“Love doesn’t erase the past. It makes the future different”- Gary Chapman Very few moments can define a man’s life and the path he takes. December 18, 2012 was one of those defining moments in my life. It was no longer just about me and my needs, yes I worried about my wife and family, but they could take care of themselves. The day my son was born had to be one of the most exciting and scariest days of my life. I didn’t know what to expect, how I was supposed to care for this little human being. A split second changed my life forever. Until that moment happened I had no idea what my life was going to be like having someone that depended on me for their every need.
When my wife told me she was pregnant, I was excited, but it just seemed surreal. I went to the doctor appointments, I was there for the ultrasounds. I was ecstatic the first time I felt him kick. My wife had complications so I was at the hospital every time the doctor sent her for observations. In the months leading up to my son’s birth I was there every step of the way, but I was just an observer. My wife was doing it all, nothing for me really changed.
The day started out like any other induction day for millions of other parents. We arrived at the hospital bright and early, my wife filled out some paperwork, the nurses hooked up her iv, started the Pitocin drip, and her labor began. The rest of the morning, afternoon and early afternoon was a lot of waiting. Nurses and the doctor came in and out checking on my wife and the baby. My wife’s mom and sister came from our hometown to be there with us so they came and went all day. They calmed nerves and also got on some nerves. I watched all day as my wife labored on like a champ.
A little after 11pm my wife’s doctor comes into the room with about 4 nurses telling us that our baby was…...

Where I

...“WHERE I’M FROM” PART 1 I am from dishes, From dish soap and rags. I am from the breeding of huskies. (small, pretty, and the puppy smell) I am from golden fields of corn, Whose rows hid me while playing hide and seek. I’m from home-made ice-cream and braces, from the ice-cream made in grandma’s kitchen. I’m from the sweat on the brow workers And the hand-me-down household, From say your prayers and manners first I’m from the forgiveness of sins With god’s wondrous grace And for each new day I have. I’m from southern skies and grandma’s sweet aromic kitchen, fresh baked bread and pudding pies. from my grandfather’s scars from Vietnam, my father’s bottled up memories of desert storm. In an old trunk of ancestral pictures lie, an historical bloodline to etch in my mind. I am from those faces in time- - recorded before I was- - just a little bud of a mighty oak. I cannot believe I made it this far. I have been in school for twelve years and this year is the last. Some students may say, “I cannot wait until graduation,” well I certainly can! Don’t get me wrong I am excited; therefore I want it to go by slow so I can enjoy this year. While in Appomattox Elementary School, I had a rough time with my reading, however I got held back. From then on, my family had helped me through reading and also helped me go into 4-H public speaking, I received 1st place! For the last three years I have done great ! I had a rough time in VA/US history last......

Where Oh Where Is the Rain??

...Where Oh Where is the Rain?? The drought of 2012 has grown to epic, never before seen size proportions, and is taking its toll on whole lot of people all over the country. Is their relief in sight? Not in the next few months, experts are saying. The drought of 2012 has caused many problems for our farmers, scorched millions of acres of forest and grasslands, and has President Obama scrambling to get relief to those in need. Just how big is this drought we are experiencing? According to the U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM), it’s the largest drought ever recorded in their 13 years they have been monitoring drought conditions. According to the USDM, 62.9 percent of the contiguous U.S. was experiencing moderate to exceptional drought at the end of July. This is an increase of about 6.9 percent compared to the end of June. The maximum value of 63.9 percent reached on July 24, 2012 is the current record holding mark in the 13 year history of the USDM. The percent area of the country in the worst drought categories (extreme to exceptional drought) doubled, from 10 percent last month to 22 percent this month. The other major drought monitoring index is the Palmer Drought Severity Index. This index has been tracking drought conditions for all of the 20th century, much longer than the USDM. The Palmer Drought Severity Index states that about 57 percent of the contiguous U.S. was experiencing moderate-to-extreme drought. The last time drought was this extensive was way back in......

