Competencies and Interests Profiler
The two career competencies that were the strongest for me are coping with pressure and networking with four out of five bars that were colored in on the results scale found on the student website. I had three out of five bars colored in for the writing, adapting to change, taking initiative, and presenting. These seven areas of competencies show that I have the ability to be a very strong critical thinker.
In the coping with pressure category the survey states that I have the ability to control my emotions and keep a very positive outlook in a problem solving situation. For the networking category I am good with meeting new people, and use my personality to keep strong relationships with others. Under the writing category I have the ability to use logic to make a piece of writing very easy to read without using too much technical jargon. In the adapting to change category the survey states that I have the ability to adapt to new situations and ideas in order to work well with others. For the taking initiative category I have the ability to work without being directed by others and can make decisions without hesitation. Finally, for the presenting category the survey states that I have the confidence to have a strong presence when speaking in front of large groups.
As a strong critical thinker I will need to work on my ability to be more responsive to variables that are thrown in my direction. Thinking on the fly is a strong area that I excel in, but I have the ability to be even better at it with some hard work. Presenting information during a debate takes critical thinking to another level and I think that if I was involved in more debates I would be able to become a better critical thinker in the…...

...CAREER PLAN BUILDING Name MGT/521 June 3, 2013 DENNIS BOEDEKER CAREER PLAN BUILDING Understanding ones strengths is very important to grow as a communicator and manager. By knowing what competencies he or she excels in, they can use them as an advantage at home and in the workplace. In my case, the career plan building activity showed my strongest competency to be innovation. In order to be a successful manager; one must embrace new ideas and change with technology. Although it is comfortable to stick with what works, it is important to make sure to filter in new ideas and continue to get better. Entrepreneurial thinking is one of my weakest competencies according to the career plan building activity. I would have to agree with this considering I hate to take risk. I love to innovate and try new ideas as long as there is no risk. This is definitely an area that I need to work on as a manager. It is so easy to invest on a sure thing, but sometimes some initiative and the need to take a chance is a necessity. In closing, I think all of my competencies need to be worked on to become a better communicator. The career plan building activity scored me high for innovation and average for all my other competencies. New to the area of management, it is obvious I have a large amount of work to strengthen my communication skills. Instead of staying content in a practical job, I think I need to step out of the box to enhance my future. The career planner should......

...Career Plan Building When I completed the Work Culture Preference test I wasn’t surprised by the results, I had taken a similar test before and both of them were almost identical. It only re enforced that I am in the right path. The resources that I will definitely use from my career plan is how to write a resume I want my resume to be consistent, concise, and clear and easy to read. Because if it's not, my resume and cover letter won't get a second glance from any hiring manager. Now in days most companies use recruiting management software to screen candidates for job openings. Resume keywords are the words that those hiring managers search for when going through their database of resumes. In order to get found, your resume needs to contain keywords that directly target the jobs you are interested in. Something else that I will definitely will be using is how to professional network You’re looking for a new job, so you hit the circuit of industry events every week, asking every person you meet to help you find your new gig I use to have a boss that said after all, it’s not what you know, it’s who. And I told him well, yes. But give people some credit if you pursue networking opportunities purely for the job prospects, your contacts will figure you out. You will leave them feeling used, and they will be less likely to recommend you for an opportunity so I don’t know what direction to got to. ...2014 Career Interests and Profiler The results of my Career Plan are beyond ridiculous. After completing this necessary step in my continuing education, I took the tests with great hope and interest as to what results it would come up with for me. To state that I was disappointed is an understatement. As you, the reader of this paper, do not know me personally, you do not know my life experiences, what I have been taught or what I have learned from my teachers, mentors, coaches, and most importantly my father. Neither does the Career Plan test. Therefore, the results should be based on my answers, which would be derived from my own personal learning and experiences. Based on this, I would have thought that the Career Plan would have made choices based on my 51 years of life. It did not. I have always enjoyed working with my hands. My father was an electrician. He was also very talented with other trades, such as pipe fitting, plumbing, and just about everything related to manual labor. To say that he taught me a lot is an understatement. I learned how to fill fire extinguishers at the age of 8. I also learned basic electrical wiring and was able to do complex motor control by the time I was 18. By the time I was 21, I was a certified welder in 4 different welding processes. Most recently, I built an electrical contracting business with 15 employees, and over $2 million dollars in yearly sales. My point is that I do very well with “hands-on” work. When my Career......

Believing in the person making the claim or believing the actual claim. ...Career Plan Reflection Chantel Silva-Labrador BCOM/275 July 1, 2014 M. Kizzie Career Plan Reflection Career plan building is a foundation that one may take into account when marketing themselves in the employment world. Having a clear understanding as to what their individual behavior skills and competencies are, along with a better understanding of the individual’s strengths and weaknesses when critical thinking is involved can help in determining the individuals occupational interest. In conjunction to this, work cultural values and preferences can play into what groups the individual will be able to identify with on a professional level and allow them to perform and communicate more effectively. An excerpt from Career Competencies for Managing Cross-Cultural Transition by Nancy Arthur, explains that “people need to be prepared for working with others whose cultural background is different to their own…a frame work for understanding…career development practices need to be expanded…in a world that is increasingly characterized by cross-cultural transition” (Arthur, 2000). The business communications course taken by this author revealed various things from her perspective. While the career assessments have revealed additional fields of interest, the course has also given her insight as to how the various forms of communications are channeled, specific names given to various forms of arguments, and what details should be identified in various forms of fallacies. ...Career Plan Reflection Mabi Verduzco BCOM 275 October 23, 2014 Linda Doyle Career Plan Reflection The career plan building activities proved to be a very useful tool. The work culture preference survey results indicated the type of work culture that I prefer, which is high-powered, competitive, and leadership intensive. The competencies, reasoning aptitude, and career interest profiler surveys provided additional information to consider. The combined results provide an interpretation of the type of work culture that I see as ideal, the most suitable career fields, and the types of work environments I prefer. I am open to new information and ideas and the survey results did not seem to be too far off from what I would consider to be my true career goals and desires. I think the surveys provided insight to aspects of my career I had not given much thought to before this course. This course (BCOM/275) discussed many important aspects of communication verbal and nonverbal, cross-cultural communication, and barriers to effective communication to name a few. One aspect in the forefront of my mind is communication also takes place within different contexts like physical, chronological, and functional, to name a few, but the cultural context (corporate culture) applies directly to the surveys and results discussed earlier. Choosing the proper job that corresponds with my interests and ideal work culture can lead to more personal satisfaction. BCOM/275 provides ideas about......

The next steps I will take to complete my career plan are to list the skills that I desire and seek training, and keep my knowledge up-to-date in my field. As part of the process of achieving my career goals, I have decided to pay special attention to the taking initiative and leading aspects of my career plan. It will also help me take the initiative in certain projects, and ultimately be a better leader, which are important qualities that a manager must possess to efficiently lead a group of employees. Based on the results of the competencies survey (University of Phoenix, 2013), to complete successfully the courses that follow I need to focus on organizing and strategizing the required tasks.
