Industry Profile - Automobile Industry in India
The Indian Automotive Industry after de-licensing in July 1991 has grown at a spectacular rate on an average of 17% for last few years. The industry has attained a turnover of USD $35.8 billion, (INR 165,000 crores) and an investment of USD 10.9 billion.Automobile industry is currently contributing about 5% of the total GDP of India. (KPMG's India Automotive Study, 2013) More than 3.7 million automotive vehicles were produced in India in 2010 (an increase of 33.9%), making the country the second (after China) fastest growing automobile market in the world in that year. In 2010, India beat Thailand to become Asia's third largest exporter of passenger cars. India's passenger car and commercial vehicle manufacturing industry became the sixth largest in the world in 2011, with an annual production of more than 3.9 million units (in 2011).