Three Rewards and Three Challenges

...Is the career you chose a job or is it your work? I feel a job is just something you go to everyday, but work is something you do that will make a difference in someone's life. I'm hoping that it won't just make a difference in my life, but that of a child's life too. This is the reason I choose this career path in becoming a teacher. “What are three rewards and three challenges that you will face as a teacher?” I'll be talking about these challenges and rewards in the next few pages, on how I feel teaching make a major impact on not only my life, but hopefully the lives of thousands of children to come. At the end of the day I'm hoping to be that one teacher that my students will remember forever. What greater gift could I be given than to make a positive impact in a child's life and future? So, with that said let me begin with the rewards! The first one that comes to mind is the achievements of my students, in more detail student discoveries and the exciting new things they will learn through me teaching in my classroom. In doing so, I can show them how to untangle things they are struggling with, challenges they face, or problems that might occur; by showing them a different light. The smile that comes across a child’s face symbolizing that they understand or I've got it! Is one of the best feelings I feel, a teacher could have. This would show to me that I'm doing my job well and I helped a child cover new exciting things! In hopes that they would not be......

Where There Is a Way

...Where there is a will , there is a way `If there's a will, there's a way' is one motto I would like to make my own. The saying means that if anyone was determined enough to get something done, that person would always find a way to do it. . In other words nothing is impossible in this world provided it is backed by a strong will, constant efforts and unshakable faith. I believe that determination is the fighting spirit of a person. Without determination, a person would tend to give up too easily in getting what she or he wants. Man is different from other living beings. His desires are innumerable and ever increasing. He undertakes a number of activities in order to satisfy his desires. But in our practical life we see that all our desires are not fulfilled . A close examination will reveal that we did not make sustained efforts to fulfil those wishes .If a student is lack of determination for his examination, he cannot get the higher education .This motto is also true for the students .They say that matriculation exam is not easy at all .But the reason why some students fail in the examination is not that the examinations are difficult to pass. In fact they do not possess the determination and work hard for their objectives. A student can get the distinctions if he has a strong desire to do so. And I also have a constant desire for my coming matriculation exam. I study my lessons and homework regularly, attend my classes punctually and do the exercises in my free-time .I......

...entering information using the keypad (known as input device). One of the most commonly used LCD module is the 16x2 displays that can display 2 lines of 16 characters each. Fortunately, a very popular standard from Hitachi exists that allows the users to communicate with the vast majority of LCDs regardless of the manufacturer. The standard requires 3 control lines as well as either 4 or 8 data lines. The user may select whether the LCD module is to operate with a 4-bit data bus or an 8-bit data bus. If a 4-bit data bus is used, the LCD module will require a total of 7-lines (3 control lines plus the 4 data lines). If an 8-bit data bus is used, the LCD module will require a total of 11-lines (3 control lines plus the 8 data lines). The three control lines are referred to as RS, E and R/~W. The RS line is the “Register Select” line. When RS is low (Logic ‘0’), the data on the data bus is to be treated as a control word (such as clear display, position cursor, etc.). When RS is high (Logic ‘1’), the data on the data bus is text data that should be displayed on the LCD. The E line is the “Enable” line. To send data to the LCD module, your program should first set ‘E’ high (Logic ‘1’) and set the other two control lines and put the data on the data bus. When everything is completed or ready, bring ‘E’ low (Logic ‘0’). The 1-0 transition will latch the data on the data bus into the LCD. The R/~W line is the “Read/Write” line. When R/~W is low (Logic ‘0’), the......

Three Shifts, Three Supervisors

...Week Two Case Studies Case 7.1 Three Shifts, Three Supervisors (Northouse) 1. Based on the principles of path-goal theory, describe why Art and Bob appear to be less effective than Carol? The path-goal theory focuses on motivating followers to achieve goals. It suggests that if followers believe there will be positive outcomes in their efforts, they will be highly motivated to do their work. Leaders, in this theory, use a style that compliments the follower’s needs in order to motivate them. Take the following situation as an example. I am newly hired as a sales manager and the morale in the department is extremely low. A few months ago the department’s profit in sales had been at the highest in decades. Multiple sales associates exceeded their quota, month after month, with no recognition such as bonuses or awards. The sales associates feel no reason to continue exceeding their quota because there are no positive outcomes from it. In the path-goal theory, I would create a recognition program as the incoming manager and motivate people to reach and exceed their goals. Moreover, I would guide them to understand their job and encourage that they are doing good work. Based on the principles of the path-goal theory, Carol appears to be more effective than Art and Bob. As a leader, she possesses behaviors that result in motivated followers. Carol shows directive leadership by ensuring that her group understands what needs to be done and how to do it. She has...

