Building a payroll program for a large organization with offices spread across the United States has many changelings and most be done in a particular way. Thus having the right application architecture is important where the design is concerned, because the company has one large data center that each office connects to via a wide area network (WAN). Hence the appropriate architecture for this situation would have to consist of a WAN diagram to be used in management of this project, along with system documentation, and information technology architecture documents to provide a visual representation of the network. Wide area networks (WANs) cover a large, physical area. Many WANs cover entire buildings, cities, states, or regions. Thus the primary purpose of my WAN is to link together local area networks, of these other offices spread across the country

Payroll Program

* In this Payroll program the case study has been centered on having the proper application architecture that would be effective for the situation at hand. It would take into consideration where what equipment needs to be and where its physical location should be as to be effective for the organization. Thus an effective system would combine elements into an architecture, or design, that is flexible, cost-effective, technically sound, and able to support the information needs of the business. There would be a logical design of the payroll system into a physical structure, which would include hardware, software, network support, and processing methods. Therefore some type of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) would have to be established in order to determine the strategy/ies for using IT resources in the new payroll application. There would also be a supply…...

...Case Study Best-Book-Buy Online Bookstore Requirements Specification Document (By Henrique Paques, Leo Mark and Shamkant B. Navathe) 1. Introduction The purpose of this case study is to present a data-intensive application for which a database can be designed. It is described with sufficient degree of detail so that the application can be implemented in languages like Java or C using ODBC or JDBC connectivity to the relational database. This case study is an illustration of the typical project we have been using to teach an undergraduate class in database design that covers essentially the first 16 chapters of the textbook at Georgia Tech. The user interface is defined in screen format – these screens can be implemented using Visual Basic or Java as needed, or a simpler version of the interface using simple text menus may be implemented. There are a few reports included in the application specification. They are for illustrative purposes and may be modified as well. The methodology to be followed uses conceptual design in the Entity Relationship Model (Chapter 3), followed by a mapping of the ER schema into the relational schema (Chapter 7). The application is broken into a number of tasks and the inputs and outputs are related to the tasks by means of an Information Flow Diagram. Students should use Chapter 12 to understand the overall process of database design used for design of large databases. A design methodology is developed during the discussion of......

...Week 5 Checkpoint XMGT 216 Management Case Study Date: March 5, 2013 To: Mallorie Perea Subject: Proposed payroll reduction Dear Mrs. Perea: Division managers have been instructed to reduce our payroll by 15%. In my division of Austin Pharmaceuticals we have approximately 50 employees, several who are long-time employees. We have recently added several new employees, mostly women and minorities to enhance diversity within our division. These new employees are valuable assets to this division which gives us new ways of marketing to other regions that we have not been able to acquire in the past. All of these employees in this division are all above average, so to select a few to reduce their payroll is very tough. Everyone in this division does an outstanding job. Every employee in my division is important, valuable and essential to the achievement of this division. What I would like to recommend to the company is something I have seen in other organizations that are having financial difficulties and adversities. We do not necessarily need to cut whole positions, but decrease on hours and a decrease in pay for each division employee. By decreasing wages by 11% and each person decreasing their hours by four hours per week, we can decrease payroll by 15%. I have spoken with my team and though they are not pleased by the decrease in wages and hours, they all see eye to eye they would more willingly keep the team together rather than reducing positions...

Case Study the Pay-for-Performance Program Among Denver Teachers Hits a Roadblock Case Questions

