...Bear Stearns & Co Bear Stearns & Co Answer the following 10 questions, using the financial statement data from Blockbuster Entertainment Corporation. Show your work (i.e., note what numbers you're using). On May 9, 1989, Bear Stearns & Co. issued a report on Blockbuster Entertainment Corp., which is reproduced in part below. Blockbuster-Entertainment (Ticker symbol: BV, Price per share: $33 ½) increased owned and franchised video stores from 19 at the end of 1986 to 415 at December 31, 1988. In the same period revenue jumped from $7.4 million to $136.9 million. Reported earnings also leaped; from $.34 per share in 1986 to $.57 per share in 1988. The stock carries an historical Price to Earnings ratio of 59, and there were 25,741,549 shares of common stock issued and outstanding as of 12/31/88. A) Some of Blockbuster's mergers with other video rental companies have been recorded as purchases. In a merger treated as a purchase, the price paid is first allocated to the fair values of assets that can be kicked, picked up or painted. Any excess paid for the company beyond these "fair values” becomes goodwill, which Blockbuster labels "intangible assets relating to acquired businesses." APB Opinion 17 requires that goodwill be amortized to income (expensed) over 40 years or less. In the past, many companies automatically adopted 40 year amortization. Current practice (which is usually required by the SEC) is to relate the amortization period to the nature of......

Co-Dependency

...Co-Dependents Anonymous Lessons On Living: Biblical Perspectives Co-Dependents anonymous or (CoDA) is an organization that was originally founded in 1986 by a man and women names Ken and Mary (Co-Dependents Anonymous, 1995). Ken and Mary were originally from Phoenix, Arizona and were part of an AA type fellowship for their codependent behaviors.  The sole purpose of this program is to follow a similar step as a typical AA meeting would. The program follows 12 steps in which a person admits his or her problems and eventually confronts their issues and turn their relationship into one that is healthy. It is designed to help individuals feel that they are co-dependent or possibly in an unhealthy relationship. Although this program is not setup to cure individuals, its objective is to give the individual a chance to accept that they have a problem, then face it, and find a way to rectify it. Until this can happen the person may remain unhappy and could not only be hurting themselves, but hurting those who matter most in their lives. After conducting my research on co-dependency, I chose to attend a twelve-step group meeting on co-dependency. The meeting was held at the city public library on a Wednesday evening by the organization, Co-Dependency Anonymous. I was expecting to walk into a room with chairs formed in a circle, but there were individual desks set up facing a white board. I took a seat towards the back of the room. The meeting was being held by a woman by the......

Mos 5201 Case Study

...MOS 5201 – Columbia Southern University October 14, 2013 Introduction When it comes to safety rules and regulations, there are many different sources to look for safety and health facts. In this paper we will be examining the safety and health facts for confined spaces, chromium and nickel in welding fumes, and thoriated tungsten electrodes, as they are presented in both the American Welding Society (AWS) safety and health fact sheets, as well as the course textbook, Occupational & industrial safety health management and engineering (2nd Custom ed.) and other official safety and health expert sources. It can be seen that there many similarities amongst safety regulations, as well as differences, depending on the topic at hand. Confined Spaces Confined Spaces are considered to be a very dangerous hazard for all industries. Cleaning, repair, or maintenance can often require entry inside confined spaces such as small rooms, pits, underground utility vaults, sewers, storage tanks, and so on, often where hot work will need to take place. Hot work in a confined space is characterized by limited space for entry or exit, and poor ventilation of air and other hazardous gases and fumes (Asfahl, Hammer, & Price, 2004/2001). OSHA 1910.146 specifies a permit-required confined space as an area that has one or more of the following characteristics: contains or has the potential to contain a hazardous atmosphere; contains a material that has the potential to engulf......

Co-Education

...Essay Introduction: Co-Education means the education of boys and girls together in the same institution and at the same time. In India, it has recently become common. In the recent past religious leaders and the people of conservative views did not favor the idea. They were even against the education of women, because they were not in favor of liberty and equality to be granted to women. But now times have changed. Co-education in India: Co-education is not a new thing for us. In the good old days when Sanskrit used to be the mother tongue in India and the Ashram were the seats of learning, co-education was widely practiced. In the Hindu scriptures, old records and legends, we find a number of examples which show that co-education was prevalent then. The practice continued till the advent of Muslim rule in India. With the Muslim rule came the degradation of women. The ‘Purdha’ system led to the discouragement of female education. Co-education in the West: In Europe Co-education is only of recent origin. Oxford and Cambridge universities kept their door tightly shut against woman till recently. But after the First World War, Co-education had tremendous rise in Europe and America. In America women have now begun to outnumber man in the school and colleges. Criticism in Favor and Against Co-education: For the very beginning powerful voices have been raised against this speedy march of co-education. Stephen Leacock, an eminent American educationist declares with emphasis,......

Nakakalito! Bakit kailangan itong mangyari? Bakit hindi pa ako tumakas kanina?......
