Accessibility Theory

...Accessibility Theory Accessibility Theory is a model of attitude and behavior of relations. In the Accessibility Theory attitudes will predict behavior if they can be activated from memory at a time of decision. In order for this to transpire, the attitude must come spontaneously to mind in a memory. Second, the attitude must influence perceptions of an issue or person serving as a “filter” through which the object is viewed. (Fazio & Roskos –Ewoldsen, 1994 P. 85) Accessibility Theory complements the Reasoned Action Theory and the Theory of Planned Behavior approach because people carefully consider the consequence of behaving in a particular manner and weigh out the pros and cons of situation. When all else fails the decision is based more on spontaneity, channeling a thought or memory. The decisions however can also be based on how accessible attitudes are and how likely objects, good or bad can capture the attention of a person. Research supports these propositions (Krays, 1995) because studies found that individuals who were in touch with favorable attitudes toward a certain topic or product were more inclined to select or choose those with less accessible attitudes. Attitudes play a very important role because they range from strong attitudes to weak attitudes. When a person has a strong attitude toward something most likely the persons mind is made up and set in his or her ways. Vice versa with a weaker attitude which is more susceptible to change....

...Policy Issues and the Police AJS/582 February 14, 2012 Abstract Community policing is a new idea that has been introduced to law enforcement. The program is federally funded and was created with the intentions of providing citizens the opportunity to work collectively along side with the police to diminish fear and crimes within communities. By examining police departments within the Unites States which has implemented community policing programs, a determination of whether there has been a positive or negative change can be concluded. Community policing, when implemented and organized properly is the ideal situation for police departments and the communities to build an alliance against crime. Community Policing Foot patrol or walking the beat are the many terms used to represent community policing. This community relationship has been a subject of discussion and research since the early 1900’s and still is today (Trojanowicz ,1986). Community policing was established with the idea of local law enforcement and the community working collectively, focusing on reducing and eventually preventing crime and social disorder. The strategy is to achieve a more valuable and proficient crime control, reduce terror of crime and improve quality of life. Community policing also helps the police gain the trust and cooperation of the community by having a strong presence in the area.  Most......

Usability Assignment on Web Accessibility

...Usability Assignment on Web Accessibility Wendell Robinson Capella University Web Accessibility Initiative's Accessible Rich Internet Applications (WAI-ARIA) need to be the concern of all web developer. Many people like myself can’t imagine their life without the internet it is where we get our world and local news, email, entertainment, etc. If a developer makes his website to be more accessible he ensure that people with disabilities can access his website just everyone else. The people who are visually impaired could access their content with the help of a “screen reader”. Screen reader applications read the printed text out loud, which helps blind people use computers and receive access to a text content of any kind. The blind can just open up a browser and listen to a screen-reader The physically impaired people can get the access to online content with the help of their computer using technologies that were designed to adapt the computer interface to their disabilities. People who are hard of hearing have always had the opportunity to read online content, however when it comes to video materials, they can read typed versions of important speeches or watch multimedia content with subtitles. One reason accessibility is important is that it can increase your audience. Without accessibility there is bound to be people in your audience who are not able to see, hear or simply pick up the mouse to navigate your website. This could mean loss of profit......

...POLICY PAPER: EUROPEAN STANDARIZATION POLICY Kristiana Elvis Boyadzhieva 20118703 MBA 546: European Union Matthias C. Suthe Policy Paper 1, February 2014 Each student will select one aspect of EU policy and discuss how it affects different industries, companies, and countries. The paper will involve both providing a general summary of the policy area as well as advising on specific policy changes that might be undertaken and/or are currently under discussion in that area. The paper should present and reflect on the positions of the EU, Member States, Corporate interests, and Citizen Interests. There is probably no area in Europe, which is not be heavily affected by the EU standardization policy. Whether on the European, national, corporate or citizen level – the omnipresence and importance of the EU standardization policy is undisputed and is comparable maybe just with the influence of the EURO. Therefore it is not suprising that EU nations, as well as industries and companies are trying to take an influence on the standardization process, to assure and strengthen their competitiveness and future. ...Organizational policies are used to achieve uniformity, economics, public relations, benefits and other objectives that many be unrelated to recruiting. At time, policies can be a source of constraints. Policies that may affect recruitment are highlighted below. Compensation policies: pay policies are a common constraints faced by recruiters, Organizations with HR departments usually establish pay ranges for different jobs to ensure equitable wages and salaries. Recruiters seldom have the authority to exceed the stated pay ranges. Of course, pay ranges must be special cases such as international openings. Applying domestic compensation rates overseas often entails overpaying or underpaying foreign nationals compared with what they would normally earn. At the same time, employees which are reassigned overseas often need and expect an increase to handle extra living expenses. Employment status policies: some companies have policies on hiring part-time and temporary employees. Although there is growing interest in hiring these types of workers, policies can cause recruiters to reject all but those seeking full-time work. Limitations on part-time and temporary employees reduce the pool of potential applicants, especially since this segment of the workforce is a fast-growing one. In fact, a study of 484 firms found a one-third in cease in the use of part-timers. policies that discriminate against any refundable group should be reviewed, when those groups are protected under......

