Home Schooling vs. Public Schooling
The grand cartoonist Al Capps once said, “Any place that anyone can learn something useful from someone with experience is an educational institution.”(Capps) This statement evokes thought of exactly what defines a “school.” Can any place be called a school? Certainly the home can be called a school as there are around 1.5 million children in the United States are homeschooled. Home schooled children are able to practice their religion, can have a different curriculum, and different disciplinary actions, but both can lead to a well educated student. Public schools, even with all of their bad press, are still the most popular way to educate a child (Homeschool Or Public School? 2012)
According to, which provides legal analysis of home school laws, someone that is interested in homeschooling their children should follow the law of the state in which they reside. Laws governing home school education vary by state and according to the 10th Amendment of the Constitution the power to regulate all forms of education belong to the states. Homeschooling is included in this protection. The Constitution states that the federal government is not allowed to interfere with or control public or private forms of education. The progression requirements for home schooled children do differ state by state and the federal government has no laws or regulations that affect home schooling []. About 25 states only require some form of acknowledgement from the child’s guardian that they are attending home school with no further notification to the state required. This means there is no monitoring whether or not the child that is said to be homeschooling is in fact receiving any schooling. Whereas the other states require…...

...basis over the internet. Immediate news media has had a significant effect on our culture. It allows us to get the news as it happens, and become more aware and involved. The internet would be my biggest competition, and I need to keep this in mind when making decisions for the station. The station has to try and keep up with the internet whenever possible. With this being said, I am faced with the task of deciding what story should be used as the lead story during our next broadcast. Right now I have two stories that have great potential to be lead stories. I need to come up with the solution that will benefit both the television station and the viewers. The first story is about the city council voting to close city parks three days a week to save money. With this story I would like to have as many viewers tuned in as possible, because this is an issue that could affect the lives of those who use the city’s parks. The second story is about the death of a major celebrity. I know this story will get the viewers’ attention, and it will get the station higher ratings which directly affects the station. Although, I feel the city park story is more important and relevant to my viewers, it is my responsibility to keep up the ratings of my station. My solution would be to run the death of the celebrity as the lead story. Although, the importance of this story to my viewers is much less, I know that it is information that people want to hear about. Entertainment is a huge part......

...One of the most important improvements with an online education is its flexibilities. It has enabled higher education to a great deal of individuals not able to attend regular school for various reasons. Teachers will post the lessons in the learning sections in the school’s online student portal. Students can submit the requirements of the course online and also take their exams online. However, schools structure traditional education in a firm boundary. The traditional route of education consists of a strict learning schedule, which is more appropriate for full time students. The students have to adhere to the schedule and have to attend regular classes at the university campus. They usually submit the course studies by either writing on paper or typing and printing it out. They also take exams at the university campus. Online education requires that at least 80 percent or more of the course studies are to be submitted online by using suitable technology with few social interactions. It shifts the teacher and student dynamics. Teachers become facilitators of learning who encourage, guide and stimulate the student’s learning by providing instructions that are adjusted for self-regulated study. Teachers authorize students with freedom and with the responsibility of setting their own learning, instead of concentrating on the delivery of instruction. Online education is perfectly suited to encourage a student concentrated learning approach. The student concentrated learning is......

...T.M Kaplan University May 20, 2013 Final Project Final Project Understanding and applying organizational behavior concepts and skills can make or break an organization. As a Starbucks employee for over two years I was able to identify many areas in which Starbucks applied various organizational behavior concepts in order to foster a positive work environment. Starbucks has successfully used three primary organizational behavior concepts in order to promote a positive work environment and strengthen the organization. These concepts include organizational culture, organizational motivation, and organizational structure. Implementing these concepts has not only created positivity and fostered a team environment between employees, but it has also created an environment where goals are reached, and customers are satisfied. One key component of Starbucks is the consistency both in product and service. Employees are friendly and customer oriented, and the standards for products held high. As an employee of Starbucks I was trained according to these standards, and new what would be expected of me as a customer service representative prior to being hired. Starbucks has applied the concept of organizational culture in order to foster consistency across the organization, no matter how many new stores open, or where they are located. Organizational culture is defined as a system of shared meaning held by members that distinguishes the organization from other......

