Beximco Pharma

... Executive Summary After growing at a robust twenty plus percentage in 2010 and 2011, Bangladesh Pharmaceutical Industry experienced a slower growth in 2012. The market grew by 11.9% in value terms to reach at Tk. 94 billion (IMS: Q4 2012 report). Despite a slower growth in the market, Beximco Pharma managed to achieve desired growth and successfully improve its market share. The country continued to maintain 6% plus GDP growth rate in 2012 as well. The alarming depreciation of Taka against US Dollar that continued throughout 2011 till January 2012 has finally been restrained. Thanks to higher inward remittances, lower payment for import settlements, and moderate growth in export. The local currency appreciated by around 2.5% against US Dollar in 2012. This was somewhat a relief to the predicted risk of significant reduction of gross margin that started brewing in 2011 in the wake of deteriorating value of local currency against US Dollar, high rate of domestic inflation and increase in the interest rates. The liquidity shortage that prevailed throughout 2011 also eased up to some extent in 2012. However, the political crisis that started by end of 2012 centering the upcoming election poses some degree of uncertainty in the overall economic environment of the country and is seen as an impediment to the growth of business. The first quarter of 2013 has already been affected for such instability in the political environment and continues to remain as a risk factor. ...

A descriptive research methodology was used for this study. A survey was administered to a selected sample from a specific population identified by the National School Board Association. The term ‘survey’ is commonly applied to a research methodology designed to collect data from a specific population, or a sample from that population, and typically utilizes a questionnaire or an interview as the survey instrument (Robson, 1993). Surveys are used to obtain data from individuals about themselves, and how they see the differences between Associate’s Degree and Bachelor’s Degree. Sample surveys are an important tool for collecting and analyzing information from selected individuals. They are widely accepted as a key tool for conducting and applying basic social science research methodology (Rossi, Wright, and Anderson, 1983). For these reasons, the researcher chose a descriptive research methodology and designed a questionnaire survey instrument to assess the perceptions of selected student of HRM student in Taguig......

... Beximco in severe cash crunch Beximco in severe cash crunch Claims Salman; BB help sought to reschedule its loans Sajjadur Rahman An extreme liquidity crisis has brought Beximco Ltd, the largest company of Beximco Group, on the verge of collapse. So says Salman F Rahman, vice chairman of the group, in a letter to the central bank governor early this month. “Beximco Ltd is facing an extreme liquidity crisis and is on the verge of closing down,” Salman said in the letter. He blamed the situation on two factors -- politically motivated credit restrictions on the group between 2001 and 2008 and repayment of Tk 800 crore in bank loans in the last three years. The group is beset by huge loans worth Tk 5,245 crore to seven banks and requires urgent restructure of its debt to survive, the letter said. Beximco Ltd owes Tk 4,315 crore to four state-owned banks -- Sonali, Janata, Agrani and Rupali -- and the rest Tk 930 crore to three private banks -- AB, Exim and National. The group also came up with a restructuring plan of all its debt. It wants to reschedule the loans up to 2026 with a moratorium period for 2.5 years. The group wants to pay only 10 percent interest against these loans, much lower than the market rates of 13-14 percent. Beximco Ltd (Bangladesh Export Import Company Limited) operates in multiple industrial areas, including textiles, real estate, hospitality, marine food, commodities trading, ICT, ceramics and aviation.
