of the economy is struggling as well. On September 6th, 2008 a federal conservatorship was imposed on two companies named Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. These two government sponsored enterprises (GSE) play a very central role in the US finance system. This was one of the biggest events during the financial crisis. At the beginning of their conservatorships they held or guaranteed about $5.2 trillion of home mortgage debt. Both......
