Listening Barrier: Information Overload

Effect on Interpersonal Communication:

I have been in situations, mostly within the work environment where there are so many concurrent processes going on that I lose track of a task. This is especially bad for me during my dealings with colleagues in person and online within webinars/go-to-meetings.

Strategy Used:

I often will momentarily stop and take a deep breath and try to focus on what takes the most priority and then attempt to shift and re-focus my attention to the task/speaker at hand. This comes in handy when trying to readjust things, especially during tense times.

Listening Barrier: External Noise

Effect on Interpersonal Communication:

In a world filled with honks, horns, city traffic, and just about everything under the sun (figuratively), how can we not be confronted with abominable noise within our daily lives. Luckily, since last year (2014), I have worked from home within my current position as a healthcare software programmer. However, that does not mean I have free from noise around the house. Simple things like the rogue turned on television to the inconvenience buzzing of electrical appliances seems to annoy me within certain crucial times of my work day.

Strategy Used:

What does one do? Unplug. When faced with times that I just can not listen anymore, I just try to focus my attention on a song or melody I like and try to block out all the noise from the ether and just hum a melody until I can effectively tune out the rest of the world and pay attention to the tasks at hand.

Listening Barrier: Self-Absorption

Effect on Interpersonal Communication:

I admit it. At times, my position and line of work get into my head. My mentality changes and I am easily affected by…...

...HAPPY MARRIAGES Rosa M. Curet COM200: Interpersonal Communication Nicole Coy 09.20.12 Happy Marriages In order for a marriage to be a happy marriage, communication is important. There is different ways a couple can communicate. A couple can make a happy marriage last for years by self-disclosure. I feel I can relate to this article on self-disclosure in relationships. My husband and I have always tried to communicate our thoughts and feelings with one another. It has been challenging at times, especially after having children. We mainly find our “10 minutes” around bed time."Ten minutes is not that long, when you think about it…it just means paying attention to your partner and asking one question (and responding when) they ask one question (Schoenberg, 2011)". A recent example, after my husband and I were settled down for the day, we were watching the news. The news has plenty of topics for communication. The topic came up about winning the lottery. My husband and I had a really good conversation of what we would do with the money if we had won it. It was very pleasing to know that we were fairly on the same page.   I do agree that self-disclosure is important and directly related to satisfaction in relationships. By being open and honest with each other on topics, it brings you a since of togetherness. It also opens up one’s soul. “The process of developing and deepening a relationship requires reciprocal and appropriate self-disclosure and the development of......

Marketing is the way a business introduces products and services to potential customers. This introduction is the beginning or sustainment of the businesses relationship with its customers. The most powerful and successful marketing strategies can even have an effect on social behavior and attitudes. Effective marketing strategies often instill a feeling that somehow the target audience will be better off, or have a better life if they would just go out and purchase their product. Additionally some marketing strategies can instill a feeling perhaps guilt in would be customer that they are somehow missing out, or may not be the best person they can be unless they purchase the product. Shoes for example may imply an improvement in a customer’s athleticism. Or perhaps a pain reliever will work better than the rest. ... COM200 WEEK 1 DISCUSSION 2 SEIF AND COMMUNICATION In Chapter Three of Making Connections: Understanding Interpersonal Communication, the author lays out many psychological concepts concerning the “self.” How do all these concepts relate to interpersonal communication? Also, give an example of how your “self-concept,” “self-image,” or “self-esteem” has affected your interpersonal communication. When you think about “self” you can also look at “self-concepts,” “self-image” or “self-esteem” interpersonal communication. The main thing I think about when talking about “self”. Someone with a real low self-esteem might have something important to say, but might be so very scare or even shy could not say what they wanted to say. I can say that at one time I had a problem with no self –esteem before I had a car accident five years ago. The thing is after my car accident everything changed now I have self- esteem, but not high self –esteem or self-esteem. In my own opinion “self-concepts”, “Self-image”, or “self-esteem” does relate to interpersonal communication, because with out most of these how can you communicate. There are so many people that might not have any of theses like self- image “or even “self-esteem”.  I know that there are still some times that my self-esteem does get low, because I am a double amputee and sometimes it makes me feel sad when someone one stares at me. The thing it does not bother when children come up to me and ask me where my legs are is. I tell them......

...Generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), created with authoritative support, are principles, rules and guidelines required to follow by accountants when preparing financial statements. The Hierarchy of GAAP is a structure consists of four different categories of well- developed accounting principles. The categories are from A to D with category A containing principles with the most authoritative support and category D having the lease. Major sources of The Hierarchy of GAAP are FASB Standard, Interpretations, and Staff Positions; APB Opinions; and AICPA Accounting Research Bulletins. This hierarchy is important because it minimize the financial data from being biased and inconsistency by using multiple sources of the GAAP instead of just one. For example, if two or more sources in a given category do not agree with a specific transaction, then a higher category should be followed. Two primary qualities that make its accounting information effective are relevance and reliability. Relevant information has predictive value, which help users foretell the outcome of events in the past, present, and future. Another reason relevant information is effective is that it is presented in a timely manner early enough for the user to consider when making a decision. It also helps users clarified and adjusted expectations in the past because relevance information has feedback value. Reliability is another quality that makes its accounting information effective.......

That means that the requirement of certain kinds of contracts are memorialized in a writing, signed by the party to be changed, with sufficient content to evidence the contract. These are traditionally required in different cases that affect more than one party. Examples of this would be consideration of marriage, contracts that cannot be fulfilled on one year and contracts for the sale of goods totaling $500 or more. In these cases, if a defendant is going to use Statute as a defense, must be raised in a timely manner. If the defendant claims that a contact existed, under oath, it may ne be used by the defense under the UCC but can be used by common law. Exceptions to this are Admission which was just discussed, Merchant conformation rule, and Easements by implication.