...family plan for parents, children, & friends. This creates a large audience and produces more sales. * Segment marketed- Retirement planning is a combination of financial planning, planning for health and engagement in various activities. So the segments of retirement planning are: 1. financial planning, 2. planning for health, and 3. engagement in other activities. Another example of segment marketing is a beauty company such as Mac. They will send emails and put print advertisements in the glossy magazines for anti-wrinkle creams that talk to the 40+ crowd. You would segment your email list by age and send everyone over 40 an ad for these products. You would put the ad for these products in Redbook, More, Ladies' Home Journal, where the over 40 crowd are the majority of the readership. On the other hand, you would send your younger demographic an ad for lip gloss with a young beautiful star on the ad. * Niche marketed – An example of a company that is niche marketed is Rolex. They will likely be selling to predominantly wealthy people instead of a high amount of the population. Coach is also niche marketed. Most women love a nice handbag however most can’t afford to purchase coach bags frequently. * Locally marketed- An example of something that is locally marketed is snowsuits for the colder states. Most likely people that live in cold areas that get tons of snow will want to purchase a snow suit in relation to the hotter states like Texas. Another example...

Three Shifts, Three Supervisors

...Three Shifts, Three Supervisors Michelle Minchew LeTourneau University In partial fulfillment of the requirements for: MGMT 3713 – Management and Leadership Barry Fontaine October 11, 2015 Three Shifts, Three Supervisors An effective organization is one capable of implementing its strategy in a manner which satisfies the needs of its multiple stakeholders-customers, shareholders, and employees. A strategy is implemented effectively when people and groups in the organization work in a motivated, skilled, and coordinated manner on the appropriate tasks (Beer, 1994). This theory, or idea, coincides with the path-goal theory which is about how leaders motivate followers to accomplish designated goals (Northouse, 2016). Three Shifts, Three Supervisors case study 6.1 depicts the effectiveness of an organization through four different leadership styles. Brako is a small manufacturing company that entails three different shifts which hold three different job functions. The first shift, supervised by Art, is in charge of the production line and packaging. This job is noted as being monotonous with set rules and standards that require little to no independent decision making. According to path-goal theory, Arts leadership behavior should be constructed around the Supportive style; providing what is missing by nurturing followers when they are engaged in tasks that are repetitive and unchallenging (Northouse, 2016, p.121). The second shift, led by Bob, job scope......

Where Is the Message

... oooo child things'll get brighter. Although most of the song is about doing better, it also gives a message to men to protect and love the women of the world instead of disrespecting them. Tupac also had a very strong verse directed against the government policy, “They got money for wars but can’t feed the poor”. This verse is what most poets do not stress enough, the faults in government.             Another song that exposes the governments faults is Eminem’s “Mosh” released eleven years after “Keep your head up”. This song is being straightforward the message he wanted the listeners to understand. The beginning of the song starts off with children reading the pledge of allegiance, initiating the thought of government when listening. A verse where Eminem tells his listeners that he wants to show them the corrupt ways of the government is “I spit it once, refuel, re-energize, and rewind, I give sight to the blind, my insight through the mind”. He later on says “I say to fight; you take it as I'mma whip someone's ass” which is showing that he wants people not to literally fight. He means to fight the system, not person to person. The following verse proves this when he says “If you don't understand, don't even bother to ask,” He wants all who listen to him and get the song’s meaning to fight for their rights. In Tan’s “Mosh Analysis”; “Carry on, give me hope, give me strength, Come with me and I won't steer you wrong, Put your faith and your trust as I guide us through the......

...us today because there have been incidents where there have been suicides. “Homicide is not a disease, but it is a public health condition whose primary cause is the possession of guns” (Newton 103). There are still murders today committed with guns and that is why this problem still affects us today. Also, the 2nd amendment says that people have the right to bear arms and protect themselves. There are many actions that can be taken to remedy this problem. For, one we can engage today’s youth by engaging them in gun safety programs. This way the kids will know about guns and what will happen to them if they abuse them. Also, by legalizing some guns that are illegal the demand for them will go down and illegal gun sale will drop. But if those illegal guns become legal then there should be longer waiting periods and more thorough background checks. We can start by having petitions and have people sign them so that they will be sent to the NRA. This will tell them that we are serious about this and want immediate action. Also, there should be more gun awareness programs to educate people. “One NRA member expressed his support for longer background checks and mandatory training for gun buyers” (Newton 101). Gun safety should be a required class in the junior high to high school level. Doing all this will help get rid of gun control. One thing is for sure our future looks pretty good if gun control is gone. Just try to imagine a place where the criminals and murderers are afraid......