...Compare Contrast Essay Week 9 COM 155 Winston Miller Whole Foods versus Processed Foods Did you know that Cancer can be caused by the food you eat? Studies reveal that eating processed food on a regular or constant basis can be the cause of cancer, heart disease and many other health problems. Processed foods are any foods that are changed from their natural form. Many people buy these foods at the grocery store on a daily basis not realizing the potential health risk. Processed foods are preserved with chemicals, additives, and colors as well as sweeteners, and have very long shelf lives. Aspartame is a substitute sweetener which is used in most sugar substitutes such as “Sweet N Low,” “Equal,” and “Splenda.” Aspartame’s appeal is that it has less calories than real sugar but it has been linked to causing problems like Multiple Sclerosis. Most people are attracted to processed foods because they are fast and easy to prepare. There are other processed foods that have been linked to diseases such as: Trans fats, high fructose corn syrup, sugar, and monosodium glutamate or MSG. Trans fats are found in all processed foods and fast food. They are linked to heart disease, cancer, skin issues, learning disabilities, and stunted growth. High fructose corn syrup is widely used in the US and it has been found that Americans ingest over 67 pounds of it a year. ...bad that she’s not celebrating with them, and no one wants their loved ones to feels bad. She always has to be mindful that in times past Jehovah’s Witnesses were put in prison for their beliefs. Her religion does not require her to dress in a certain way, but modesty in dress is encouraged. There are no specific foods that are part of her daily diet for religious reasons, but for scriptural reasons she abstains from foods that are bloody, for example rare bloody steak. She feels that she has never questioned her faith in her religion since converting to Jehovah’s Witness. She grew up in the Catholic Church as a non-baptized Catholic and then converted to a Jehovah’s Witness. She prays every day and attends services about once every two weeks. She believes that the preaching work she does is the most unique part of her religion. The preaching work is encouraged and is telling people that God has a personal name, which is Jehovah. Also, through the preaching work, reminding people that one day, in God’s kingdom ruled by Jesus, we will no longer have the problems that we have today. The one thing she would want people to know most about her religion is that it is a religion of love for mankind. There are many ways to compare the Jehovah’s Witnesses with more widely accepted versions of Christianity. While there are many differences between traditional Christians and the Jehovah’s Witnesses, there are also many things they have in common. This common ground can help both......

...these past nine weeks I have learned so much that I have truly changed as a person to try not to be prejudice towards others. In the past honestly I was very prejudice towards others just by their looks. There are many ways that diversity means for things in the world. So many things are different in the world, but that doesn’t mean we need to be prejudice about things or people. The things I have learned about my own racial, ethnic, and cultural history is that race doesn’t matter. I know that whites use to be the most popular race in the world but that has changed a lot in the last century. Whites are now the third most popular race in the world. For ethnic there are many different groups in my race. Groups like Christians in my race many people are Christians so they are considered an ethnic group. Things I have learned about ethnics are that there are so many different types of groups in the world. They don’t need to be judged or criticized. There are many ethnics about Americans. Cultural history in my race is things that have shaped the world today. Americans have come a very long way in life. They have shaped this world to what it is today. It is a strong nation, one that is always going to fight for their country. A new report from the Pew Research Center projects that immigration will propel the U.S. population total to 438 million by the year 2050. Right now we are at 303 million and the year 2014. Week 9 Final Acc/290

