Introduction
I am pleased our company decided to expand the W Hotel to Brazil. Brazil is a great place to start a new service business at, especially a hotel. Brazil is a place where the culture believes in diversity. Also they consider themselves to be Americans as well. Therefore they do not mind using U.S products or services. They are a people that believe in family and that family is a key part to life. Brazil is a place that is filled with variety and is not afraid to allow new cultures to their part of the world.
Cultural Analysis
In Brazil, the primary language is Portuguese. It was the Brazilians’ first language, but over time immigrants such as Italians, Germans, Japanese, and Spanish-speaking introduced new words and expression to their language. It is much easier for some Brazilians to understand Spanish language than other Latin American countries. The Portuguese they speak in Brazil is different from what they speak in Portugal. The language is so different. It’s just like the English spoken in the United States. However, in Brazil there are many customs. In fact, their daily communication style of Brazilian locals is typically relaxed and relatively informal. It is not unusual during a conversation to be interrupted. Although it’s not rude in their culture. Also, when communicating with locals they often touch each other lightly and stand close together. This is not to be mistaken as flirtation or inappropriate behavior. In addition, Capeoira is a unique form of martial arts that is special to Brazil. It came from the African people in Brazil. A tradition to Brazilians in Brazil is celebrations and carnivals. The two famous celebration are Lemanja and Boa Morte. The Boa Morte is a three-day religious celebration in Salvador that includes religion, music, and dance. In addition, festival and carnivals represent the mixing of Portuguese, African, and Native Indian cultures.
Demographic
Brazil is a country that has a population that keeps growing over time. As of January 2014 there are 201.03 million people in Brazil. It reached its highest population number in history. It is the fifth populous in the world. The population growth rate in 0.8 percent. Their population in made up of 55 percent of European, 38 percent of a mixture of cultures, 6 percent of African and 1 percent of Amerindian. In addition, around 29 percent of the population is between 0-14 years old, 66 percent id between 15-64 years old, and 5 percent over 65 years old. The median age for males is 29.9 percent and females 31.5. The literacy rate is male 90.7 percent and female 90.7 percent. Also, the life expectancy is 74 years old.
Social Institutions
According to Geert Hofstede Brazil, score a 69 in power distance, believes chain of commands in their country is respected, and differences amongst people are acceptable. Brazil score and 38 in Individualism it means the people in this country from birth onwards are being incorporated into strong, cohesive groups. They protect their groups’ members in exchange for loyalty a lot of the time it close and extended family members. In Uncertainty avoidance, Brazil scores a 76. Brazil shows a strong need for rules and elaborate legal system in order to have a structured life. In masculinity, Brazil scores a 49. In Brazil, they place a higher value on people, quality of life and nurturing. In fact in Brazil family is the base of the social structure and customs the source of stability for most people. Also in Brazil they have sturdy relationship with extend family as well that includes aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousin, godparents, and close friends. Besides it is usually to find three generation in Brazil staying under one roof. Also, children are an essential part of families they are expected to contribute to the overall wellbeing of the entire family. In this country, children are welcome to participate in adult activities. On the hand, family, kinship, and friendship have a critical role in both social and business interactions. In addition, in Brazil 90 percent of the population believe in some religion, and only 1 percent do not believe in God. In forms of a Christian religion in Brazil are Catholic, Protestant, Methodist, Episcopal, Pentecostal, Lutheran, and Baptist. Other religions in Brazil are Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Jehovah’s Witness, Shinto, Rastafarian, Candomble, and Umbanda. However in Brazil 80 percent of the religious group are Roman Catholic. There are three major labor organization in Brazil. Central Única dos Trabalhadores(CUT) is the largest labor union, it is present in all Brazilian economic branches. Coordenação Nacional de Lutas was formed when people were unhappy with the direction CUT was taking. Força Sindical was founded in 1991 is opponent of CUT. Their goal was to lead Brazilian workers to modernity, promoting an open interchange with society.
Informal Trade Barriers
There are many barriers that are created by social and cultural factors. The economic class is determined by economic status and skin color. Even though, women make up over 40 percent of the workforce they are commonly found in lower paid jobs such as nursing, teaching and administrative support. In Brazil, Brazilian need to know who they are doing business with before they can work productive, they prefer face-to-face meeting when they are doing business. The person who represents the company is more important to the Brazilian than company itself because they judge the company off the individual they meet in person. However, since their cultural is built off of group cultural it is important to not embarrass the Brazilian. When having and meeting it is preferred that it is scheduled two to three weeks in advance. The meeting should be confirmed in writing it is not usual for a meeting to be cancel or modify at the last minute. Also, when introducing yourself in a meeting that is when business card exchanges it, is a good idea to have Portuguese on the reverse side. When you are negotiation, expect question about your company Brazilian like to do business with companies they know. Never rush the relationship building time, always allow the Brazilian colleagues to raise the business subject. For this reason, do not rush or appear impatient, because Brazilian likes to take their time negotiation. Always use local lawyers and accountant for negotiation, because Brazilian resent outside legal sources. However, in Brazil business in hierarchical, and Brazilians negotiate with people, not companies. Also, keep the same negotiation team from the start to beginning they do not like being introduce to new people during negotiation. There are not many market concerns in Brazil because their market is rapidly growing, but logistics pose a particular challenge, particular the lack of appropriate infrastructure to keep up with nearly a decade of economic expansion. There are some business issues, Brazil lacks a place of business concept, fulfilling the Sociedade Limitada requirements, and corporate tax filings. In Brazil, they have many employment practices for instead the employer have to provide the employee with health insurance, meal, and transportation. In Brazil under the Consolidação das Leis do Trabalho (CLT) it is require to give and worker a 30-day rest period every 12 months, also for and pregnant woman to take leave for 120 days. Also, it is a cultural way to make easy money by suing their employer.
Conclusion
Brazil is a great place to expand the W Hotel. Their cultural is so diverse to fit so many different culture. They are people whom family is the building block of life. Even when it comes to business family comes first in that as well. Long as we place great emphasis on family and friendship our business will go beyond our expectation.

Particular attention is paid to the importance of biases that are potentially present because the number of hours that are worked is endogenously chosen by the individual. A “naive” OLS regression, which indicates that a positive and statistically significant relationship exists between hours-worked and grade performance, highlights the potential importance of endogeneity bias in this context. Although a fixed effects estimator suggests that working an additional hour has an effect on grades which is quantitatively very close to zero, we suggest that there are likely to exist causes of endogeneity which are not addressed by the fixed effects estimator. Indeed, an instrumental variables approach, which takes advantage of unique institutional details of the work-study program at this school, indicates that working an additional hour has a negative and quantitatively large effect on grade performance at this school. Design: Semistructured interviews were conducted utilizing the Bolman—Deal Organizational Model. This model identifies four frames of an organization: symbolic, human resources, political, and structural. Sample: A purposive sample of nine nurses and one social worker was selected to participate in comprehensive interviews. Results: Data analysis identified two main themes. The second theme was the lack of political influence by the nurses to change the structure of the organization; hence, their skills could be more completely utilized.
