CORPORATE PROFILE

The Bashundhara Group has started operation as a real estate venture known as "Bashundhara" under the aegis of the Group's first concern - the East West Property Development (Pvt) Ltd in 1987. This project turned out to be a very successful one and had helped foster the growth of trust and confidence of the urban people in "Bashundhara". Dhaka's burgeoning population, coupled with a conspicuously slow growth of housing led to the landmark success of Bashundhara.
Driven by the ramifications of this success, Bashundhara geared up to invest in new fields, including manufacturing and trading. More enterprises were established in the early 1990s, covering diverse activities involving the production of cement, paper and pulp, tissue paper, steel, LP Gas bottling and distribution, and a trading company, among others. The group experienced this tremendous growth in a span of less than 10 years. During this period, additional schemes on land development and real estate were launched and those projects focused more sharply on increasing responsiveness to client needs. The Group's first publicly-traded company, the Meghna Cement Mills Limited, is currently listed on the two Stock Exchanges of Bangladesh.
The Group now has over 20 major concerns located in different areas of the country. The multi-faceted shopping mall and recreation centre called the Bashundhara City has added glamour to the growth of the group. The Bashundhara City Development Ltd is one step ahead in the longstanding effort to strengthen links with the general people through the unique offering of commercial operations and recreation facilities under single roof.
East West Media Group Ltd is the mass media enterprise of the Bashundhara Group that was established in 2009. It now owns Bangla dailies – “The Kaler Kantho” and “The Bangladesh Pratidin”, English newspaper the “Daily Sun” and bilingual online portal “banglanews24.com.”. The media house is also planning to launch a FM radio and a television channel soon.
The Group has come a long way in reaching its goals by complimenting to client needs, learning real-time lessons from past projects, innovating and partnering its project implementation process. Through major investment undertakings in all key sectors, Bashundhara has meaningfully contributed to the country’s economic stability in financial and capital markets. Underlying all of the Group's activities are the common threads of change, flexibility, and fostering closer ties with the Government, the City Corporation and Bashundhara clients. Most of its projects have been success stories - this fact alone is enough to justify a sense of confidence in the Group's future.

...When you are in a group, you have more vast amounts of information due the diversity of the group. Your fellow group members may have a thought or idea you wouldn't think of on your own. Author Thomas Saaty (Saaty & Peniwati, 2008) states that when you have a group, there is no way to make everyone happy on every issue. This is true because everyone one in your group has different views and opinions. Because there are so many differences, conflicts are sure to arise. Whether it is simply just a difference in opinion, or a different way of thinking, it is imperative that you find a way to use those traits to your advantage when coming to a decision. It improves upon you problem solving skills because you have to work through conflicts in order to accomplish your goal. Communication is one of the most important aspects of group discussions. You cannot have a successful discussion without it. All members should share their ideas and theories. If not everyone participates, your group will be missing out on a lot of information that could be very beneficial. Communication skills can be improved because it encourages you to be an active listener. Active listening is listening with all of one's senses. It's listening with one's eyes as well as one's ears. Only 8% of communication is related to content—the rest pertains to body language and tone of voice (Kenneth H. Cohn, MD, MBA, FACS). When you have good communication skills, you are able to better understand......

In addition to all this lets take into consideration an online group where the parties have never met, have never spoken to each other then you may have a dilemma one your hand. This was not the case in this group even though we were placed together by the professor. We collaborated on blackboard under the team discussion board. It took a while to get everyone cooperation and to set up an appropriate meeting time as we all live in different time zones and all worked different hours. Once everyone agreed on a set time for the first brain storming session we were able to schedule a meeting on Skype. Our first meeting was set and we selected the topic and elected a group leader. This process was fairly easy because we all decided as a group to stick to a topic and an organization that we were interested in as a group and a topic that would afford us a wealth of information. Our topic (Leadership Development Program) and organization (American Express) was selected as I am an employee there and is currently enrolled in their leadership development program. When we got the class into groups to discuss the different languages that they can say ‘hello’ in, we considered whether or not there are people from different ethnic backgrounds who speak different languages. We ensured this worked by asking people in the class ‘who speaks a language other than English at home?’ the majority of the people in the class put up their hands therefore, we were given a guide where to place each individual so that each group has people from different backgrounds to ensure this to work. We decided to skip some parts of the book as it was an incredibly long book. As the book progresses, the words tend to get more complicated so we read a few pages and skipped a few so the class can grasp and idea of what the book is about by reading the important pages.