...Week 9 Final Kim Rosnik 6-21-15 Over the course of our semester, we have went over many different aspects that deal with accounting. In week 4 we had to pick a company and look at the public assets that they have and describe them per the questions that were required. For the final we have to add to the paper by answering more questions about the same company. The company that I have chosen from is still General Motors. However, we will be focusing more on the assets of the company rather than sales and company worth. We will be analyzing the company’s assets and liabilities. We will then look at these and decipher if the company would be a good investment for private investors, banks, and employees. Taking a look at the GM’s assets I can see that the company has listed their assets in the right order. A company should list their assets in this order; cash & cash equivalents, stocks and investments, accounts receivable through services, Inventory, and fixed assets. GM has listed their cash & cash equivalents first, as of March 31, 2015, as 17,190,000. They then list their Short term Investments as 8,409,000. Next are net receivables as 37,400,000. Inventory is 14,051,000. Lastly is other assets and this shows as 6,181,000. This totals to the amount of 83,231,000 in total assets. While liquid assets play a huge role, classification of the assets play a huge role as well. The classifications of assets are as follows; current, investments,......

...not adequate, or if countermeasures to possible problems are not in place. Above, I have outlined my floor plan, and now I will explain the positive aspects of my personal plan. Our first discussion points are: Possible threats: [pic] Fires [pic] Theft or fraud [pic] Bombings or bomb threats [pic] Information theft/hacking [pic] Burglary or armed robbery [pic] Kidnapping and Ransom Risk Assessment: Fires: Is is important that flammable things are always labeled and in the right place, and that no walkways are blocked. A store's chemicals are sometimes fire hazards, so ensuring that they are always in the right place limits the danger of fire. Theft or Fraud: Papers or documents can be used by unauthorized people. Documents that have important information should not be left lying around – these could be used for fraudulent purposes, or they might have computer access codes on them. Information theft/hacking: All computer networks need to be updated with security protocols – this keeps hackers from having access to your company's information. Ransom or Armed robbery: It may seem bizarre, but every successful organization could be targeted for kidnapping and ransom, so the threat must be heeded. If an important staff member or a management executive is kidnapped, the company can be held up for their ransom. Remember that it is not always easy to tell if a person is armed – armed men......

I learned of different diseases that can be obtained from eating at an unclean and unsanitary restaurant which has also helped steered me away from eating at them. I like cooking at home since I am in control of how it is prepared and know the area that I am cooking in is clean. I have also increased my water intake to drinking half of my body weight in ounces and totally eliminating the unhealthy beverages I was drinking. My level of exercise was pretty much zero outside of work, and I have no excuse for it other than flat out being lazy. I work at a job that provides discounted gym member ships so I have purchased a membership and I am now taking a spin class four days a week. I have changed from zero exercise to now walking two miles a day and spending an hour in each spin class this has helped increase my cardio, while working my arms, legs, and stomach muscles. At first the walking was difficult. I would walk for 30 minutes and I would be ready to sit down. I pushed myself each day and now I feel really good and want to start jogging two miles rather than walking. In the last two years I gained approximately 55 pounds due to my lack of exercise and unhealthy eating. So far during this course I have lost 23 pounds all due to changing my eating habits and exercises. My level of energy is through the roof compared to what it was. One thing I did not do in the past dieting and exercising is insure I have......

...Part One: Being the director of a local new station, I would cover the local story first with a high recap of the celebrity death to follow. When people tune into the news, they want to know what is happening around them first. A celebrity death will make headlines on every kind of network, but the local happenings will only be the local newscast and be more vital. The park story will have more meaning to the people of the community and could affect the everyday happenings for them. With cities closing parks 3 days a week to save money, I would want to the communities to know why and how this will change their everyday lives and schedules. How was closing the parks 3 days a week chosen to save money or some other programs that could be out there. How is the closing of the parks going to affect the city workers jobs that maintain the parks? I would also want to inform the communities of why the money is being saved and what the funds are being used for instead. It would be important to inform the people of options that they may to help get the parks reopened if necessary or who they would try and petition to help with it as well. After covering the local community story of park closures, I would cover the celebrity death with as much accuracy as I could. People will continue to talk about the celebrity death for a long time, so it can be covered after the more pertinent local story. Celebrity stories tend to be very wide spread and have enough coverage with the different......
