Case Study: Carl RobinsAfter spending time reviewing the situation Carl Robbins finds himself in, and the amount of stress he will cause all those that he works for; such as Monica Carrolls and Joe from technology services. It will not be easy for him to get out of the mess he finds himself in, but it was lack of communication as well as procrastination that got him into this trouble in the first place so he needs to improve on his communication skills as well as set his priorities straight. Carl feels like he has failed everyone, and he feels that he cannot grasp the scope of where it began to go wrong. He thought he had the hiring process and the training process under control, he realized he was far from the truth. He will need to take control of the situation and build timelines for when areas of concern will be addressed accordingly.

Carl Robin
Carl finds himself way over his head in his new position as the new campus recruiter for ABC, Inc. His first as a recruiter was to recruit 15 people to work for the Monica Carroll the operations manager. He hired 15 people without really completing the required paperwork and whether or not they were qualified to fill the position requirements. Now Carl finds himself stressed out because he failed to get the testing complete and he realized that his training will conflicts with another trainer and the company software trained. Based on the information presented it is safe to say Carl procrastinated and he did not review the applications and he failed to send people to get drug tested in a timely manner. He made empty promises to Monica the operations supervisor and she is making decisions based in the information she received from Carl Background.
Carl Robins is the new campus recruiter for ABC, Inc. Among some of his new responsibilities is the hiring of new employees for the company. The new hire process consists of making sure that the drug testing is complete, the training materials are intact, and that he has an area where to set up new hire training. He was asked by the operations manager if he had all the necessary materials to begin the training in July, and he responded yes. Carl was nowhere near ready and he procrastinated in the preparing the new hires and setting up all the requirements for the training process.

* Lack of Knowledge on Carls part * Lack of Manager oversight * Procrastination * Lack of communication * Not understanding his job duties

Lack of knowledge on his new job: Perhaps Carls job duties were not explained thoroughly to him, however when a new job is acquired, the job should have been researched and understood so surprises like this could have been avoided.
Lack of Manager Oversight: The case study does not focus on Carl’s immediate manager, it gives the impression that Carl is free to do as he pleases. Carl either lacks supervision or he is overwhelmed with other duties that are assigned to him.
Procrastination: This one word says it all. He focused on other duties and failed to make this a priority, and now he is suffering the repercussions. This happens to so many people because sometimes you rather sit and chat with a co-worker and tell yourself, it will be done tomorrow.
Lack of Communication: communication is key in any business, and Carl does not possess the skills to have an open communication with his coworkers. Monica called to ask him how the hiring was going and he responded without knowing his facts. He witnessed Joe setting up training and he failed to ask him about the training either.
Not understanding his job duties: Carl apparently does not understand his role as a recruiter thoroughly and is not solely to blame. When a person is promoted or hired for any position, it is the manager’s responsibility to go over the new job descriptions with the recent hire or promotion.

Possible Solutions.

What was going through Carl’s head when he made the decision to hire 15 people and what caused him to hold up on the drug testing? Normally drug tests do not take too long, however, he failed to remember these are 15 people and he cannot send all 15 people at the same time, because the drug testing facility could have other people scheduled from other companies. If Carl hired 15 people at the beginning of April what caused him to wait until the end of May to look at his paperwork? Was he overwhelmed in his new position? Why did Carl not seek guidance in the hiring process, since this was his first recruiting effort? He probably does not have much experience in the hiring process, so he could have unclear answers for challenging questions in the hiring process? Is being the new recruiter for ABC. Inc. gone to Carls head and tainted his way of thinking, in other words did he get too cocky? Did he develop arrogance with his new job that he was too busy absorbing his job title and did not set his priorities straight? He needs to understand the significant impact all this will have on his co-workers and the 15 people he hired since he told them they were to starting their new training in June and their job in July. Did he take into consideration that they might have given their two week notice at another job? How is Carl being considerate of all these people that will be impacted by his job knowledge or lack thereof? He did not show a sign of remorse just guilt. One of the first steps Carl should have done was to ensure all the applications were reviewed in a timely manner. After he distinguished which people qualified for the position he should have sent those people to get the drug test out of the way and once the results were in then proceed with the hiring process. All of this could have been done prior to Labor Day, and he had no explanation why he waited that long to review the applications. None of the paperwork or was prepared and he discovered once he reviewed the applications. He failed to ask Monica for help in preparing the paperwork and check if the forms were complete. He should have gone to Joe or should have mentioned it to all managers about the orientation he wanted to have so that they knew that he would be using the training room in June. If any conflicts arose then he could have spoken to Joe and find another resolution for the training Joe was having in June. He should have paid closer attention to what Monica was asking and not ensure her that it would all be handled on time, and for her not to worry. Monica is now in the process to set the wheels in motion with her immediate management and is going by the information Carl gave her. Monica is expecting all to go smoothly and the training to go as expected so that she can have her staff ready in July. He should have wasted little or no time in this process and he could have perhaps had the orientation training done in the month of May instead of June. With the new software training in June, will this impact the 15 new hires and what benefit will this have on new trainers so that they get trained first with the new database instead of double training later. Carl’s job is to recruit new hires and set the training in motion. He needs to have all of the paperwork associated with new hires prepared so that human resourced can proceed with the hiring process. He needs to understand the how he can reserve the training room and not wait until the last minute, now he could create dissension amongst all the work with him especially Monica and Joe.

Conclusion.
Carl is faced with a world of trouble and sitting on his desk asking, “What am I going to do?” I would recommend that he go and talk to his immediate manager or supervisor and seek help with the applications and drug testing. Call the people that have incomplete applications and have them come in so that the applications can be resolved. He should also talk to Monica regarding the start date and when and how he plans to get the orientation done. Seek a different location in case Joe cannot accommodate him somehow. Going for a walk and sitting on his desk contemplating what is he going to do, will not help solve the issue, it will just prolong his inability to get the job done without further aggravating the situation.

Areas I corrected

I re arranged my Analyze Essay based on my peers reviews because they made suggestions that it was difficult to follow. They stated that they did not understand where my conclusion was. Some peers gave my paper kind reviews and offered some suggestions such as break points, to let the reader know I stood. I took their suggestions to heart and I tried to make my paper comparable to theirs. I added key points and I added solutions to the scenario given. I hope I make it justice.