Accessibility of Benefits to Veterans

...Accessibility of Educational Financial Aid to Veterans Miramar College Table of Contents Abstract 2 Introduction 3 Literature Review 4 Veterans’ knowledge about financial aid benefits 4 TAP program 4 Methods 5 Results 6 Discussion 8 Conclusion 10 References 11 Abstract Accessing hard-earned educational benefits is a common option for veterans that are newly separating from their active duty military service. While the GI Bill is a widely known financial aid option for veterans, there are many other financial opportunities that veteran students can use in order to pay for college and have a living allowance. However, a significant proportion of veterans is not aware of these options. The goal of this study was to support the claim that veterans need to be better educated about financial aid options for their education. Accessibility of Educational Financial Aid to Veterans Introduction Navigating financial aid in universities is a complicated process for anyone who is first introduced to the environment and for those who are returning back to school after taking a short break or after several years. There are numerous requirements and procedures before one can secure a form of financial aid to pay for his/her tuition and possibly living expenses. There are various types of aid available to students, depending on their financial situation, family status, tax filing status, income, number of units in school, and so on. Further, the process...

... Theories of Crime Causation October 31, 2011 Abstract In this paper you will read about three policies that I chose and The Diversion Program. You will also read about the Prison rehabilitation program as well as confinement. The three policies that I chose to write about is: Diversion Programs (drug, court, etc.), the second policy that I picked is Prison Rehabilitation Programs and the last is the Death Penalty. The Diversion Program is a good thing. It was established in 1996 by Bynum and Thompson. This is very interesting because if you look at it one way it helps the court out by them taking care of the not so bad kids, without court but maybe the kids need a good scare, by putting them thru the courts. Regardless the Division Program is a good thing. In 1967 presidents’ commission on law enforcement and the administration of justice had alternative programs developed for juvenile offenders within local communities. The theories that would fit into this policy would be social disorganization theory, windows theory, and Differential association theory. On any given day, as far as arrest go minority youth outweigh Caucasian kids. (Krisberg & Austin, 1993). In 1985 52% of juveniles were incarcerated, 1989 was 60% and 1995 it was 65%, this......

Web Accessibility Standards

...Web Accessibility Standards University of Phoenix WEB434 November 11, 2011 Accessibility Standards have a Purpose The typical user of websites can see, hear, and type while navigating the site. Accessibility standards are aimed at bringing the experience of a website that may not have the same abilities in viewing, typing, and navigating a site. The Internet, information, and services should be available to everyone regardless of how an individual accesses web content. “The Web is fundamentally designed to work for all people, whatever their hardware, software, language, culture, location, or physical or mental ability” (Accessibility - W3C). When design to a website achieves all that the web can offer to those with disabilities then accessibility standards goals have been met. Why we have Standards The Internet should be accessible to everyone and website development must consider the different kinds of access needed. The W3C “Introduction to Web Accessibility” describes accessibility scope as: “Web accessibility encompasses all disabilities that affect access to the Web, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, and neurological disabilities” (Introduction to Web Accessibility). Even those that aren’t classified as individuals with disabilities can benefit by these standards. The functionality of a site designed to accommodate the disabled can also help those who have a temporary injury or even those who are aging and losing sight, hearing, and......

...THE CASE OF THE PRICING PREDICAMENT Cost-cutting customers. Hungry Foreign rivals. Should Standard Machine Lowerits bid? By MARY KARR As soon a Scott Palmer’s secretary told him that Joanne Braker form Occidental Aerospace was on the phone, he knew he was in for a long day. Inheriting the Occidental account had helped him earn top sales commissions last year, his first at Standard Machine Corporation. But a month ago, Joanne informed Scott of the purchasing department’s new, more aggressive competitive bid policy, and said it would apply to the acquisition of a computerized milling machine for Occidental’s new training center. Scott nevertheless submitted his $429,000 proposal with great confidence and even boasted to his regional sales manager that the deal was “in the bag”. After two weeks of unreturned phone calls, however, Scott got the feeling his confidence had been sorely misplaced. “Hi, Joanne, Long time, no hear. What’s up?” Joanne got right to the point. “Scott, I’ve got a $22,000 problem you can solve”. “What do you mean?” “You know we have to look hard at a number of different vendors on purchases of this size. And your bid is well above the competition’s. Kakuchi came in under $390,000, and Akita Limited at a little over 400K”. She waited, and Scott waited back, not wanting to show his anxiousness. “The way I count it,” she finally continued, “You’re $22,000 too high, and I just can’t sell that here”. “Well, Joanne,......