...says. Technology chief Warrior says that she was skeptical when she first came to Cisco in March from Motorola (MOT, Fortune 500). But she became a believer when she and others from different divisions forged a part-nership with an outside company in a single council meeting. What would have required multiple meetings at other firms "took the four of us on a phone call," she says. Such quick decision making could help Cisco ex-ecute some key acquisitions in the current slowdown. For many big companies, belt-tightening usually means putting off big decisions until conditions improve. Cisco, with $26 billion in cash, has the coffers—and apparently the management structure to immediately start shopping. The Pay-for-Performance Program among Denver Teachers Hits a Roadblock The Denver Public Schools' pay-for-performance plan to motivate teachers was hailed as a model for the rest of the country when it took effect three years ago. It now stands on the verge of collapse after months of contract negotiations have stalemated. Some teachers have staged sick-outs: others plan to welcome families back to school this week by handing out fliers denouncing the district's contract offer. There is even talk of a strike. National education experts are dismayed. If merit pay can't work in Denver, "future initiatives are destined to fail," said Matthew Springer, director of the National Center on Performance Incentives at Vanderbilt Uni-versity in Tennessee. ...Case Study: Developing an Overweight Program James Brandt ENG/215CA - Effective Academic Writing October 17, 2013 Joseph San Juan Case Study: Developing an Overweight Program Throughout history, the United States Army has had a proud heritage and reputation of being the greatest fighting force in the world. Study Away Programs

... Study Away Programs Is Not A Waste Of Time Name Institution Study away programs is not a waste of time There have been various debates on the value of studying abroad for the past few years. This debate was initiated after the New York Times started asking questions on whether this study away program is a waste of time. Those supporting these programs claimed that these studies were important since it prepares the students for life in an increasingly interconnected world. The people against it see it as a waste of time and money. Statistics shows that 273,996 of the United States students studied abroad for academic credit in the years 2010-2011. This number formed one percent of the total students enrolled in post-secondary education. Misinformation has been found to be a major reason for the small percentage of youngsters considering studying abroad. Most believe that studying abroad is luxurious and that there is nothing to benefit from it. This essay is meant to discuss whether study programs are just a waste of time (Collingwood, 2008). Some students believe that study away programs do not add value to one's life. The reality to this doubts and beliefs is different. The fact that the mode of teaching varies in different parts of the world and one may not be used to them does not make studying less valuable. In addition to the formal form of learning in classrooms, learning also takes place outside the classroom. In Studying abroad one gains more......

...Chapter II Review of Related Literature This chapter includes foreign literatures and foreign studies taken from the internet, other unpublished thesis, and studies conducted by other research groups. This chapter also includes local literatures, taken from local published books and materials, and local studies, taken from research works and studies related to the subject matter. Related foreign and local literature and studies that dealt with theories, principles, concepts, approaches and techniques are reviewed which contributed a lot towards the enrichment of knowledge, deeper understanding and insight of the researchers. Foreign Literature One of the more significant economic statistics to be released of late concerns labor productivity. This is an interesting topic and widely non-understood concept -- very few people understand either what it is or why it really matters. Simply stated, labor productivity measures the amount (or value) of output generated per hour worked. Why does it matter? Greater labor productivity enables firms to produce a given amount of goods or services with a smaller number of labor hours. And, since payroll cost is related to the number of hours they use, this helps firms control their costs, making their enterprises more profitable.  Wages are not the correct measure the cost of labor to a firm. In economics, it doesn’t just focus on the costs of an activity, such as wages here. It looks at both costs and benefits......

Management Case Study.

...Management Case Study Ken Drake XMGT/216 October 28, 2011 Dan Mitchell Axia College of the University of Phoenix Management Case Study Mr. Austen: I am sending you this short response to your request to reduce payroll by 15%. I have begun a study of the problem and wish to describe for you the actions I plan to take to reach this goal. As you may be aware, the company recently hired some new employee’s, women, and minorities, to remedy a lack of diversity in the workplace. This has presented problems in completing my task because of ethical issues and my own moral beliefs of making these new workers the answer to the problem. It is to this end that I am changing directions and moving away from seniority and job performance and looking for other ways to cut payroll. I called for a meeting of the employees in my department this morning and described the payroll problem to them, and asked for suggestions. After some silence, several people who have been with the company the longest offered to take a temporary cut in pay to help. Others offered to work three days less during the month, and all have agreed to the changes in schedule to cover the empty spots. I am working on an incentive program to boost production on the days that all of the employees are together and to give the employees that have opted for pay cuts to get some money coming in to cover the loss. After doing some calculations, I believe we can meet the 15% payroll reduction, plus 1%, with no losses...
